Pls play Katana Zero, it's very similar to this game, but 2D and AWESOME.
PLEASE PLAY SUPERHOT. ITS AWESOME. And you’ll probably be good at it. It’s the most innovative shooter I’ve played in years
How do you take suggestions for what to play for this series? Is it just in aggregate of what patrons, discord and youtube comment peeps say in conjunction with what catches your eye?
@@SuperT380 Yeah its when a bunch of people are telling me to check something out and it looks interesting to me.
I dare you to say something negative about doom eternal in the next vid
"I wasn't gonna mention doom" lol
He should start hus next non doom eternal video saying doom eternal
Its not possible at this point
I'm proud of you Mayo, 3:51 without referencing Doom Eternal.
what about god of war
@@cam0227 weeeell you know, one at a time.
You should definitely play *insert random game you haven't heard of before or played it already*. You'll like it for sure.
Another great video, Mayo. I will say, though, that the cybervoid did teach me one really useful skill by locking me out of my other movement options - the slide jump. Using slide and then immediately jumping gives you a boost of speed. Then, when outside the cybervoid, I figured I could integrate a dash into it too for incredibly long jumps and amazing speed. Obviously it wasn't intentional though, unfortunately.
Personally, Ghostrunner is one of my favourite games of the year, but your critiques also make perfect sense to me.
Yeah there are cool hidden movement options to be found.
@Will in what way
i wouldn't think it was unintentional, this game is too speedrunny and focused on movement for the designers to not have purposefully made it so
@@aesonone Definitely not unintentional.
This feels like one of those games where if it ever gets a sequel it has the potential of being a total bop. It has a really sound base and most of the problems are stuff that a sequel could totally fix and improve. Let's hope it gets the chance that Metal Gear Rising never got
They said there will be a DLC
The dystopian future the game takes place in does offer a lot of storytelling to explore. If they make a sequel. The world outside the tower would be fun to explore.
And what do you know, Ghostrunner 2 was recently announced. ^__^
@@LeoKRogue Shiieeet I didnt know that. Hype fo sho
there WILLLLLLL BE A SEQUEL
So it looks like Under The Mayo is becoming another TheGamingBrit where he tries other awesome action games and viewers place bets on how long before he mentions his favorite series.
In GamingBrit's case it's Devil May Cry, in Mayo's case it's Doom.
Yeah at this point I just laugh whenever I need to reference doom because the angry reaction from some people is really funny. If people want video where everything is talked about in a vacuum, they can go to official review channels. This is a channel based on my experience and perspective, which is largely based in MK, Doom, GOW, Resident Evil, and Silent Hill.
@@underthemayo It’s what they say that “Taste is like ass for 3 reasons:
1: Everyone got one
2: It’s split
3: Someone else is always shit.
Thats a compliment. TGBS is awesome.
Almost as iconic as the oldest anarchy server
Honestly, playing nightmare Doom Eternal made this game way, way easier than if I had not done it. That game taught me so many skills.
Good points on the cybervoid parts. They feel like the indie equivapent of un-skipable cutscenes.
I kinda feel like Eternal kinda spoils other games a little for us at this point. This game is still plenty hard, but certain elements are definitely easier because of the skills and reflexes I learned in Doom. I don't think it's a bad thing, though, but something to take into consideration.
For me it didn’t translate lol pretty sure I died more in my first play through of this game than my total deaths in eternal (300 hours of game time 😂)
UnderTheMayo reviews (name of game):
"I enjoyed it, but it wasn't challenging enough."
*end of review*
I'm kidding. 😂 Great stuff.
This game DEFINITELY was challenging. Just wanted some more challenging platforming in the first half.
@@underthemayo the game is pretty short too, I wish it had more stuff
@@underthemayo perhaps somebody already mentioned it, but you may like hardcore mode released in December.
A lot more challenging platforming + an absence of cybervoid sections and dialog.
3:46 for those looking for the memes
" The Memes... "
7:35 - * stares Samuel Haydenly *
If you're into synthwave the soundtrack made by Daniel Deluxe is a must have
The way the told the story was perfect for a game like this, wtf? 😂
You don't have to stop, the fast paced gameplay just continues all the time.
@@souranis But then you can just ignore it altogether, there's like no story based cutscenes or anything.
The lazer boss took me 17 min and 110 deaths but it was honestly a rush the whole time. The biggest 'git gud' moment I've seen in a game in a while
Just imagine that in Doom Eternal, sections between arenas would be like in ghostrunner.
You just walk through the worlds once filled with life, now drenched in blood, watching what the demons are doing on the captured planets, while listening to VEGA or Hayden. No Mario platforming, no yellow pipes, no stupid flying chains in the middle noreasons. Just good old gloom fear and desperation. Gorgeous.
i can guarantee you won't be able to go 30 seconds without talking about doom eternal if you play ULTRAKILL
The one challenge Mayo has to face greater than Ultra Nightmare
Let's be real though, is anyone in your audience actually worried about dying too much in a game?
Tbh I'd start questioning my purchase.
In some games its painful to die, but i think this one handles it very well: "oh you made a mistake? yeah yeah well quick get back into the action"
To an extent I'm ok with the idea of "fight fail learn & Repeat"
But as i said! To an extent... just 10 minutes ago i was playing the game.... not only the dying was becoming tiresomly frustrating but also as i looked into the system and the structure of the game.... i realized that actually it has many many flaws regarding the structure
Like Enemies hard scoping aim assisting you.
After a while i didn't felt like:
"oh it's a game!!! And i wanna have FUN!"
i felt like:
"ok now; how in the name of jesus can i PASS!!! this level?"
It might got to do with my specific style and genre of gaming... however i deeply enjoyed doom 2016 and Eternal, loved mirror's edge and dying light and many more games where platforming is on top of the mechanics
@@poyakhajei2585 You gotta move fast and I mean really fast to not get aimbotted. Using the hook and wallrunning usually doesnt get you killed because the enemies are pretty much scripted to miss, but if you just run, slide or jump for too long in 1 direction, you are 100% gonna get aimbotted. You gotta use every movement tech all the time, dash boosting into jumps and shit. That, or you gotta "jump shoot" every enemy when possible, by jumping, slowing down time and getting the kill. You really gotta abuse that. I played this on PS4 and many of my deaths felt like bullshit, on 30FPS, with no motion blur and 120fov, sometimes I still didnt see shit coming at me, getting myself killed. I had to run the red outline perk for the enemies. And ngl when they put them kamikaze spiders around corners or when he randomly started a vaulting animation when jumping around (that half the time didnt even work on ledges its supposed to work on) or he just wallrunned when you just wanted to drop down and get a kill, it felt like bs deaths that I shouldnt have gotten. Also one of them yellow railings you grab on like skylines from Bioshock Infinite/zip lines was bugged, every time you jumped on a specific spot on a specific one in "things you wouldnt believe" level, the character auto jumped for no reason and got you killed with no jump input being given by me😂
All that being said I loved it and got the Plat.
now it's time to play the underdog, "Tetris"
I personally think you'd really enjoy Ultrakill. Gameplay is very fast, the guns all feel great to use with very creative and unique alternate fire modes and interplay across each other, there's also a lot of tech if you choose to get really into it. The game very much favors creative and precise gameplay with a style system that further rewards you for constantly swapping weapons, air time, evasion etc with a very neat way to heal that requires you to essentially Gib enemies at point blank to cover yourself in their blood. Also has a stellar soundtrack that very much gets you in the mood for the gameplay the same way Doom Eternal's OST does
@j. Ahhhh, I felt like he's mentioned it before but when I did a quick search I couldn't find any videos on it so that makes sense, thanks for clarifying
under the mayo as a kid:
"everyone told me to play tag. gameplay wise it is very similar to doom eternal."
Oh, so it's Genji: The Game.
I'm at like, the 3rd level and didn't even know you could hold on to the airdash to slow time ☠️.
My only gripe is that you didnt mention the unlockable difficulty. not only does it include advanced enemies early on, it allso makes the fighting rooms more different. btw it allso mutes dialogue and removes cybervoid segments
That was an addition made later.
I think the story was delivered perfectly. If it was done any other way it would have slowed the game down, but the way they have done it makes it still fun just to get exposition as you’re still doing fight and at times really fun platforming sections
"I wont reference doom" Then starts to talk about how doom eternal's parkour system works.
>Mayo Marauder
Did you know that making mayonnaise takes a lot of time and suffering? You have to get 5 egg yolks and a mixture of 1 tsp salt, 1 tbsp sugar, 1 tbsp lemon juice, 2 tbsp water, 1 tbsp vinegar, and 1 tsp dry mustard. Crack 5 eggs and take out the yolks. Put them in a bowl and throw away the rest of the egg. Mix all the other ingredients EXCEPT for the eggs and 4 cups of oil, then you make a double broiler and put only about a teaspoon of the vinegar mixture in the egg bowl before constantly whisking for until it gets thick and white-yellow (6 minutes) if you stop, it could reverse the process. You then make a towel nest and Slowly mix in the rest of the vinegar mix. Now you mix in the oil, but you have to do it slowly or the egg and oil will split and you’ll have to redo the whole thing. While mixing constantly so it doesn’t come apart (another 4 minutes) If you succeed, you get mayonnaise.
Mayo Marauder sounds like double suffering.
I never told you to play this what
>people talking to you constantly as you're playing
This trend needs to die.
it's not necessarily bad, and personally, I feel like it's done well in Ghostrunner, you get explained how Dharma works pretty well and it doesn't come off as too heavy, it also helps build up the character of Jack (or Ghostrunner) and the Architect, shifting the end in place
@@andreadebernardis4390 Almost every rule in the world has exceptions.
Dude for a AA game, this was an amazing game and I loved it! I do agree with you about the cybervoid levels though, the do kill the pacing and yes, the players abilities and platforms could have been stitched in a better manner to deliver a better experience.
One thing I felt was that the colour palette was overwhelming at times and it gave me a headache over longer play sessions. They could have muted the colours in some levels and this would still be a great game.
The enemy variety is brilliant. I can’t wait to try out NG plus because it has offers a more challenging configuration of enemies and revised platform of to make things even more challenging. This should address your concerns about the game not being challenging enough in the first half of the play through.
The music and instant respawns kept me coming back and did not break my immersion, and this I feel is a lesson that many souls like games need to learn. It made the game challenging unlike souls likes which I find unforgivably frustrating.
That being said, a sequel has been announced and I just can’t wait for it.
Good news, they announced a sequel for this game, excited to see what they do!
You mention doom like how the gamingbrit mentions devil may cry i love it lol
This channel grew fast, i love your content. glad you're getting recognition.
in my opinion titanfalls movement was way smoother combined with the slide
Yes
the music in this game is gorgeous
man I played the demo of this and fell in love. and only today I discovered the score was made by Daniël Deluxe who'se music I adore. almost feels like this game was just made for me
7:15 He has a katana, great martial arts skills and they call him Jack? Next game they will probably send him on quest for a time portal.
But compating ghostrunner straight with doom eternal is a bit harsh since ID is a legendary triple a company. But yeah i know people gonna compare ghostrunner to doom just to trigger you.
But anyway- another dope vid. Great work thx
Yeah, I had to do it. I was already dealing it with it before making this video. I'm not comparing it with doom. I'm shutting down the idea of comparing it with doom.
Played through this game many many times by now and I wish there was a hardcore mode or something, also it would be awesome if I didn’t have to go through cyber void every time I replay it, just let me go level through level swiftly. All in all awesome game.
The fact that the cyber void sections aren't considered their own stages is just ridiculous. If they were, you could just ignore them in the mission select screen. A lot of really great stages have a cyber void section and it kills the pacing when replaying.
No hardcore mode, no Hotline Miami style ranking system.... I think the gameplay is outstanding and the fact that speed tactics like ledge boosting and dash, slide, jumping don't completely break the platforming sections is really impressive, but damn there are some really silly design decisions holding it back. Still one of the best games of the year for me, but it's frustrating that it's not as good as it should be.
@@ThePhantomTommy I agree, to me the best part of the game was the combat but because there’s no hardcore mode or a horde mode I feel “combat starved” if that makes sense lol
I just 100%ed it yesterday. I gotta say playing the levels for the first time, the cybervoid was't half bad. I was a fan of most of the puzzles tho.
But playing through levels again to get all collectables and achivements it becomes increadibly frustrating to have to do them again.
There is nothing to gain from going to the cybervoid twice. No achivements at all, you already know to puzzles and have been using the abilitys you're being tought for hours.
This game needs a New Game+ without the cybervoid.
ye the cybervoid kinda shits on the speedrunniness of this game as well
This game was basically Shinobi for the PS2, but in a first person view. From the escalating difficulty, dashing and wall running mixed into combat, up to the final levels demanding some mastery of the mechanics to complete. Though Shinobi could be said to be a bit harder.
Honestly after playing ghostrunner for like 3 hours myself I think that besides the combat(which is fukin amazing), the cybervoid ain't as bad as you made it out to be. Sure there's not any action going on, but u can listen to the dialogue in the background which can be interesting and also it contributes to the story because you use the cybervoid to fix yourself (ghostrunners software) and you also fix some stuff in the tower.
Edit: Game is an easy 8/10 imo
Probably been said before but since I didn't see it in the video I'll say it. You can kill enemies with their own bullets by deflecting them
I'd love another vid on titanfall 2 but with a focus on speed running and advanced movement as I feel that is where the game really shines.
That certainly won't be coming from this channel...
Not to mention most platforming in Doom Eternal is designed in a way that lets you bypass a good portion of it and the rest is extremely easy to just rush through in a matter of seconds once you know what you're doing.
I was just gonna recommend it to you when I saw your vid, awesome!
So basically, Doom but you're a ninja.
have you played hollow knight? the platforming is amazing and the bosses are very fun to fight
tbh i didn't mind the story telling part that much. When I was playing the game it wasn't really distracting OR annoying me. As you've mentioned the difficulty of the story mode isn't hard so the talking wasn't really causing any issue while taking away a little bit of my attention. Plus the voiceacting wasn't half bad.
In hardcore mode tho, it would be a big issue tho since I need to put full attention on the gameplay but luckily it's not there.
man I had no idea some people like Doom Eternal's platforming parts!!!
I think this game was very stylistic orientated, with all the techno visuals, music and slow motion maneuvers.
Dani Viewers: *K A R L S O N V I B E Intensifies*
They Added a hardcore Mode and some Master Level type Thing where you Play against the time. Its even mor difficult
never stop talking about doom
It’s a good game what can I say
I'm glad Mayo has something he really likes in Doom Eternal, I wish I could find a game like that for me. I do hope this game gets a sequel though.
If you haven’t played either, I suggest Jedi Fallen order or Sekiro, both games have a similar combat mechanics.
Watch out eternal Cyberpunk is coming
I loved this game, finished it in 2 nights, got all the collectibles too.
"platforming is solid"
sad part is, ghostrunner has by far the best platforming of any first person game, period.
The game just does nothing to show/ teach you the more advanced stuff.
I hate cybervoid too, but it becomes actually fun if you know how to slide hop which, again, the game and the marketing do absolutely nothing to teach you.
I agree totally about the story, it's ass. They should've scrapped cybervoid entirely in favour of some actual storytelling.
This game is honestly incredible as a speedrunning game, but if you're only using your movements separately, the way the game encourages you to do, it's nowhere near as fun.
Yeah, that would have been VERY welcome if they incorporated that stuff into the actual game presentation.
Play "Cyberhook", plz. It looks similar, but It has more intersting maps and more freedom to make your own way.
It also has a really neat leaderboards, I saw his death count at the end of each level, and it pushed me to get better scores and better times. I waa hoping I'd find what was under the mayo.
This game should be playable on an arcade machine in Cyberpunk 2077
Well this is an improvement. Hope this is an expansion of your pallete and a note for the future
Did you see the hardcore mode that was added? What are your thoughts on it?
Good to hear! Havent played it but that's great for replayability
You mentioned the edge boosting in the end. There are lots of speedruning technices like this in TF2 too. A youtuber named Bryonato has great guides on all the really advanced ones like forced end boosts or tap strayfing. Could you revisit those or mention them somehow? I would really like to see you speedrun the campaign of it. Great Video. Keep it up!
It was a pleasant surprise for me. The game can be wonky with the wall running, but other than that, I liked it a lot. Nice to see that you gave it a shot
The lack of sliding irritated me
I’d love to hear your thoughts on silent hill 2 or any of the first 3 games. Mostly so you could comment on how to make the boss battles better
I love titanfall 2 movement Bhopping everywhere going lightning fast
I really hope everyone tells him to play Pathologic.
I’m convinced he just hates having any sort of story. He’s gonna hate TDA
Ah good! A game with a type of gameplay that you love! I'm glad that you enjoyed it!
I think the vr levels are something for you to do as you listen to the story
I felt like titan fall 2's movement was perfect.. :( I love that game so I'm a bit biased..
The movement IS wonderful. It's just that the campaign doesn't encourage it due to it's poor AI.
Try ultrakill next, the name is a little tacky but the gameplay seems right up your ally
I'd have to disagree with the boss fight against Hel. It took me a while to figure it out honestly. I realized you had to parry her, but you have to time it perfectly or else it resets her (shield?) health. Granted, it would be more awesome if they incorporated her dashing around you more, but on its own it was really satisfying to me once I got the timing down and could parry her however many times in a row and then attack. It was honestly my favorite fight in the entire game.
When this came out before Cyberpunk, I thought this is a good niece game complementing the cyberpunk style hype, but after that failed Cyberpunk launch, this is the only game that can ease the hunger.
There is no game will kill you more than Sekiro
Honestly I don't get why people get so mad when you mention doom eternal Honestly I don't mind because what you bring up makes sense at Least to me
Because not every game is doom or doom eternal and can't be compared to it.
I played this game to prepared for Doom Eternal. I think it worked.
Finally a mayo vid where he doesn’t dickride doom eternal.
Great to see you giving ghost runner a great review
I'm not gonna lie i just liked the voice of the architect so i kept him around
When I found out that you don't have guns, I checked out then went back to Titanfall 2
I guess I'll wait for Shadow Warrior 3
This game must have a sequel
May I recommend you to try out Temporal Assassin - single-player mod for Gmod which feels like a standalone game. Features aggressive combat with high mobility, a plethora of weapons from different games, replayability and ways to alter your gameplay one way or another
i died well over 500 times in the final level but man was it a good game
Doom eternal if the main character switched to Genji and the setting changed to cyberpunk lmao
And the codex was just there to reinforce how fucked Dharma was
*I Hate Doom Eternal Platforming*
Same Dude: GhOstrUNNer iS mY GOTY
I was lucky enough to get a new copy of this game for the Nintendo switch at gamestop for $25 U.S. dollars. The graphics, future narrative and combat are cool
Yo you need to check out a game called ULTRAKILL if you haven’t already, I have a feeling you’ll fucking love it
Haha this aged so well
I do not think you comparing an aspect of a game to Doom Eternal is a negative quality; you said in another video that you play very few games and tend to stick to a few selection of games that you think are satisfying to play. I think this is a positive quality about you. The viewer has a very clear understanding of what your preferences are and what games you enjoy/do not enjoy; thus your reviews/commentary are more sincere and address specific elements of a game that are important to you. This is good for the viewer if they (me, in this instance) have the same preferances as you, since they can know which games to play/not to play.
Take a shot every time Mayo mentions Doom Eternal or compares a game to Doom Eternal.
See you guys to the ER.
If you're looking for more fast paced action games, I recommend Nex Machina and Bayonetta.
so the ninjas are the less annoying marauders of ghostrunner? cool, i
Loved the game, pre-ordered after playing the demo. But I have to agree that the story is a damp squib. The only memorable part was during the bit where you turn fnas back on to activate the air filtration. Whisper had told you previously that you won't be affected by the toxic outsode air to attempt to make you stick to his plan. Later on he tells you to get out of a place getting flooded with gas (so ypu hurry up) before it can harm you to which your character replies " but didn't you say I'm immune?" And whisper replies "ah, so you *were* listening!". Also awhile the cybervoid bit in the beginning and end were really good for different and contrasting reasons, none of the puzzling bits were much more than insipid time wastes that I disliked completely except for the visuals.
1:15 *cough* Marauder *cough* Invisibility phases need to die *cough*
Marauder can be damaged using the remote detonation and the arbelist blast mod even when there shield is on. Just shoot the remote detonation above his head and detonate it behind him and the splash damage of arbelist shot can be used as when you shoot it near his feet around his left or right side a little far away it's impact damages him.
Am I only one who does not care about spoilers? Especially in games like this where gameplay is highlight?
No. Same for me
I beat Ghostrunner in four days of owning it on my Steam page! It's an amazing game! First person platforming is a frustrating mess for me in both Titanfall 2 and Doom Eternal yet for the most part works better in Ghostrunner! Platforming in 90% of Ghostrunner's gameplay yet only 10% in both Titanfall 2 and Doom Eternal! I strictly preferred the combat in Titanfall 2 and Doom Eternal over the platforming yet both were pretty decent for me in Ghostrunner! I personally thought the first boss in T-073-M was hair pulling and nail chewing frustrating with it's nearly redeeming cases being it's checkpoints during each phase! I thought the second boss in Hel was the most fun boss for me as soon as I learned how to strategize against her! The third boss with Mara was so-so yet I would rather play her multiple times than T-073-M. The final stage was my second least favorite level because of it being ridiculously hard if not cheap thus the encounter with the big bad in Adam being the most anticlimactic enemy fight! I agree with those kamikaze suicide bombing crawling mutants being the worst of all the enemies! Pretty much every gamer hates those type of enemies! Fun time of a game nonetheless and a decent game to play while waiting for Cyberpunk 2077 to finally be released!
How can you possibly say that ghostrunner's movement design was better than titanfall 2?
Ok a bit of a fan boy comment but let's look at how the system works in each game:
Titanfall 2
wallrun to gain speed
make it short to gain more speed
you have complete control on where to go during wallruns and moving up or down, or slow down if you want
slidehope to preserve speed (in case you touch the ground for a moment or two)
grapple to launch yourself and become spiderman (only MP though), can be used on any point on the map, complete direction control
Ghostrunner
wallrun gains speed
how long you wallrun doesn't change your speed
wallrun is automatic, does everything for you if you don't press anything
slidehope to move faster on ground (just like Titanfall, ground in not really necessiry)
grapple is restricted to certain locations and brings you to a set speed value (depends on where you stop it) regardless of your previous speed, limited direction control
dash to push yourself a few meters to any directions, a speedkiller
The movement in ghostrunner is good, and feels completly natural in the combat flow, but also completly necessery
In Titanfall 2 the movement in the singleplayer isn't a must have in a lower difficulties, but both in multiplayer and in singleplayer movement is well integrated and becomes a second nature.
Both games encourage you to gain as much speed as you can to perfrom better in combat, but Titanfall doesn't put any brakes in your way (makes it a challenge on its own), while Ghostrunner's system has a few that you need to manouver around and turn to your favour.
While both games expect accurate and smart desicions during high speed combat, Titanfall's design doesn't condesend itself while ghostrunner's does, which makes Titanfall's movement design better.
Nothing here is to say that Ghostrunner movement design is bad, just like any other game (including titanfall) it has its own flaws, but it was super fun to play and felt great to learn and control it, the combat was also great, and the first boss was just amazing, it had the impact a boss should have in a game and was a true challenge, I think it's the level I died most on.
To conclude, Ghostrunner is great, don't shit on titanfall before you truelly learned it (personal taste is a factor and not everyone would like it, but you should understand something before you shit or praise it), but just like how Mauraders are a wonderfull addition to Doom, so is Titanfall 2's movement design to gaming
Oh wait I think I talked about a single unimportant line instead of commenting on what you actualy talked about
Well, it was pretty nice
The game was fun but I shouldn't have paid full price for it. I did so because the demo was very promising and I expected it to be a game I'd play a fair few times before I'm satisfied. However, I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected and I don't see myself playing it again. The game's really fun in the good bits but there's a lot dragging it down for me. The biggest ones for me was some of the enemies and the final platforming area. The only enemies I didn't care for were the kamikaze enemies; you can't hurt them with conventional attacks and they take too long to blow up by themselves. I can bare with that, what I can not bare with is the sound they make, I'm very sensitive to sounds I don't like and they fit the bill perfectly. I couldn't turn the sounds off for obvious reasons and I think that is one of the biggest reasons they absolutely infuriate me. The bosses like you said are meh that's about it.
The final area would've been good, however, for whatever reason, the framerate absolutely bombs in the cyberspace or whatever it's called. I was getting an easy 144fps in the normal sections so trying to do tight platforming with what felt like 30 was torture. I don't know if anyone else had this issue. The game's really fun but the later parts just left a sour taste.
Have you check out ultrakill or at least heard of it
I played the demo. Reserving judgement.
