Just replaced Mode Actuator on 2008 Cadillac CTS and didn’t require drilling holes in the subframe. Took bottom passenger floor plate and glove box out. Took out the part just below the actuator for extra room and light. *used an offset screwdriver* the ones that look an Allen wrench but with Phillips end. From there is took some angles to loosen up the screws on actuator. It helped to loosen the 2 bottom screws first to release more room for the top. Once you’re able to loosen enough it can be done by hand. On the reinstall it was a little hard to get the grooves to match up. Started with reinstalling all screws but just enough to stay. Then used a long flathead screwdriver to push the grooves back in once the actuator was able to be held by it self. From there it’s a reinstall of everything. Hope that helps out with anyone trying to replace the mode actuator. Not an easy job can be done with patient and small hands.
thanks for sharing. if you could add a picture or a video of the tools that you used that would be great. being trying to complete this job for some time now..

Is it safe to drill into the magnesium alloy? Someone commented on another video that it is not safe to cut or drill into that metal. Possible fire and dangerous to breath in fumes or particles. I just attempted to do this fix but was unable to so what i did was to disconnect the actuator control arm from vent and permanently fixed so cold air comes our of front vents normally. Heating , defrosting and defogger also seem to work fine however the only con is no air blows out of bottom vents when heating is on. I would like to replace the actuator but apparently the magnesium alloy can be hazardous to cut or drill. Let me know what you think. Thanks.
Correct If turned into powder yes it is highly flammable for shops that create tons of it. All you are doing is creating Shavings but You must wear eye pertection as you don't want it falling in your eyes also you need to wear a mask to not breath shavings in. I used a vacuum as I drilled the hole. I forgot to mention that in the video.
My cadillac is starting to make noice from one of the actuators when I switch the mode to blow out the face vents only . .. is tgis the actuator that controls the positions ? From windshield to face ect.
Hey bro I have the same car and same radio. How did you end up wiring the amp to the head unit? Music doesn’t sound as good as it did before for sure. Phoenix auto said that you can’t even wire an aftermarket sub and amp so I’m just confused. Let me know if you got any advice! Thanks my man
Just replace mine. Great information brother thanks. Taking out the whole dash is a hell of a job. Just replace mine and still no ac in dash vents. Only top dash vents blows air. I know the motor works because I checked and saw it move and go through it's cycle. Do you think it is not installed correctly with the tracks not going in the guide
Dude it’s 5 blend doors on there. You have to remove the dash to do the rest. You tripping telling people to damage the Cadillacs because you don’t know what you doing.

Nice information but did you bend the heater pipes
No do not try to bend heater pipes
Any pointers when breaking it off. I'm about to do mine don't want to mess anything up.
It is straight forward. Make sure all levers are in there sleeves when putting actuator back together everything should work correctly
