An amazing display of Gruberova's art. She so enjoys singing! She said she didn't suffer from stage fright. Can you imagine singing this difficult piece in front of an audience??
There will never be a better singer for this role? Probably not. Edita owns this role? I believe she does. She is this character? No, that's just a cliché.
An amazing Zerbinetta! And I've never been a Gruberova fan, AT ALL! BUT, I have to be honest and agree that this is one of the best Zerbinetta's I've heard.
I will never get enough of 10:34 as she hits the D5 in pp, goes to full forte and puts a trill on top of it, all whilst smiling and applying powder on her face like absolutely nothing was happening. Show me any of the current soprano "stars" who can do it.
Torsten Herbrich Shewas fantastic in her youth. Then she sang those ugly Norma's, Lucia's. Her Zerbinetta is the standard. Why did she sang when she sounded like a crow in the 2000's. She is by far the best Zerbinetta I've ever heard. Better than Beverly. She should have quit when she was one of the three best coloraturas. Never a threat to Joan in any way. But maybe better than Beverly sometimes. I love her Zerbinetta. This is the very best I've ever heard. She is a light coloratura, not a norma or a lucia. When she sings in her prime in what she does best, no light coloratura can touch her. I repeat, I have never heard a better Zerbinetta in my life. I think she even sings the harder version with the F#. This is a wow.
+Vette gaddia Ok, I agree with the Norma comment, but not the Lucia one... Vetta, I know you are a fanatic of Sutherland... but Lucia is sadly originally written for a light colortura soprano... +Polo Apple, Dessay has no voice for Zerbinetta, she sounds to laser like and strained!
It's not every coloratura soprano who sings Zerbinetta that can skillfully toss up those notes which are supposed to be the highest notes in operatic repertoire - WHILE POWDERING HERSELF WITH HER MIRROR MAKE UP KIT LOL Brava Edita
Intrepretazione pazzesca, meravigliosa... Brava Edita!
Magnificent. At her prime she was marvellous. Then too soon she became the caricature of a soprano, hard to listen to and watch performing. Sumi Jo also sang this area with highest mastery.
Polio, smallpox just a couple of examples of vaccines that saved many millions. My mother had pollie before the vaccine all her classmates ended up dead or paraliesed she was lucky
I presume you never heard her on stage then. I did (in fact, in 1978) at the Vienna State Opera, and it was the absolute highlight of my opera listening experience.
Ruhe in Frieden
Bohm said "I wish Richard could heard this".
Now he can! Rest in peace, Madame Gruberova.
I don't think there is any opera singing in the grave.

So who’s your choice? Pray tell.
@@KBGWorld29 I guess that should be pretty cleat: Edita! But no one, not even she, "is" the character. That's a cliché. :-)
Rest in Paradise, Edita
How could you NOT fall in love with her after watching this...?

Gruberova and Janovitz, two of the best singers ever
Gruberovas Zerbinetta was an absolute miracle, and I suspect Richard Strauss must have been chuckling from above
An immortal performance!
This aria is another piece she owned. Amazing 🤩
Wonderful opera... amazing singing... and my FAVORITE Strauss character... Zerbinetta!!!
Greetings from Naxos!
Edita Gruberova...Magistral.
R.I.P.
Farewell to the mastress of belcanto... 😪😓🙏💛💛💛💛
Also the mastress of Mozart
Hübsch gepredigt!

What a legend!
@Manoli Stavrinakis The range of this aria goes from C4 to E6 (this 1916 version)
The 1912 version (that killer version!) goes from B3 to F#6
Thanks, I figured it out later but still appreciate your response.
:)
Cristofer Muñoz Chacano I've never heard this sung better. And I'm not even a fan of Gruberova.
Vette gaddia Same here. And wonderfully acted as well.
Verneige mich.
Edita es perfección

Ich habe nur 3 Gedenken. 1) brava! 2) brava!!! 3) bravissima!!!

+Vette gaddia did you listen to Dessays version (the 90s version of course)? It is just as amazing as this.
+Vette gaddia you Sound more like a crow, but not out of 2000

Maravillosa

Sublime
RIP
just imagine if the composers heard her sings there music what would they think omg omg omg
I think Toni Stricker was the only composer to experience that. He must have felt privileged. Edita never sang much contemporary music.
9:50 effortless

Yes, Charlie. We have some classy broads.
This is my grandmother
Is she really your grandmother?
@@artdanks no. I reckon Edita didn't marry.
@@arniekevinvalera8166 Wikipedia shows you are wrong.
@@richardhartley5211 okay thanks for telling me. :)
@@arniekevinvalera8166 You don't have to be married to have children, you know. But yes, she DID marry. Twice actually.
Beverly Sills did not only dream about it :-)
She look like Mary Poppins.
She is definitely miming the aria to a prerecorded performance. Pity. I would like to have seen and watched her doing the REAL THING!
I saw and heard her at the Met doing this.
SO make your brain work a little and find the same life performance from Barcelona, you get what you wanted! ua-cam.com/video/akWeJlz0CM0/v-deo.html

Dear, You should reallly try to try to play a particule of such a caricature, just once time, just for 10 seconds ;)
Wer hat da negativ abgestimmt?
Ich muß ursus1302 recht geben!
Da kommt so schnell KEINE ran!!!
PS: Hingegeben war ich STUMM!
Natalie Dessay performed it as good!
No way.
Absolutely not. Edita owns this role. She brings it to life
She was good but nothing compares to this.
Did they vaccinate her too?? Is that why my idol is dead??
Of course. If there were no vaccines nobody in the world would have died since 2021.
Polio, smallpox just a couple of examples of vaccines that saved many millions. My mother had pollie before the vaccine all her classmates ended up dead or paraliesed she was lucky
She actually died from an injury from falling

Sounds 'prett'y' through a mic, though pure acoustics is another thing with a squeaky voice like that...

You obviously have no clue what you’re talking about 😂
