    Oh darn! I wanted to hear more about the Allis Chalmers!! My -in-law worked as an implement store mechanic for years.
    His hobby was restoring old Allis Chalmers and he traveled the country, for decades, going to auctions for parts.
    He's in his late 80's now, still living on the farm but no longer farming, getting paid to let the land set idle. 🤷

    Nice job! I’m an excavating contractor and sell hundreds of cords of firewood every year, I’m no mechanic but I fix all my own stuff because I can’t afford mechanic rates or wait…anyhow here’s my big tip…when working on the cylinders or anything on the workbench I always put down a….empty 30 pack box! Busch light boxes will work just as good as a miller lite box!

    Nice work! You are more mechanically inclined than the average joe. Where did you learn your skills? Farm? School? DIY? Also did you install the vehicle lift in your garage? I would like to put one in mine.

      Just taught myself from taking stuff apart and figuring it out. I did install the lift in my shop myself. Wasn’t hard, just bulky to get everything lined up because it’s so big

    Have trouble getting my rod out of the cylinder. Or shaft.

    • @EverythingElliott
      @EverythingElliott  8 місяців тому

      Don’t be afraid to give it the business. Those seals are designed to be tight and can fight you some times. Push the rod half way in so you have a “running start” when trying to pull it out, use inertia to your advantage.

    It’s a easy fix but watch out because some cly have welded ends and can’t be rebuilt unless a machine shop cuts the end off
    Look before you buy and buy a kit or 2 when you buy the equipment

    I have the same log splitter, and can't seem to find a rebuild kit for that specific model . Will any 4" -1.75 kit work?

    • @EverythingElliott
      @EverythingElliott  18 днів тому

      I doubt it. There are so many different variations of cylinders. We found this one on Amazon by typing in the make and model with “cylinder kit”

    Not so sure using those metal tools around the shaft was wise. Use wood and rubber or plastic hammer.

    13:04, spring down. Spring always towards pressure.
    That's the hardest one to get in and ya'll turn off the camera. WHY DO YOU THINK I'M WATCHING THIS VIDEO!!
    I need to know how that seal goes in. That's the entire purpose.

    • @EverythingElliott
      @EverythingElliott  7 місяців тому

      Pinch the seal so it can fit inside the hole, start one part of the seal in the grove, and slowly move your tool so you keep pushing a little more of the seal into the groove. You’ll eventually get to a point where you’ll have just a little bit left outside of the groove and you’re going to feel like it isn’t designed to fit there. That’s where patience and force comes in, carefully, but firmly force that seal into place with a dull tool as to not damage it

    I think I put the inner blue rings in wrong. Around the 13:10 mark you mention “spring down, always towards pressure” can you explain how those blue inner rings go in?
    I replaced mine but when I went to put that cap back on the rod, I jacked up the blue rings and have to get new ones. Again, would be helpful to know how to put those on properly.
    TIA!

    • @EverythingElliott
      @EverythingElliott  Рік тому +1

      Spring toward pressure because that’s the way the lip is facing, you want the fluid pushing into the lip pushing the ring outward against the rod, if you put the ring the opposite way it would be able to push past it fairly easily. When you put the cap back on, use lube, hydraulic oil is obviously the best. Take your time to make sure you’re not forcing it on.

    I have the same splitter and the cylinder just started to leak...it would have really been helpful if you could have explained or shown better when you were using the brass dead blow on the face plate....it really was not clear what you did...and if you mentioned the part number and / or source for the O rings...really can't even call this a how to video missing that information....I appreciate that you did the video, but for a 23 minute long video, you omitted the 2 most important things

    • @EverythingElliott
      @EverythingElliott  Рік тому +1

      I didn’t bring the parts, George had them already so I’m not sure on any part numbers. Give me a couple min I’ll link you a video where I go deep into taking the cylinder apart, I believe I referenced it in the splitter video.

    How do you figure what size seals to get?

    • @EverythingElliott
      @EverythingElliott  11 місяців тому

      You can pull the part number right off the seals, if they don’t have part numbers, take the piston (disassembled) to any decent hydraulic shop and they will hook you up with a kit. They will just measure it
