I was 15 at that time, it was - next to Gruberová the great Munich time with performances like Bohème with Kleiber/Freni/Pavarotti or Traviata with Kleiber/Cotrubas/Shicoff/Cappucilli or Don Carli with Freni/Baltsa/Carreras/Bruson/Raimondi plus all those Sawallisch performances with the likes of Margaret Price, Julia Varady, Lucia Popp, Franzisco Araiza, Kurt Moll, Bernd Weikl etc. etc. - an extreme density of once-in- a- lifetime experiences... what I admire most about Gruberová is her extreme flexibility - her vocal cords were the most elastic bands of them all - no note too high to not spin a trill or a perfect messa di voce - in this she will probably be unsurpassed... and (not meant as criticism at all, also as pure admiration: In the first Aria (Giunia / Mozart) at 7'44 she has a split second where her memory betrays her and she starts repeating the first (longer) version of the phrase from earlier-on. She notices it right away, gets back into track... and instead of being confused she then sings the two longest coloratura lines in a sequel: 7'46-8'00 and 8'01-08'11 as if nothing had happenend before - a demonstration of the most superior artistry! So glad to have experienced this live, so glad I had my beloved grandmother with me that day! Bliss!!!

Estuvo al 100% pasados los 55 años, cantando Roberto, Sonambula, Lucrezia Borgia, Lucía, Puritanis, Maria stuarda, Beatrice di tenda,hasta zerbineta etc etc un repertorio en que es la verdadera Reina!!! Una cantante de otra dimensión vocal!

Glorious coloratura recital from a period when the volume, ease, execution were united. That said this voice seemed born ready. The Zerbinetta original key composition is a bit long and quite rambling but a fascinating look into the past and displayed lunghi held F6 from Edita. Her costume and hair are very pedestrian considering the stature of her extraordinary lyric coloratura career. Especially as this the early 1980’s when every star was over the top. Her humble hardworking Capricorn personality is a testament to her careful lasting power. And it went on for another 30 years ... with a career that had at the time of this performance 16 years already .... ....46 years... for a coloratura. Extraordinary.
Cantar así, TODO en un sólo recital, en una noche, es poco menos que para un registro Guiness. Canta con una facilidad, que ningún cantante prácticamente ha hecho. Vi cientos de videos, óperas, recitales........y parece que está cantando una canción de cuna a sus hijos antes de dormir.❤😅 Es de verdad una mujer artista que brilla con su canto. Aquí no es cuestión desde qué edad y hasta qué edad. Lo ha hecho y punto. Es como hablar de un deportista. Se es deportista en la época que se ha sido en la plenitud (a nadie le importa cómo jugará Đjoković a los 70 o saltará Isinbayeva a los 80..... etcétera). Lo que ella hace (porque por más que se haya ido al cielo, su arte quedó, porque el arte no desaparece jamás) es de una formidable capacidad intelectual, artística, vocal, belleza, interpretación, musicalidad, humanidad o deidad....... TODO se ve en ella AL SERVICIO REAL, CONCRETO del disfrute propio y del escucha. Ello es patente a cada instante. Su capacidad de superación constante se ve en el modo en el que ella maneja sus cuerdas vocales a lo largo de toda su extensión. Es como hacer malabares, no por ellos mismos, jamás, sino al servicio de superación de las propias posibilidades y al donarse para el disfrute del público. Ela multiplica su talento recibido honrándolo en cada sonido, en cada nota, en cada palabra. Eso es Edita. Única. Entrega total. No brilla por su coloratura. Brilla porque esa coloratura es disfrutada por medio de un trabajo minucioso, personal y buscado. No todo es don. Ella no se quedó con lo que recibió. Lo multiplicó en cada instante musical cantado de toda su vida. (Y eso que no fué ni diva, ni muy mimada, ni famosa, ni aceptada, ni marketinera, a veces tampoco respetada como debiera, ni que hablar si se refiere uno o compara a otras u otros de fama indefinida). Madame Gruberova est sans conteste une coloratura et une artiste au talent incomparable et incontestable 🪦 💙🤍❤️
Beaucoup ont voulu la copier , elle restera inimitable ! Elle excella dans les rôles de bel canto donizettien tel que Anna Bolena que j’avais eu la chance de voir à l’Opernhaus de Zurich ! Sublime ! Grande tristesse à l’annoncer de sa disparition si peu de temps après sa retraite.
