The O-Ring that was leaking in this video was the first one that was removed. It is a #16 O-Ring, $1.05 at Ace Hardware. I had the same leak on mine and the O-Ring fixed it. The old O-Ring was not very pliable anymore. A standard nitrile or Buna-N O Ring is petroleum resistant and is good from -40 to 250 degrees F. Viton can go to 450 degrees F but the hydraulic oil doesn't run that hot. When time permits, I'm going to replace the spool O-Ring at the other end of the valve. The video was helpful with the disassembly process.
Great video. Thanks for the information at the end of the vid too. I was able to order a kit for my swisher log splitter today instead of buying a new control valve for almost $250.
Great vid Ken, I have a 28 ton husky splitter. The Return valve started leaking. I bought o-ring valve kit. Your rebuid took lots of my angth away. I never worked on a valve like this before. So I wanted to also set the torque. I have hex bits so a socket workrd fine. also one could cut a piece off a 3/16 allen with a socket. The allen screws are not really critical. The Detent did concern me. I cut 3 plates and screwed them together witn center one extended an 1/8 inch. One can slip them into a 3/4 socket and then use with torque wrench. Have 40 hours on the splitter and all is good. THANK YOU,
Interesting Video, with Good and not so interesting moments. First the negative - The producer seemed lost a few times(lack of preparation?) The Rambling (old stories, Tool construction commentary) made focusing on the task a bit difficult. The use of locktite on fasteners that may need future removal. - Blue is always the preference in such cases. That irritating Hydraulic Hose that keep blocking the Camera from the work being done. The Positive - The Basic Steps needed to replace each seal Clearly revealed by the Video. - Thanks for repeatedly moving that line out of the way. *Why all this matters: Videos are a lifeline to the DIY'er and one rarely knows when they will need (correct)information to tackle sme random repair that pops up. This a.m. I was out splitting a large stack of 16" limbs I had cut n Saturday, After bringing the Splitter to the garage to correct the Bent/droopy table. Sometime between the last use(before all the local rain) and today, (1) Tail Cap Screw wet missing(unnoticed) and the other screw started backing out. The splitter was working and nothing was leaking as I started splitting. After about 1/2 a face cord I noticed the return was acting up, activating near dead center on the lever and a little stiff. I Thought a Detent was sticking causing a little internal resistance on the return. NOPE. A few more splits and suddenly Hydraulic fluid went shooting across the Yard under Ram Pressure(extension) I immediately killed the throttle shutting down the motor, and looked to see the end cap almost falling off. **** Thanks to this Video I was able to identify the steps needed to disassemble and inspect for any internal damage, and yes, the excessive movement when it released cause the O-ring to lose a 1/2" section.(snipped by plunger movement) After a trip to Tractor Supply for a (2)pack of M6 1.00x30mm Socket head screws and rifling through the garage for the Harbor Freight SAE O-ring Kit(have metric also but SAE was the closest match), I was ready for the task at hand. 2+hrs chasing Video information, Chasing down under $3 in parts and gathering the tools needed, I tackled the Repair. 3 minutes later, I fired up the Splitter and tested for Leaks and operation. Still have no clue where in yard that missing screw may be laying i wait for my mower. I'm sure a sudden loud Ting will remind me in the future. Why do we DIY? Obviously - Savings........ and the challenge. Professional, at least 1hr minimum + at minimum $29.99 for the Speeco O-ring seal kit, + $3-$4 for (1) 30mm Screw. I did all that myself for less than the cost of the Screw and was back working this afternoon. 2 Face cords split after repairs. So, in conclusion - THANK YOU - for taking the time to make this informative video.
Good job thanks for the info. now I need to find out where you bought that kit. I got tired of touching the wood more than once so I bought a flatbed dump truck, mounted the 26 ton splitter on the passenger side of the flatbed, sectioned it off with a frame of steel around the log splitter and mounted reservoir and pump above the splitter, draped chain from front to back of the bed so the pile of split wood while sliding out won't hit my log splitter. bolted everything down so when the dump bed lifts it doesn't fall off and can pull up cut split and load with a 6-ft expanded metal hydraulic ramp off the side as well that brings the rounds right to the splitter. and I just throw them over the chain and I get a pretty good pile that can cut split and deliver a cord easier and I don't have to get multiple loads. Cut split stack dump deliver. much easier on the old man. take care and have a good day. Again thanks.
Saved me about $90 on a new valve. Bought used log splitter and valve didn't work right. Had to push really hard to return but it would split going forward on it's own. I took valve apart without paying attention to part order since it was most likely wrong anyways. Your video showed me how to put it together correctly. Watched 3 others before yours that were not very helpful. Only frustration from yours was the hose in the way. I had to watch the very last part order 3 times to make sure I had it same as yours. The end peice on mine wasn't originally even screwed into the valve, just wedged in between cap.
I'm about to do the same job. You did excellent. Show me exactly what I need to do. But I only have a box of o-rings. I don't have the kit. Thank you very much for the video. 👍😀
I just went to the Napa hardware store plumbing section it was a number 17 on my valve forgot how I took it apart watch your video remember some engineering stuff washer helped put it back together ball bearing shot out everywhere crap assembly detonation found all the ball bearings in the forest with the magnet lost one again found it lost another one found all four managed to push spring down with a quarter inch extension and then sleeve over to lock in that bearing that was tricky fuel pump went out pulled it off cap the crankcase no fuel pump needed as long as car blower than tank awesome wood splitter back at it.
Awesome video going to mine today thank you only thing I was wondering is did u have to remove it all just appeared all the o- rings are all removed with out the piston being removed just a thought
You guys are a trip. Ken made a good informative video, and alot of guys are bitching. If you knew how to do it then why are you watching? Telling someone that is doing you a favor to learn how to film. Figure it out yourselves. Thanks for the info Ken, I just wanted to see what i was into before I disassembled mine.
Hi Mr.Webb, great video, good visual, easy to understand, thank you. But my log splitter is leaking on the other side of the lever where the whole mechanism attaches to the log splitter. Can you do a video on that ? I’m a 62 yr old female and I live alone and my log splitter is very important. Wood is the only way to heat my house. I’ve had it and used it for 3 seasons and it seems after I tryed to split a piece of eucalyptus my log splitter said “ heck no ! “ 😮and started to leak. I will never try that again, just stick to oak and pine. Lol
looks like you need to adjust the gibs on the traveling wedge (to keep it aligned with the beam) 2 or 4 , 5/8" square steel wear bars that keep your wedge centered , thats what the 2 screws do on the side of the wedge . (adjustment) I have the 21 ton and 25 ton mtd splitter and the 21 ton hasnt needed much adjustment , but when i bought the 25 ton , they were all gone and the wear on the beam is substantial, and was wearing on the underside also , the way the guy had it rigged . dont buy the 14.00 ones from mtd , you can get all 4 for the price of one at any steel shop (or at least i did)
DO YOU HAVE THE DIMENSIONS OF THE O RINGS THAT CAME IN THE KIT? THAT KIT SELLS FOR 30 DOLLARS!!!! FOR 5 O-RINGS!! I CAN BUY AN O-RING KIT WITH VARIOUS 270 PIECES FOR UNDER 10 DOLLARS!! NEED THE SIZES. ARE THEY METRIC OR SAE? GREAT VIDEO.. EAGLE-SAN IN CO.
This is the kit I used. I would be sure that your specific machine and the kit you buy are interchangeable. Amazon link to O-Ring Parts www.amazon.com/dp/B07M9HS8XC/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_bLeOEb0C0VPM0
And the damm music isn't even music, it's just the same sound over and over and over and over. I love youtube but there needs to be some sort of protest as I always walk away annoyed and agitated.

When you find the right O-rings for the other side, would you post those too? Bet it is way more affordable.
Great video. Thanks for the information at the end of the vid too. I was able to order a kit for my swisher log splitter today instead of buying a new control valve for almost $250.

Good vid the music is a bit rough though but thanks I got the exact same log splitter with the exact same problem and I'm going to fix it thanks again
The music was like nails on a chalkboard. Couldn’t finish watching.
Thx for the video - its exactly what i needed, Thx for posting the kit info from Amazon

I have the same problem. It will go forward not backwards. This video helped me as well.
Thank you for this video! I used it to help fix mine. Put a New motor and changed hydrolic fluid also. Like new now. Thank you!
Thanks I had no instructions. This helped alot
I'm about to do the same job. You did excellent. Show me exactly what I need to do. But I only have a box of o-rings. I don't have the kit. Thank you very much for the video. 👍😀

The spool should have been put back in from the detent end not the lever end. Read the directions.
Thanks for making this video hopefully I never have to do this fix but if I do I will know how to do it thanks again.
music is horrible and doesn't go with logsplittwr repair video. otherwise good vid.
Fantastic.
On point!

Thank You
Thank you for your video.
Great video, thank you. My God, does everyone that makes videos use the same damn music.
Good video but music is horribly annoying
ditch the music it makes me angry just hearing it

Lose the music please, I'll come back sometime
Can't take the music, had to turn this off. Sorry.
No more music 🤫
The annoying music is making it hard to watch.
And for some, it added to the enjoyment of watching.
Good video but the annoying music is too much to handle. Definitely should have eliminated that crap!
Thanks. But that music was terrible.
Remember that hydraulic orings are special and you can get them from a hydraulic shop or order them
Pliers send me a link for the rebuild kit. Thanks
Your knowledge is very valuable but why all the over volumed annoying and unnecessary PARLOR MUSIC. Sounds like something from the exorcist
Flat washers will take slack out of handle
Thank you for the video… but that music gave me a headache. :(
I wanted to watch, but the music was horrible, sorry.
Lose the music
What was part no of kit
I believe it is in the video description.
Hi. Great video. Where exactly did you get the O rings from?? Im having trouble up here in Canada.....😄👍👍👍👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏🙏
This is the kit I used. I would be sure that your specific machine and the kit you buy are interchangeable.

Hi, thanks for your video! Can you gave me the adresse where you ordre the o-Ring kit and what’s the kit name?
It was amazon. Just go to hardware store & match up o-rings. O-ring is an o-ring.
Learn how to make a video without blocking stuff out please! I couldn’t what I was needing to see , the action was behind the hose at 8:30
Drop the background music
And the damm music isn't even music, it's just the same sound over and over and over and over. I love youtube but there needs to be some sort of protest as I always walk away annoyed and agitated.
This is not the way to do it. You probably tore the new o-ring. Will leak again shortly
I couldn't hear a darned thing except that stupid annoying music.
Terrible horrible music nice video without that that devil playing
For Cripe sake why on earth does youtube have music in the background when a person is speaking? It ought to be banned all across the board. Is it automatic or does a poster add it? Can't stand it any longer, so annoying.
Great video "but" that kreepy annoying music 💥😵😵😵made me turn you off much less like and subscribe 😬
Why the annoying background music?
Painful
