One of the most clear and grounded videos on anxiety and depression I've watched yet. Actual physical tips and no 'mental masturbation' conceptualisation that just perpetuates being stuck in one's head. Thanks for sharing Dev.

I just really enjoy how you explain stuff, your approach, and that means also energetically not only in the mind. Great to have these videos to watch during the day.

Devaraj, do you reccomend a daily practice of bio energetics for 30 minutes, or just to follow the body and do the exercises when the body feels like doing them?

Daily practice of 30 mins will give way better results. Great question!

Hi dev... I have just started doing tre exercises for about 8 days straight I have managed to get a lower body shaking response.. I've been doing it for a long standing anxiety problem... Dearealization..... The only thing is the other night I experienced a sudden panic attack which lasted about two hours it wasn't a pleasant feeling.I don't normally get them... Could this be caused by the tre work I've been doing.. I have stopped doing tre since because it scared me the feelings of panic were very intense..

Difficult to say for sure. It's good usually that stuff comes up, but at a rate that you feel okay to process it. Dev

Love the content Devaraj! its actually a big misconception that hunter gathers lived relatively short lives and that it was normal for them to live till the 70s and even 80s .maybe check out Dr Chris Ryan he talks allot about the misconceptions people have about hunter gatherers :)

Cool you're honest about it, man. If you can start to make that resistance physical, it will begin to move.

This is exactly why you need to read his books and become a student, instead of just attending some bioenergetic workshops and then thinking you're a qualified teacher. You don't really know what you're talking about. Depression is a bodily condition which won't be fixed by "just moving" or even just expressing one's "self" (which also takes being able to access their aggression, which is something else that has to be worked on). On top of that, being in a depressed state and getting yourself to move requires Will--so all you're doing is pushing people to use their Will, which is something they had already been doing their entire life and is a part of the reason they're depressed. And in fact, most people are in some sort of low depressed state -- and they move a lot! Depression is body UP to brain. You know, for someone who shits on analytical therapy, you're really harping the same narrative with "just move."
Your tips on anxiety may work for people who essentially get nervous and don't realize that expressing, not just feeling, but expression the emotion that's edging upon the surface can nip that in the bud. For others, the subconscious prevents a surrender, and letting to which would allow the person to even feel, let alone express, the emotion, usually because they're actually pretty bad and potentially threatening to the "sanity" of the organism.
You know, Elliot Hulse did the same shit and finally admitted in an interview with London Real that he took a break off youtube for a couple years because he realized how much bullshit he was spewing. You're doing the same thing. If you REALLY want to help people, you need to check yourself and really make sure you know what the hell you're talking about. And since you won't even touch the books, that says a whole lot about what your real intentions are, and what you're afraid of.
Your whole channel is predicated upon the idea that if you just do these exercises, you're eventually going to be "your best self" which is more egoic, transformative bullshit, and completely counter to anything Lowen taught. While it's great you're talking about bioenergetics, you've just used turned this into something you can profit from via your workshops. And fuck you for doing it.

The mental component of depression is invariably a repeated attaching to the stream of thinking that "there's no point in moving/doing." This attachment is the inevitable consequence of other defensive strategies the psyche adopted early on to cope. The physical/brain component is literally sitting on emotions, heavying the whole system up.
Depression is generally not easy to treat, in my experience, and there are multiple different forms, some more pathological than psychological. But some people definitely can make progress.
Plenty of psychotherapists are themselves depressed. I know, they come to me for help. Frequently, unfortunately, their egos are so large and complex, it's hard for them to utilise something which is so little reliant on the ego-based perspective. Many of them originally got into psychotherapy to try and sort themselves out, but they only made a start.
I sense you trying to make a point somewhere in all you have written. But it is not coherent for me. Because you don't actually UNDERSTAND, on a deep level, what therapy is actually trying to achieve, and are clearly unwilling to investigate, you rely instead on egoic posturing. You make a stab at grasping what I'm saying and then place it in one box in your mind. You make a stab at understanding Lowen and place that in another. You then assert that one is "right", and the other "wrong." This infantile (psychological use) posturing is a classic defensive strategy. You adopt what CBT calls "black and white" thinking to avoid having to accept the fact that you just don't understand therapy.
Only awareness finally heals. You can posture and pontificate all you want. But finally you will find, as does everyone, that only awareness heals. And awareness you will not get by using your mind the way you currently are.

I'm no world authority on therapy, but I can talk about my own experience both with anxiety and bioenergetics as taught by Devaraj. All I can say is I've been doing Dev's exercises 4 or 5 times a week now for over a year and they have been completely transformative. I used to have horrific anxiety (derealization, depersonalisation etc), and although I was over the worst of that by the time I started bioenergetics (wim hoff breathing and cold exposure, and karate with a proper Japanese teacher) I most certainly was far from over it. In my own wide ranging journey I have not found a better resource than Dev's channel. As I said, I've had over a years worth of excercises..... and I 've never payed a penny for it. I've read Lowen's books, and yes, they are very interesting, but actually of little practical value to my mind. "Getting better" is not something you read about, talk about or think about, it is something you do... at least that is very much my experience!

jibberer I definitely agree. When I was going through problems with anxiety I was trying every technique under the sun to try and help and the biggest help was bioenergetics, and I still use it to this day, not religiously but every other day for release.
I also agree that Dev’s channel is very helpful, I don’t know enough about the history of the subject to comment but I don’t see anyone else covering these things and I don’t see anything bad about the purpose of this channel.

Thank you guys. I'm happy to hear how these exercises are working for you.
I know my stuff is good, because I've been working directly with people as a therapist for over a decade. Most classes I run are actually comprised of around 30% therapists and others working in the care industry! A lot of psychology pros are very interested in what Bio and my approach has to offer, to them and to their clients.

@@jibberer I know this comment is a while ago but was wandering why you thought karate was beneficial for your anxiety? Are you still doing it?I’m thinking of taking up a martial art myself but not sure which one so just curious
