I was there on 27th November 2009. It was a complete show, and quite unforgettable. But I missed her laughs after the Hingegeben. I was blessed of see the greatest Zerbinetta live. Truly blessed. Thank you very much for sharing this!!!!!
OMG i saw her live that day!! She was unbelievable and the audience just loved her. The moment she stepped in they applauded at a movement of her hand even before she emitted a sound. She is an inspiration! Thank you Edita!!!
Yes. I was there. Unfortunately she made several mistakes. Its was the first time I've heard a non perfect performance from here... Pity, just a year before she was still outstanding in the role... This year, at anniversary, she got this hat and umbrella from the director as a souvenir... She stays one of the best Zerbinettas ever.
She doesnt sound as though she was in good vocal health or maybe it was just pure nerves. Singers normally continue singing their roles until one day they just cant manage it. When one knows how she used to sing it (and I heard her do it many times - also in this production) then one is prone to say she should not have gone on stage that night - but I guess she had to experience that sensation that it is time to say good bye - not an easy thing, especially when as she put it herself: "It is easier to sing Zerbinetta than to make Powidl Tascherl"
MisterSoprano Correct! It was as I said right at the begining either nerves or some physical condition - not uncommon for women at that age! It is unfortunate that this was recorded :(
That will stay a mystery for me : she was a living legend and the most impressing singer i have heard live, many times. The voice was very long lasting till round about 2007. But she wanted to sing her old repertory 12 more years with results like here. It was a mystery.
She only sang too laud sometimes and didn't hold the high notes, why must everything been perfect when so much singers today only can do it with no voice at all and nobody seems to hear, just terrible loudness!!!!!!
To sing like this, for such a long time, is the stuff legends are made of.
Farewell Edita Gruberova I'll forever have a crush on you
Actually she didn't sing like this for a long time. Most of her career she sang a lot better!
War am 27. November 2009 dort!!!
Hingegeben, war ich STUMM!!!!!

@@arniekevinvalera8166 Yes, I were. Thank God my friends and I decided go to Vienna instead of Athens.

It is impossible to keep this level up. She cannot stay perfect forever. Many 20 year olds couldn't keep up.
*ALLES GUTE ZUM GEBURTSTAG EDITA GRUBEROVA!!!!!!!!*

This was her last performance of Zerbinetta. She told us she is not gonna sing it any more and she didnt.
MisterSoprano
I know - when one hears this it is clear why she wasnt going to sing it any more ;)
Sure, but she was in much better condition years after this performance, just other roles.
