- This is a table top review and comparison of the Ruger LCP II in .22LR and the Ruger LCP II chambered in .380ACP. This is a spec comparison of the two... If you are considering either of these two as your next carry option, this may help you learn the difference. Thanks for watching!
Have it in .380- love it. Getting its littler brother in .22 as soon as the mad rush is over. Great review as usual- thanks
Ditto
Just got the 22 for my wife a couple days ago.... now I want one, with a threaded barrel upgrade.
lol now its another mad rush
"as soon as the mad rush is over" Lol ok you'll be waiting for a year
@@jasondeckardude6045 I accidentally bought one I thought i ordered a 380 and i was all pissed off but it seems like they are better than the 380?
As a new shooter I enjoy the LCP II 22lr and have gone through multiple shooter training sessions and various shooting drills with stationary and moving targets. While I am still somewhat slow drawing & shooting from a concealed holster in 1.5 sec I am reliably (with multiple hits) engaging the various targets (incl. hostage taker targets) with the LCP II 22lr. Also enjoy shooting my wife's P17 or her TX22.
The dollar bill size reference is really cool I’m looking at this video trying to find a small but effective low recoil hand gun to get my wife into shooting and trying to find a gun that fits her hands while not holding very many hand guns in my life time it’s been hard to judge the size of the guns compared to peoples hand as they vary in shape and size but the dollar is the same rectangle it’s always been. Good idea it needs to catch on more it’s an excellent reference 👍🏼
Great option I carry one sometimes and have used it (22lr) version in a situation. I'm a huge fan of it. Went well for me
So glad I had the 22 that day, cuz my normal 9mm/357 winter carry were at home. Threat stopped and bonus that persons went to jail alive so no lengthy non-sense for us. Had the 357 come out poor guy would be in half. Ended enough lives in the army, glad that it was another however I'd defend my family again in a heart beat. Love plinking this thing to
A good gun. I also have a Walther P22. An excellent gun. Single/double action.
Viability of the 380 has been proven by Paul Harrell on his UA-cam channel. It will blow through a meat target, and the damage is phenomenal.o
Odee Dillon Correct! Paul Harrell’s meat target comparing the.380 to a 9 MM in the same sized pistol made me a believer in the .380. Rim fired cartridges just are not that reliable..
Does a .380 sound very unique? For example I notice more of a solid echoing pop that just sounds like a hard thud. Its very chilling actually.
Agree, I’m comfortable carrying my LCPII loaded w/Federal 90 grain HP, and actually enjoy shooting it.
@Stefano Dawg Advancements in other weapons and ammunition, mainly. That and the need to carry more rounds. I'd rather have a .357, 44mag, 10mm etc. against a drug-crazed maniac than a .380 or 9mm, but we're poorer than the government's police and military (even in other countries) and the need to have a gun concealed, and thus have a smaller gun, makes us less of a target. Everyone knows the local cop has a gun on him...
my two cents.
I Agree. I'm No Expert But I Think Paul Harrell Is & His Meat Target Comparisons Are More Definitive Than Ballistic Gel.
I would carry the LCP ii in .22LR if I had to. I currently own one in .380, However, my experience with .22LR even in a reliable firearm, is that the round is more likely to fail to fire than a centerfire pistol round. Buying quality ammo and making sure it functions reliably through your firearm is a must if you intend to use it for self defense. Even then, I would practice clearing the chamber until it becomes second nature.
Yup I unload and reload my gun every day just for fun. But it makes me confident in handling it too. I think everyone should mess with their guns more (safety rules applied) so they get comfortable.
Thank you for this!
It seems like we the gun community are walking ourselves right back to the benefits and ease of the 25acp. I'd like to see the lcp 2 chambered in the 25 and 32 acp.
Would like to see the Ruger max in a 32 acp with 10, 12, and 15 shot magazine 👍💯 already like the 22 lr in 10 round but they should make a 12 and 15 for it, and
Like the 380 max with the 10 and 12 round magazines,, already have a 9 mm with two 12 and two ( supposed to be 15 round magazines) but they can function with 16 rounds in the magazines plus one in the tube,it's one of my back up Pistols for my
357 sig Glock 33 gen3
Great presentation is just subscribed. I just bought the 22 version.
I am surprised Ruger does not make these a little more ergonomic for the safety and for lefties. Bang out of the park with the small 10 round 22 though a much larger round magazine would sell like crazy. People love to shoot a 22.
I think round count is seriously underestimated as an important factor to manufactures. Many of us when picking up a pistol the first thing we think of is round count and how that limits our defensive punches. A small 22 like this with 15 to 20 rounds would be fantastic. But fix the safety and ambidextrous issue.
Need a bigger gun for that capacity
Just yesterday handled lcp22 and that safety is strangely not difficult to manipulate.
@@zelenizub2036 ..........as long as you are RIGHT HANDED. The last time Ruger gave any shits about lefties was the 85 (and ONLY because the Army demanded it)
. 22lr doesn't feed well when its not a straight stack.
@@Funhaus_Ryan The rim has a bigger diameter than the rest of the case. A curved mag would be preferable, but that would make a terrible grip for a handgun. As long as the rim of the upper round is in front of the rim of the one under it, it shouldn't be a problem tough.
Grabbing an LCP 2 for my current trainer/future backup. You have sold me on the 22. Grooves, rack, safety, capacity! 🔥 I'm disabled and eventually going with the S&W Equalizer to carry.
I'll wait for the Ruger
LCP II in 32 ACP
How many other people would be interested in a 32 ACP?
.32ACP is a fun cartridge, but for self defense I wouldn't want it.
I would love a .32 acp because all I would need is ball ammo for self defense and it’s fun to shoot. Also stronger that .22lr.
Thank you so much for this! I've got experience with revolvers, but I don't know anything about semi-autos. I'd printed off the spec sheet for the .380, but now that I've seen this I'm going to get the .22LR. Very informative for a noob like me, I appreciate it!
by far one of the best reviews I have seen regarding firearms.
Thanks for your post. Your comment regarding the 22 LR for training is spot on. That alone was the primary reason I picked it up as an economical way to practice compared to the LCP II 380.
Neat little shooter! Same size and weight as the LCP will make a great range gun with a box of 22 LR instead of 380 ammo prices. My 380 is just for pocket protection with hollow points not for practice on range. I will still carry the 380 when riding in the desert or bush on MT bike. Many wild dogs out there need to be coyote lunch!
Nice review! Rather they would have gone 32ACP vs Kel-Tec P32. Think they would sell many.
I love my .380! I have carried it every day for a year now and it is very easy to carry and shoot. That being said, i wouldn't carry anything smaller than a .380. .22 might be fun for plinking though. Thanks for the review.
Very good review sir, and do believe the .22 will become a part of my collection before the end of the year.
@Ken Elliott don't worry about me! You just worry about yourself son!
them guns are so close even though 380 is not my favorite i would have to go with that for a ppw ..not going to be looking for 50 yards out of it more like 50 feet or less.. i like both
More like 20 feet. The 380 is accurate. But takes time to sight in at more that 20 feet. I've shot 1000 rounds out of mine. Federal hst 99 is it's best friend. Has great penetration at close range.
A very good review. I have an M&P .22 pistol , but by golly i carry a .38 revolver 5 round, daily as my everyday pocket carry. I have a Bursa .380 Thunder which always stove pipes ,...no .22 i own ever stove pipes.
Chrome top/slide/two tone,
2mags each (1 for cc/ext 4 HD)
All for under 500 out the door I'm in!
Ps. It'll be nice if they sold aftermarket/extended barrels for suppressors, etc
The dollar bill for size comparison is a nice touch. The mag disconnect and way the safety works is not good.
I just got the lcp2 .22 for the lady. I went and shot 200-300 rounds and it's amazing. The trigger, accuracy everything. My carry is a Bodyguard and I imagine I'll soon get lcp2 in 380. The trigger is just bounds better
The .380 extended mag holds 7 rounds. As to price I paid $269 for my .380 model last year and they’ve probably gone down since then.
Or rather gone up with this garbage the last year.
For just caring the non extended mag obviously is nice, however the control gained on shooting the extended mag is worth it. Cant recommend it enough if you hate shooting your .380. I pretty much hated this gun until I got the extended mag. jmo
Very well explained and helpful, thanks for taking the time to do this.
great review..thanks...I've been wanting that .22 for a couple weeks and this just sealed the deal! I have so many boxes of .22LR I can't wait to plink. Thanks
Thanks for the speedy presentation. A lot of these reviews take forever.
Nicely done Chris. Been looking to get the LCP II .22 for awhile now. I think its the perfect carry/conceal...
Did you ever get it? I heard they're really prone to light strikes.
@@jedifam66
No
I needed to fix my truck instead
I carry the .380. I am having a bit of a problem with rust. I use the holster it came with. That's the only complaint I have about it.
How long have you had it and Do you keep a light coat of gun oil on it?
The only guns that don't rust from me carrying in the summer when I'm sweaty is the ones with non metal frames.
Fyi. These fit perfectly in the small pocket ( above large pocket) of Wrangler and Levi geans. Iv carried mine there for 2 years now without it ever falling out. Makes it real easy to carry without any extra bulk. Almost like it was designed for it.
What? The magazine?
my .22 ( 2022 Version) with not bulk cci ammo is 100% reliable so far ( using CCI AR Ammo and had done 220 shoots so far with no problems)
Nice technical video sir ! Pretty much helping me figure out what 22 I will get ! Thanks again
...extra magazines roughly $ 23 bucks each...found some on eBay and elsewhere...you can get them singly or in a two pack...
I ❤the safety mechanism one both and the recoil on .22. I think .22 is great for me. I want one.
Hello from Westport, In. Gonna have to make the trip up there to come check out the store. Great video. Huge Ruger fan
I just bought the 380 and my cousin sent me a picture a couple hours later of his 22 LR lol
What have been your thoughts, thus far? I am having trouble to deciding between the .380 and the .22.
Thank you for doing a size comparison between the .380 and the .22! I want to buy an iwb/aiwb Tulster Holster for my .22 but they only have it available for the .380 so I'm hoping it will fit. The only concern I have is that the .22 has a manual safety and the .380 doesn't so I don't know if it will get snagged or not.
How did the holster work out for you?
@@12yearssober I didn't get it bc the manual safety goes forward for on and back for off instead of up on and down off so you would have to pull the gun away from you when drawing so it doesn't catch on the safety and I felt if you were in a situation that would just be another step to remember.
@@sandyweeks5302
Thanks for sharing this!! I’m thinking about getting the.22 just for out in the woods and personal protection.
@@12yearssober you're very welcome! It's a great little pistol. For now a sticky holster which is good is probably your best bet unless you find something good that works then please let me know then.
22lr is way underrated by most Americans. Test show mixed result but o assure you, as someone who's been in combat (army) and a self defense situation the 22lr is very effective if you know how to shoot. People saying it's not haven't ever been in a real situation so let me tell you it works. And place data can back up how effective 22 can be. It's cheap and fun ti plink to of course best of both for me. I actually carry a 357 but I didn't have it that day XD
I had the old lcp then upgraded to new lcp2 in 380 when first released. I also have a Springfield xd mod2 45acp subcompact. I edc the lcp2 more often since so small and light. Love the lcp2 also like it in .22lr!
@@Jordan-fn9fz sweet, just got a hellcat osp. Can't wait to shoot it. I love my 22s. I have a ruger 10/22 that I shoot often
I had an LCP .380 and while it was nice, the ammo costs for .380 if you can find is not worth it right now to me at least. A Ruger EC9 gives you a couple of more rounds, stronger bullet, (9mm), great price, cheaper ammo and, availability. The cheaper ammo helps to properly train and break in your gun.
To pull the pin I have found a polymer channel cleaner works and won’t scratch the gun.
Got the 22 LR and love it 😀.
Just got mine in 22lr last week. Having an issue finding a kydex holster for it
I have an lcp 2 like in the thumb nail. The coating/paint or whatever it is comes off pretty easy on the frame. So I'd suggest you get black If you care about that stuff.
Great comparison. These are both great pocket pistols. You certainly know how to get to the point quickly. I just subscribed.
Excellent review and comparison. Thanks a lot for sharing!
Now that we have both 22lr and .380 from exact same pistol can we please compare ballistics and see if 22LR will make a decent ccw compared to the .380!!!
I really want the lcp2 in 22. I have the 380 version. Just need the 22 for my collection.
I have both, love it...and the 22 feels like the .380 and with 380 ammo in short supply or very expensive the 22 really helps.
I also really want a Ruger lcr in 9mm too. 😁. Wish I would've bought it s few months back when the gun shop near me had one
@@yellowveedub those should be available since I believe they’re not in high demand
@@candet7882 I just got the 22lr version last week and I'm going around n around with several holster makers about fit. Could you tell me if you know, does the 22lr fit in a 380 kydex? I thought the guns were identical size except the safety on the 22lr. One company told me the difference was in the frame length n trigger guard. Thanks in advance for any info you could share
This was very thorough. Thank you!
Will get one in 22lr soon. I dislike snappy little guns so the 380 is out.
I have the Beretta bobcat 22lr and a Beretta tomcat 32acp. Both with popup barrels. A similar pair. 32 almost as big as 380 ammo.
Should have used the 1911 swipe safety if manufacturer puts a safety on the pistol. Once the safety is swiped down, keep the thumb high and on the safety. Helps to control the recoil as well as a better grip for sighting.
Oh boy,,, this is fun! I will suffer thru it. Hahaha Ruger 22 is the magical FLAGSHIP model.
Thanks for a great video. I like the cocking ears on the 22. Are the slides interchangeable? From price point, I got the 380 for $199, I'm sure 22 deals will follow. I've always been Leary of a single action hammer fired gun with no safety. But not too crazy about the magazine disconnect. Interested to see if Ruger will make the next version of 380 with ears and safety.
Sounds like you might have gotten the LCP 380 for 199, the LCP 2 380 are still around 300
Are the barrels interchangeable?? I have the 380 version I would get a 22 barrel and mags to just shoot cheaper at the range if possible that would be cool or change it to 22 for first time shooters then once they're ok with recoil switch it back to 380
Fine tools indeed EDC’s every carrier needs RUGER is begging to get thing right once again & I like them both the .22 LR & .380 🕶🙂💵💵😎
Great review just ordered the 380
I carry my .22 around the house in my pocket. Working to find ammo that functions reliably. The .380 will be my next purchase.
Remington Thunder Bolts. Remington Golden Bullet hollow points.
...saw a few here and there at central Texas gun shows in January 2020...3 at one show and 2 at another...they're scarce for now...hard to find at suppliers....prices I saw at the shows was $ 299-319. MSRP is $ 349....
@Stefano Dawg ....wow, great price...I have a couple of those...great also...
So I can fit the same grip on either gun?
Hi please tell me if you have tried Sellier and Bellot ammo in it. Thanks
I can carry my gx4 all day in my pocket and forget it’s there but when I wear jeans I carry my lcp 2 380 and also forget it’s there both guns function flawlessly
That pair looks terrific!
I have the impression that were no mentions about the manual safety in the 22 model...
Horrible ccw, my fiancé bought one and it was her first gun some woman at buds convinced her it was what she needed. I get that the gun could be great as a home defense weapon. But the gun only has a “striker” safety which can be ok but I wouldn’t recommend it for a woman or someone carrying in a purse or backpack or anything for obvious reasons. The gun has no internal safety that anyone that I’ve talked to can find, normally there’s an inner firing pin safety but once the gun is cocked the firing pin is set at 90%. Also the slide is really difficult for a woman to pull back and numerous times I saw her try and pull the slide back with an empty mag and the slide didn’t catch and went back to firing position. Now here’s the thing, any one of those problems alone makes a gun bad, but add all 3 and you have something dangerous. The slide problem coupled with a safety for instance from me personally messing with the gun I heard the firing pin release numerous times while just cocking it to break in the spring. Obviously if it had chambered a round it would have fired. Now that could have been just a default in the gun but I doubt it because even in the manual it stresses to not carry chambered and the gun may go off if dropped meaning. The lack of internal safety makes it where the slide being released and not slowly lowered back can cause a discharge. So what I did was the next day contacted buds and they told me they’d give me used price for the gun which was a joke but I understand. Then we went to a gun store I personally picked and they gave me 90% of what I paid and sold her a new m&p ez 380 and I personally love this gun. So moral of the story buy an m&p ez if you want a 380. It’s 30-50$ more and a much better gun in every way.
There's things I would like to know! First are springs interchangeable? And are they the same length? Have you tried using the 380 lcp spring on the 22lr?! Also are the magazines same length and width? Do the bottom part to magazine be interchangeable? They sell extensions for 380 lcp. And I bought different brands. One of my favorite is hyve +2 extension. If the 22lr can use same bottoms extension to magazines I'll definitely buy! Of you can answer any of these questions I'd appreciate it.
Awesome video. Great info! 👍
Hey hey would be cool to see an updated vid on the LCP max love the vids
Have both guns and love both of them. I shoot the .380/.22 and my daughter shoots the .22 she likes it to but would rather shoot her M&P.22
Great video as always. I love the dollar bill trick. Looking for 1st pocket carry.... between the LCP II and Smith Wesson Bodyguard, any professional input appreciated.
Great review, I've been considering both models. I wish the 380 had more capacity.
very good comprehensive review thanks
Great education. Thank you. I own both.
Great introduction very easy to follow. Thank you 👍❤👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Sure wish they made a 22 mag!
@Stefano Dawg better ignition and less fowling the powder with loose bullets like 22lr.
Great review. But you missed one very interesting thing. Both serial numbers start with 380.
I noticed that as well...
Excellent review, thanks
Does the dollar test still work if you only have a $5?
No its 5 times more. Not even a close comparison.
The magazine disconnect is a big deal-breaker. Initial reports on reliability are not very promising, either. TFB TV was shooting decent ammo (CCI Stingers and Mini-Mags, IIRC) and was having repeated malfunctions.
It’s too bad. A reliable .22 pocket pistol would be a lot more shootable than a .380 with better magazine capacity.
Fake news..
22 Plinkster blew TFB TV's review out the water... and the cherry on top - hit a target 100 yards away with this gun...
.22 pocket pistols are known for spotty reliability.
@Stefano Dawg How is the manual safety useless and dangerous?
spent 2000 rounds easily through mine and had a handful of malfunctions mostly with my brothers cheap ammo. I think he just had a defective model to be honest. I dont have a problem.
Both will work in same holster?
What is the little hole on the 22lr version on the slide? It goes all the way through to the other side.
Please forget my previous post. The Ruger LCP2's are a very safe and do have the internal hammer safety that i missed seeing in my post-fantastic pistol-a best buy!
Anyone know if they will fit and interchange in the same kydex holster? I have the 380 as my carry gun. Wondering if I can use the same. Thanks! It’s a Vedder holster
I have a vedder pocket holster and it works with both.
My .22 mag only fits 8. I tried to force 9 and the spring got stuck >.>…
Great review! I wanted the new 22 until I saw it had a safety!
Do as i, leave safety off.
@Stefano Dawg Safeties aren't goofy
I wish my LCP II 380 had a safety! I hate not having one!
The safety is actually designed on a good way that as you draw, you can flock it forward easily, OR, when drawing, slide the gun against your belt or pants (or inside pocket) and it moves the safety into fire position.
For you, which one do you think is better ?
Great review thanks
Excellent vid, Chris.
Carrying ruger lcpII 380 for self defense
.380 ammo is to damn expensive...
....I know and I hate that factor...
RELOAD!
@@windydrifter7633 Not everybody has the time or space to reload. Also, would you trust your own reloaded ammunition as a defensive round?

Carrying ruger lcp ii for defense
You said frame was same on both guns. Could you swap magazines & slides. In other words does the 22LR slide and magazine work on the frame that came with the 380. Or vice versa. I love your videos. Hope to stop and thank you so day from Pennsylvania. Thanks.
...I i also wish they were convertible...would be great...
Good informative video, its was an honor meeting you this past Friday. Shalom
It was great meeting you as well. Thank you for taking the time to come in and check out the store!
Except he doesn't know the difference between a double action and a single action
My LCP 380 is very dependable, if I miss the noise knocks them down!
What ammo you pref for self defense? I really noticed hornady kick like a mule on this no accuracy
Too bad Ruger ruined with the a manual so-called "safety" lever and a magazine disconnect - neither of which the 380 version has or needs. Hey Ruger, how about a "Pro" version of the LCP II .22 with no mag disconnect or external safety lever?
Very nice review. Thanks
Hi. Is it possible to fire 380 in the 22 model (or viceversa) by switching the barrel and magazine?
Great review 👍
Anyone know if the 22 version is significantly quieter than the 380? Thx!
What?!
No Ruger LCP II .380 Talo Edition pvd Sapphire blue? Lol. I've seen those online but not in a video
I have a question ....silly maybe, I have the 380 version and had Doug Turnbull CCH the slide looks great. Will the 380 slide work on the 22 version ....thinking maybe the barrel diameter is the same? thank you.... do you or does anyone know.
Could you swap the slides to get a .380 with a safety?
No.
