Yeah but it lacks the fire rate and accuracy because of the heavy trigger pull. Lcp is effortless and stays on target. Imo

I've owned all three. The only one I have still and love is the TCP 738. Great little gun for what I use it for. It does not like FMJ ammo or Steelcase Russian ammo. It will however fire Hornady self-defense rounds all day long without issue.
I use it as a pocket carry or for days when my CZ is just too much to carry for where I'm going or what I'm doing that day. I love the long smooth trigger pull and also how concealable it is. If I pull the trigger it shoots. Every time. And without fail

I have two of these…reliable and accurate! Bought on the recommendation of a former LEO and current range owner. It is the easiest to carry anywhere and anytime, I have holsters to work in all conceivable clothing situations (I’m female). I have a few carry options, but this is the one I can conceal easiest, and it’s light weight.

I own the LCP 2, and it is a great shooting handgun. It definitely takes some practice to shoot it accurately beyond 5 yards due to its small size and light weight. I painted the front sight neon orange to help it stand out.

I’ve owned all three and have to say the LCP II has the others beat in terms of shoot-ability, ease of carry & reliability. The Taurus has a serious trigger short stroke problem that could be dangerous in a confrontation. My S&W BG developed light strike problems after two years of absolute reliability. I also own both LCP models and they have been 100% w/FMJ and hollow point ammo. The trigger on both LCP models measures 7.5 to 8 lbs on my trigger scale, but the reset on the LCP II is much crisper making follow up shots easier and more accurate.

My LCP 1.5 hates some hollow points. They jam up on the feed ramp. Otherwise it's a good gun.

Is there a way of tweaking the heavy trigger pull on the Bg u know of?? It's ridiculous for follow up shots like you said. Yeah it works on the range if u squeeze slowwwwly while aiming till u hit the sweet spot then boom 💥. But then gotta do it all over again 5x? Smh in real life that's too much time wasted.

The bodyguard light strike problem is a real thing. Still 4 years after your post Its still a common problem. As long as you use soft primer ammo like Federal you should be 100% fine.

The laser to me is a gimmick and not applicable in the sense of THIS gun for practical defense use. The absence of the thumb safety is an appeal to me based on my training and personal preferences. I’m telling you this because they tell me the TCP is the most reliable pocket .380 in their rental case. Their renter has over 10,000 rounds through it with no breakages. None of the other contenders can claim that. The SIG P238 is, however, a close runner up (one in-house repair). The Ruger LCP, known as a stout little gun, comes in third (with a warranty trip or two). But the others don’t seem to like high round counts and rental-type abuse.

Thing is the TCP has/had a common issue where the slide release tab inside the fram was too big and the bullets being chambered would get caught by the tab failing to feed. I'm unsure if it was ever fixed in QC. I fixed this for my father by taking a small file to the metal tab, rounding the corners and removing material. It is an easy fix, with multiple how-to videos on UA-cam, but a fatal flaw in it's construction and QC. I do however really like Taurus, I just bought a G2C for a subcompact carry option. They also have a limited lifetime warranty and good customer support. They really nailed it with the G2-G3C series but everything I mentioned above about the TCP is important when considering the purchase.

Love the size of my LCP2 (.380) I've been carrying it IWB, but until I drop a few lbs, it's just not that comfy given my short torso. I may go back to pocket carry - and I'm perfectly happy with that, as well as the included pocket holster. Great for wearing shorts (we're pretty warm here in Austin, so shorts are the dress of choice for most of us. It's obviously snappy, but time spent at the range has dramatically improved my shot placement.
All that said, I also got myself a P365 for those times when I want more power and capacity.
I did a lot of research, as I always do, and the LCP2 was the easy winner with all things considered. I would not say the same thing about any other versions of the LCP, unless Ruger comes out with a new version. Only thing that jumps to mind would be the sights, but as mentioned, all of these are point and shoot in defensive mode, so careful aiming would be more for the range. That said, I put dabs of neon yellow nail polish on the front sight and on the internal hammer.
I originally bought mine for my wife, but that was a mistake. She's just not comfortable with it. For her, we'll stick with revolvers for home defense, and pepper spray for her purse.
    Just my .02

Don't know if anyone said anything, but you lock the slide to the rear on the tcp for break down and reassembly. You don't have to hold it like that. And all you do is shake the bbl down to put it in place for the reassembly. I sold my first one and regretted it. It was the ss slide came with two mags and the bulldog case. Never had an issue with it. Bought the second used and on got one factory mag and no case. Both have been flawless. Kinda funny reading the snobs reading the snobs and their comments. And magpro mags suck.

I’ve owned all three and presently carry the original, second generation, LCP b/c it has been 100% reliable and is pretty easy to shoot. The S&W was my favorite but developed light strike problems after about a year so I let it go. The Taurus trigger was too light, less then 4 lbs measured, and not safe enough IMHO for pocket carry/self defense. Heavier triggers are a safety measure in a self defense gun and something I’m used to from being a long time revolver shooter.

Old Cop you are a wise man. I also use the LCP second generation, for the same safe trigger feel, and also it shoots anything n everything reliably. However I just bought a RM380 Remington, and so far it's as reliable as the Ruger, and way more comfortable in the hand. 😎

I carry both w/the factory 7 round mag to help w/my big hands & accuracy out to 10 yards and it does not compromise pocket carry. The measured trigger pull on both guns is 7.5#.

Also LOVE my TCP. Runs everything - even cheap crap ammo like Tula and Monarch steel cased. I actually enjoy using this as a range gun and run at least 100 rounds every range visit. Super reliable and easy to carry and conceal - it's my EDC now. I wonder if all the bad reviews about FTFs are for te older models. Mine's a 2017 series D production run.
Buds has this for $158 now; thinking of getting another one to stash away in another place in the house.
Better than the LCP2, which has unnecessarily snag-prone higher sites, it's SOA (and you can't see the hammer to be able to tell if you're cocked), has that unnec pinky extension curve (why not just make it flush and add a round?), unnec serrations on the front of the slide for overhand when slingshotting is better/safer, and the trigger is a dual weight - I prefer the same pull throughout; and that mag release isn't imbedded so it's more prone to accidental pressing esp when the gun jumps. Just my own preferences though. For those who like it, hey, more power to ya - just keep on carrying, fellow 2A-ers!

CCW Noob Couldn't agree more with you on the TCP. I mix up my EDC gun depending on the situation and where I'm going but I find myself carrying the TCP more and more. I would say 80% of the time. The rest of the time it's the PT111 G2 (Another fantastic Taurus gun). The TCP is just so darn comfortable and easy to carry. Fits in pocket so easily. I added a Pachmayer grip glove and a Garrison mag extension and it still easily fits in the pocket of any pants or shorts i have. I could now shoot that gun all day long at the range with those two little additions! Mine eats any ammo I put thru it as well. Can't say the same for my Curve though. That lgun is very picky especially with HP's. Safe shooting!

Not that you would be using the sights in a real-life situation, but they're not very visible at all. Also the mag release button is positioned right where your thumb goes. Adriana Kuzmikova I just got a Remora Pocket holster for mine 25.00. I don't like the one it came with from Ruger it's not sticky enough and likes to come out with the gun! You shouldn't have to worry about it going off in your pocket. Especially in the Remora or Sticky holster. The padding is thick enough to prevent it from firing. Yes the trigger safety is a drop safety, it prevents the gun from firing when dropped. If you really want an ankle holster look at the bugbite. I believe it's made by SneakyPete. They also sell a holster that rides on the outside on your belt that basically looks like a cellphone case or something. It's a good option to consider if you don't want to pocket carry. Good Luck!

I'm intrigued as to just how shootable pocket carry 380's are compared to full sized service pistols. Are they really limited to engagements in the 5-7 yard range? Could an AVERAGE shooter effectively use them out to, say, 20 yards?
I've managed to shoot a m1911A1 on several occasions. How accurate and shootable are these 380's compared to service pistols like the m1911?

Yes, the Glock 42 (.380 ACP) is a neat gun. It should have been in the video above.
My personal problem with it is very unfortunate for me as it is reliable & very, very concealable.
The Problem: My hands are XL so the gun's grip is too small & my finger placement on the trigger is awkward. Hence I shoot the *slightly bigger* Glock 43 (9mm) much better.
So I may sell my best concealable gun, the Glock 42 only because it is what it's suppose to be: *small.*

@@bking12762 True. However, some people feel more comfortable with a safety. I also have both a Ruger LC9s and LC9s pro. The regular LC9s has a thumb safety which is easily disengaged if you train yourself. The 'pro' has no safety. Because this pistol has a very light trigger, I prefer to pocket carry the regular LC9s. The market has spoken. Ruger no longer makes the LC9s pro, but they still make the LC9s. By the way, the LC9s can also be pocket carried, although it requires a larger pocket. It has a longer sight radius that the Ruger LCP 2 and I find it easier to shoot accurately. it also uses 9mm, which is easier to find than .380.

I have a Taurus TCP and an ORIGINAL Ruger LCP. I started having problems with the Taurus jamming. It would jam when racking the slide and also while firing. I could not find anything wrong with it, and haven't had it looked at yet. I bought the original LCP about 2 years ago to replace it. I put about 20 rounds a month through it. So far no issues. I have fired the LCPII, and actually prefer the trigger on the LCP. Yes, it is heavier and has a longer pull. But remember this is NOT a target pistol. In a self defense situation, you are going to have a lot of adrenaline pumping, and pulling that trigger is not going to be a problem. And if is safer when carrying with a round in the chamber, as I always do. Everybody seems to be falling all over themselves praising the LCPII, and putting down the original LCP. I have fired both, and still prefer the original LCP for concealed carry self defense use. The trigger on the LCPII is a bit more precise, but that makes no difference in a life or death situation.

    - 16 oz loaded with standard flush fit factory magazine in the pistol.
    - Ankle or pocket carry. Ideally both.
    - Under 1.2" thick at the maximum
    - Barrel length not to exceed 4"
    - .380 caliber only.

Nice video. I have the S&W and The LCP II. The safety on the S&W is redundant. With a trigger heavy like that, you really don't need a thumb safety. As far as the LCP II goes, I have a different opinion. If you look at the LCP first generation, the hammer had a half way position when you rack the slide. So, when you pulled the trigger on that one, the hammer would travel the other half back and then released. The LCP II, as well mentioned by you, it is just a release, because it is a pretty much a single action, like an 1911. Because of that, in my humble opinion, the LCP II should have a thumb safety. My LCP II takes less than you mentioned, on my scale, to release that hammer. around 4 pounds. The Glock trigger is not just a release.

Some will say it’s just a matter of training. With that pistol it is not, believe me. If you want a round on the chamber get a real DA pistol or carry a 1911ish gun with a thumb safety. I don’t have this concern with my Keltec P32, 380. You want something even safer? Go for a J-frame. for me. the dbl action trigger on the Taurus is a plus. I am a wheel gun lover. The Taurus is capable of allowing the shooter to hand the hammer on the first shot for precise aiming. The rest of the rounds are like a striker fire gun. Point pull the trigger until you want it to fall then BANG. Then all following rounds are like any striker fire shots. Very comfortable & accurate. On the S&W, I found the trigger gritty & hard. The Ruger does not have a second strike ability. My choice is the Taurus PT738; but who cares what I think? I surely don't care what you think. That is just life. It is nice that he got into the break down of the guns, but, who cares! If you are in a combat situation. All of us are not going to break down our guns in a combat fight!! I'm kind of looking for a beater that has no sentimental value or prestigious ownership characteristics. One you can take fishing with you and if it takes a drink, so what. One that can be heavily sweated on in 90+ degree weather, knocked around and beaten up.
Out of the three in the video I would choose the Ruger LCP II over any other for that purpose. I'm a GLOCK guy so you can imagine how much I hate S&W M&P pistols. The only thing I will own in S&W are revolvers, and I have a bunch. Taurus has made pure junk since the mid 90s after they quit putting them in the black box with yellow/gold logo and print. Look at a old model 85 and look at a new one. If you can't tell the difference you can't pass your vision test to get your drivers license and it should be revoked.
The Ruger LCP and LCP II sure beat the hell out of a Jennings J-22 for a beater pistol......TRUST ME, I KNOW!

Keep that in mind when shopping for Taurus handguns.
You want a pre mid 90's model in a black box with yellow/gold print and logo.

Well, I now own a Ruger LCP 2. After typing my first reply I was thinking about one again. I knew a local shop has them on sale this week for $279 + tax.
I now own one of those too! :D
Also, the pics you see on the internet and the UA-cam videos make it appear to be full on "tactitard" or a "Batman" design. In person it is more subtle and they look much much better in person. Overall build quality is very good and I even noticed a steel guide rod instead of that flimsy toothpick thin polymer one these types of cheapo pocket pistols have. As always, I removed the retarded bugger hook finger extension on the magazine and installed the flush fit one. You don't need that if you practice weekly and know how to shoot ANY pistol, not just one of these micros. It's strictly a training issue and by the time people get done adding all this shit to their pocket guns, they might as well just bought a midsize pistol.
I think I am going to hit the front sight with some white sight paint to help visibility even though these LCP 2 sights are far superior to the LCP. I like the fact they give you a pocket pistol holster in the box for free even though it isn't my normal brands I usually use. This one will work for now until I wear it out.
What this all boils down to is this is a great under $300 beater that will see things my other seven never will........I'm gonna shoot the hell out of it to make it prove itself way before I ever dream of carrying it and trusting my life to it. I do this with every pistol I own, so this is no different here. I'm also a master reloader with over 25 years experience. This pistol will never see a single round of factory "practice ammo"....only SD factory ammo.
      Happy John

My TCP trigger is 4.5lbs. Very nice, and smooth. He's lying...or.....making things up, without actually testing, with a trigger pull gauge.
