Last fall I purchased two of the Ryzen 3 3200U laptops from your links. I am not a power user and the specs of the CPU were fine for me. I liked these models because they could be modified, like in the old days. I upgraded each of them to Intel 660 NVME 512 Gb drives. I upgraded both units to 16 gig of RAM and I also added 1 Tb SSD drives to these units. One I left a total Windows 10 machine, the other I installed Ubuntu 18.04 LTS on. Ubuntu worked flawlessly on it. Since the release of Ubuntu 20.04 I have upgraded to that edition with no problems. I also run BlueTooth peripherals on both laptops with no faults at all, mouse, smart speakers and occasionally a BT keyboard. The build quality is excellent for this price point. I have had both machines opened up multiple times with no issues regarding the plastic retaining clips. These are a joy to work on if you need to go inside to tweak things a bit. I highly recommend the Acer Ryzen 3 to anyone who wants a great value and if they are contemplating an Ubuntu laptop, this model is a great fit for Windows too, with the added mods. Thank you Panda for a great review on the different available models or the Aspire 5 and the interior technical specs.

My Acer Aspire 5, i7 1.8GHz laptop came with 128SSD and 1TB HDD. It has a 620 UHD integrated graphics card. I love my fantastic Acer Aspire 5, i7 1.8GHz, 8565U laptop. I can play some basic light games and I can watch movies on Netflix. I am very satisfied with my fantastic and amazing Acer Aspire 5, i7 (8th generation), 8565U laptop. I have an older Vivobook 14 maybe from 2018 or 2017. Totally different architecture. Mine has upgraded RAM slots, 2.5" drive bay. Socketed WiFi. I run Windows and Linux. Mine is cheap feeling, short battery life, and the speakers don't get loud enough. Looks like the new Vivobook fixes all that and looks a lot nicer and the price is the same! Good review.

Hello. I bought the $500 (now $700) i5-8265u, with no GPU. I am absolutely thrilled with it, and I must say, very surprised. I don't understand how a 1.60ghz cpu can perform this well. A few years ago Turbo Boost didn't mean much so I thought it was a marketing gimmick. Apparently it's the opposite now. My full image backups take 8 minutes at 52% cpu, 65 degrees C. I cold-boot to Win10 in 5 seconds! I really didn't expect to get a crazy-fast computer like this. I thought it would be just a touch better than a netbook -- just Linux-worthy. It runs Win10 like a dream with 100 Firefox tabs open. One thing you didn't mention: Acer says it has a USB 3.1 type-C port. It is actually USB 3.1 Gen 1, which is the same as USB 3.0, so your speed over the USB-C port is max 5gb/s instead of 10gb/s. However, the C-port does connect to HDMI 2.0, whereas the onboard HDMI port is only version 1.4 -- important for universal docking stations, and also HDR video output. (Might want to mention that too.) It also comes with the extra HDD caddie inside for adding more space with 2.5" SSD or HDD. This nice touch, plus the IPS screen, are normally only seen in higher-end brands like Lenovo. Very very pleased.

The Samsung 500gb that I bought has a model number of MZ-76E500B/AM and your link shows the same model without the 'B'. I'm hoping that is still okay. So overall, with upgrades I paid 900 Canadian taxes in. Good deal or overpaid?

The highest variant Aspire to me is the better price/performance. BUT, for about 10,000r more the Nitro 5 is available. I am NOT a gamer. most of the games I do play are on my phone. But what I need is a laptop config that can handle BlueStacks so that I can run my security camera software in Windows 10. I am unsure if this would be processor or GPU intensive. My current laptop is Toshiba Satellite C55-A5182 which has i3-4000 and intel graphics. it struggles to run the BlueStacks let alone loading the Security Software. Hi again. I have just purchased the Acer Aspire 5 15.6" Laptop - Silver (Intel Core i5-10210U/256GB SSD/8GB RAM/Windows 10) and I bought an additional 16 gb of ram. I have read that the board has 4 Gb of ram soldered in plus the 8 gb that came with it. I read that the max ram is 20 gb. That being said the 16gb of ram is useless to me. It sounds like I only need 8gb ram + 8 that came with it + 4 gb on the board. Is my assumption correct?
Your laptop has total 8 GB RAM. 4 GB soldered + 4 GB replaceable. You should replace the 4 GB DIMM with the 16GB that you purchased. This will give you a total of 20Gb

Yes, this laptop will serve your needs. I prefer Acer laptops because they are easy to upgrade and cheaper than Dell (at least in USA). Acer does not get hot, fans do a good job. You should look at the pricing in India to make your decision.

1 error you made.. if u add an 8gig stick.. it will still run in single channel mode.. you must have 2 sticks of the same amount of ram for it to run in dual channel mode..

The one I bought on Amazon, [i5-8265U, 8Gb, 256gb, no GPU], has a great IPS display. No need to adjust the angle to read. Nice, vivid colors; maybe a little dim for sunlight, but great movie quality when tested with 1080p. I use madvr h.265 just fine too. I got mine refurbished and I'm very happy. The seller was "bestdigitalbuy (SN Recorded)". He removed all the bloatware and turned off Windows S mode for me. I paid $499. New listing has gone up to $699 now.

Hi again. I have just purchased the Acer Aspire 5 15.6" Laptop - Silver (Intel Core i5-10210U/256GB SSD/8GB RAM/Windows 10) and I bought an additional 16 gb of ram. I have read that the board has 4 Gb of ram soldered in plus the 8 gb that came with it. I read that the max ram is 20 gb. That being said the 16gb of ram is useless to me. It sounds like I only need 8gb ram + 8 that came with it + 4 gb on the board. Is my assumption correct?
Your laptop has total 8 GB RAM. 4 GB soldered + 4 GB replaceable. You should replace the 4 GB DIMM with the 16GB that you purchased. This will give you a total of 20Gb

I want to ask if you have ever faced a problem with mixing different sizes of RAM in your laptop((Because on many of your videos you mentioned adding extra ram to your laptop beside to the soldered 4GB stick )). Since I am buying a laptop with a soldered 4GB RAM in addition to a SODIMM slot ,and it does support RAM up to 32Gb with a frequency of 2666mhz and I want to put in the SODIMM slot a 16GB RAM stick ,so base on your answer to my first question about (Mixing RAM sizes) do you advise me to go ahead and buy the laptop and upgrade the ram.

Yes, this laptop will serve your needs. I prefer Acer laptops because they are easy to upgrade and cheaper than Dell (at least in USA). Acer does not get hot, fans do a good job. You should look at the pricing in India to make your decision.

It's plastic build. But I have used it for over a year and it's going great. If you can get warranty at reasonable price then go for it.

1 error you made.. if u add an 8gig stick.. it will still run in single channel mode.. you must have 2 sticks of the same amount of ram for it to run in dual channel mode..
yes, but if you are on a tight budget then single channel configuration of 8GB + 4GB = 12GB works really well.

Hello Mate, should i go for the Aspire 5 with the Ryzen 5 3500U over the Ryzen 3 3200U model? The price difference is about $170 for a better CPU, Vega 8 Graphics and an extra 128gb storage. The one I bought on Amazon, [i5-8265U, 8Gb, 256gb, no GPU], has a great IPS display. No need to adjust the angle to read. Nice, vivid colors; maybe a little dim for sunlight, but great movie quality when tested with 1080p. I use madvr h.265 just fine too. I got mine refurbished and I'm very happy. The seller was "bestdigitalbuy (SN Recorded)". He removed all the bloatware and turned off Windows S mode for me. I paid $499. New listing has gone up to $699 now.

I think it's pretty good. Probably one of the best deals right now at that price point. But really what matters is whether you enjoy and are satisfied with the laptop. If you are satisfied with it then it's definitely worth it.
