I watched all your videos on the Acer aspire 5 slim for almost a week. After selling my MacBook I bought this laptop yesterday on amazon! Anxiously waiting now so I can upgrade it as well, upgrading ram and ssd will boost a great deal of performance. That’s what consumers need to know, sometimes out the box is just not enough I thought it was a great deal plus the ability to add multiple options of ssd and Ram! 😁👍🏻
I concur with your appraisal of the Aspire Ryzen 3 laptop. I bought two of them at the lower price point last year. In both units, I upgraded the NVME drive to Intel 660p 512GB units. Also upgraded the RAM to 16 gigs in both machines and added 1 TB SSD's to each one. It was the fact that I could upgrade these units that sold me. Build quality is excellent. Especially the power port. It is separate from the motherboard and therefore plugging and unplugging the power connector will not fatigue and ruin the MOBO. One machine is dedicated to Windows 10 and the other is dedicated to Ubuntu 20.04. That one originally was Ubuntu 18.04 last year. Everything works under Ubuntu including the built in webcam. As for connectivity, I use the Bluetooth function for mouse and audio and both units have behaved flawlessly. I'm an old man and not a fan of trackpads. Your review of these laptops were pivotal in my buying them, using your links. I am very happy with them and am glad to see Acer recognizes how good they are and continues to make them. Thank you for the one year follow up.
I have commented on your past video about the Aspire 5 and after 4 months of use, I am still happy with my purchase. I switched out the SSD with a 512 GB drive and I added 4 more GB of RAM. I am making a laptop-desktop setup by adding an external mechanical keyboard, adding a wireless mouse, adding a cooling pad, adding a 1080p HD webcam, and connecting an external monitor. Within the span of a few months, I have managed to create an amazing setup for gaming, work, and perusing the internet. I intend to upgrade the m.2 SSD to 1 TB, upgrade the RAM to 16 GB, get a gaming mouse, and get a better monitor in the future. Thanks a bunch for the reviews.
Watched all your videos, and when you answered my question about the Bluetooth, I went ahead and got one for $479.99 Win10 Home/128GB Nvme/500GB hdd/8GB RAM and I bought another 8GB's RAM to go with it. I would've bought the cheaper $310 and the upgraded everything for cheaper than the $479.99 but it's being shipped to Jamaica lol. Had to keep the shipping costs down. Thanks a lot for your reviews!

Just ordered mine,been watching you for a couple months on thsi acer product and the asus product.Ive watched the acer vs asus at least twice.Alot of people have been saying that the screen,mouse pad have been giving problems and I'm getting paranoid now,but watching thsi 1 year review lessens my paranoia

@@TheNolanH Nolan I just got my acer aspire 5 a515 43 R19L (The one he is using in the video) I was running roblox at 6 graphics with other applications in the backround (Discord Steam Spotify) and I didn’t receive any frame drops the gameplay was steady. And when speaking of more demanding roblox games that have good graphics like Grand piece or Anime battle arena the laptop runs nice.

I've had this laptop for a while and I'm enjoying the fact that I can play bo2 and mw3 without hackers(plutonium) which is a bonus for me. The ps2 emulator(pcsx2) runs very well. However for about 60 bucks you can order a 16gb ram stick that will help you play the big boy games at a much faster speed. And make sure you buy a cooling pad (20-35 bucks)so your laptop doesn't overheat
When you upgraded it, did you take precautions of anti static/grounding yourself and removing the battery prior to inserting the ram or not? I'm going to upgrade mine but not sure if these measures are necessary or not.
@@tiredovhell did you fry yours? i've been building my own pcs for over 20 years now.. i usually try to touch an unpainted part of the case before touching any circuit boards but i'm not really consistent with it. don't think i've fried anything just by handling and installing things (plugging in the wrong power adapter is a different story) but the thing is, the damage can be subtle and you don't always notice right away or at all with damage from static electricity.

Btw I suggestion I have is to buy a 4gb ram stick instead of 12 gb of ram, because when you put 4gb of ram with 8 gb of ram, it shows as 12 gb, but it doesn't actually use dual channel ram. You are losing a lot of performance if you don't use dual channel ram, especially because this laptop uses an integrated gpu
@@calmekira2412 it would depend, because 4 gb and 8 gb wouldn't match up very well. It would run dual channel memory in only 4 gb, but if you have 2 4 gb sticks, then you will have 8 gb of dual channel. Of course, the 4 plus 8 gb would have a total of 12, but only 4 gb is in dual channel.

Hi, Great Review. I have the same laptop with i5 10th Gen, 8 GB RAM with SSD. My laptop keeps getting hot even at idle state. In HWMonitor, after 5 minutes, I can see core temperature at around 53°C. Let me know if you had face any such issue.

you get alot of performance for the price, now if your a hardcore gamer I wouldn't look at this. but it will play some modern games, just not great. it also depends on the game, now if your not a hardcore gamer and are just a casual gamer or maybe you use it for other reasons that have nothing to do with games. then this laptop will do just fine.

Aspire 3 is also a good choice. Specs are pretty nice

No, because MB will just downclock the RAM. It doesnt support higher speeds

You can add 8GB to the existing 4GB. But to get a faster dual channel configuration, its recommended to install symmetric pair

Yes, IPS screen looks much better. It has wide viewing angle, and when you tilt the screen, the texts and pictures don't looked washed out

Ryzen 3 3200u model was released last year. There are newer Intel and AMD models of this laptop, but they are more expensive
i am using this laptop , its awesome . I installed linux on it and after that the battery lasted for a very long time .

is this laptop known for freezing problems? i recently bought an open box version and it kept freezing but i wanted to know that if i got it brand new, would those problems go away?
you get alot of performance for the price, now if your a hardcore gamer I wouldn't look at this. but it will play some modern games, just not great. it also depends on the game, now if your not a hardcore gamer and are just a casual gamer or maybe you use it for other reasons that have nothing to do with games. then this laptop will do just fine.
