Citizen of Rome here!! All state museums are free on the 1st Sunday of each month (mind you, the Vatican museums are not property of the Italian state)
If you want some night life you should probably visit the area of Trastevere, it's very scenic at night with the warm lights and the cobbled alleys. Lots of pubs and drunk people :)
If you want to try Rome's best carbonara you should probably go to Il Girasole in the Garbatella area. It's not a touristy area though, not much to see cause it's all residential, but you get the real Roman experience there.
If you have time and you have never been there you should go to Villa Borghese, it's a beautiful park with little lakes and statues and it's above Piazza del Popolo, it's very nice in the afternoon.
Mind your bags (especially on the subway) and have fun!! Much love

Hi Julia I’m an Italian follower of yours, since a year I think😅 Happy you’ll come here! About Rome u need to visit Vaticano, just San Pietro square is stunning (the cherry on top would be to go on the dome of the church and see the city from above). About restaurants just be aware that the best ones not allow reservations, so you need to actually go to the restaurant and wait in a queue, very often the queue are long unfortunately but it's worth the wait. To eat the carbonara I recommend you to go to the area of rome that is called "trastevere", there, any restaurant is very good for the carbonara and typical Roman food. one last thing! taxis in rome are very very cheap, don’t be afraid to use them.

I got a little second-hand stressed when you started talking about the itinerary omg like I totally get it though, when you’re in those areas you really do HAVE to have a plan.
If you’re wanting something more lowkey in Europe, I recommend staying away from any and all big cities.
The BEST vacation I’ve ever been on was just exploring the south of France (the Provence area). We played everything by ear, just kind of deciding what we wanted to do every morning and it was soooo low stress but we still saw a lot and did a lot and most importantly, relaxed a lot.
Haha i feel you but I think with the type of trip this is - planning was v necessary. I am also not the type of girl that likes to just go with the flow without a plan loll ❤️

I would recommend doing some research on Sicily and Greece specifically as to where in the area there are wildfires going on at the moment, so you can make sure that none of your experiences get cancelled due to smoke/active fire. That being said, I hope you have a fantastic time on your cruise :)

Athens is very metropolitan besides the ruin in the city, so I wouldn’t feel sad missing it. Santorini and Mykonos are AMAZING! Mykonos is more of the party place! I’m in Europe currently, and Netherlands was FULL of European cruise ships so I think it’s becoming quite trendy, should be fun! Sounds like an amazing honeymoon!

My top 2 recommendations for restaurants in Rome are Mr. Clood Bistrot and Luciano. They have some of the most amazing unique and delicious pastas!
You should do a golf cart tour in Rome. Me, my sister & mom did one and I highly recommend it. We were able to see so much in just a few hours, so convenient and not tiring.

Julia, if your only free day to visit the Colosseum is the first Sunday of the month, I strongly recommend that you show up to stand in line as early as 7 am. I am sure that already at that time there will be a lot of people. Then it is better to go in the morning because being a place where there is not even a shadow visiting it during hot hours will be hell. In Rome you can't breathe, temperatures well reach 40 degrees celsius, in the morning at least it is still a little cool.
Ugh i know but unfortunately our plane doesn’t even land in Rome until 9 AM so we have to go later in the day. We probably won’t be at our hotel until 10:30/11
Do you know asmr October? She lives in NYC, fun person. She's the queen of cruising, did a post with tips. But one thing she said is get a balcony for sure, it makes all the difference. That's a beautiful part of the world. If I were in Rome , I'd want to see the trevi fountain. This is a post I saved on Instagram about a spot on it

I had a layover in Istanbul, Turkey.( they are Heavy smokers there 🤢 ) but I would recommend doing a hot air balloon if the area you are going to offers it! It truly beautiful! I did a sunrise one in Morocco!
Not the area we are going but i did hear that hot air balloons are a thing there! I would be too scared to do that though prob lol

So happy for you coming to Europe, I was trying to think of some top tips for travelling in Europe or the UK...culture wise, obviously Europe and the UK are very Historic and are very proud of their culture, its not a thing I think most Americans get, I totally understand that the US isn't that Historic in the grand scheme of things, I've lived there and have family on the East Coast, I understand that because of the lack of history Americans compensate by going crazy at resorts and vacations, getting drunk and being rowdy, doing shots etc whats wrong with that??? nothing!..that's the majority of their behaviour, they have a reputation for being loud, and its the fact that they dont understand culture so they automatically trash it..I don't think that's fair though because there are a few who try to be a bit more educated and cultured, just like you Julia, you're different.
Anyway, my advice going to Europe/UK is to be a bit more appreciative of the rich History, culture, class and the like, because you probably won't be able to afford a honeymoon/vacation like this again with the way the economy is at the minute.
I hope you have an absolutely wonderful time, it will be a perfect honeymoon for a perfect couple.
P.s. if the boat is a "downside" I don't think it's a good idea you go on a cruise 😂😂😂😂😂

I think it's a good thing for you two to be alone together for a while, and kind of being forced to behave differently from what you'd normally do with regards getting wasted at night time and having a strict schedule, my sister did sort of the same thing after she got married, she had to do a scheduled honeymoon, she said she was being dragged kicking and screaming in to her 30s, having to properly settle down before starting a family, you all can't start a family and carry on partying like 21yr olds I told her...she wasn't happy hearing the awful truth 😂😂😂😂😂😂 you will have had the fairytale wedding, and look forward to the fairytale marriage❤❤❤
Also I'm not sure you'll be able to bring any of the local herb onboard the ship with you from Amsterdam, I think that's restricted to the cafes in the streets, you'll find it totally different to any smoke you'll have ever had in the US as there's menus of the different kinds of bud, but I hope you'll have had a good experience of that. I've seen some pics on Instagram and you both look amazing, wow!
I do think cruises don’t have the best rep. I’ve been telling my bf we should go on a cruise but he keeps saying they’re lame lol can’t wait to hear about ur experience. I’ve watched asmr october’s cruise videos and it sounds fun. I’ve never been on one tho

You might be pleasantly surprised by cruising as an adult vs as a child and how far the ships have come. They are literally a floating city. Give it a chance before you consider it a downside. Enjoy your honeymoon!

I have an AA card where i earn points but you have to spend a fuck ton to get a $2000 flight in points.. let alone 2 of them lol
My wife and I did our honeymoon in 2007 on Princess Cruise to Greece. Started in Venice and ended in Rome. It was pretty sweet. Have fun!!! Be safe!

As a UK Citizen, and as someone who has travelled the world, including most european countries. The thought of going on a cruise to "sight see" is not a good idea. You wont see anything other than ports. Of which, most things of significance are nowhere near the coast..
I would google the amount of time you have + European tour, Such as "3 week european tour itinery" and skip across a few countries.

I don’t understand how you say you like traveling when you won’t even drive 4 hours for one excursion. You like laying at a pool or sitting at a bar in various locations. Watch the movie triangle of sadness, people who only look to experience cultures throug this lens might benefit from perspective
I have seen that movie :) your take is a huge reach. We opted to do a tour to see the ruins of Ephesus. It’s close to our cruise port and looks like a really interesting site. I do also very much enjoy laying by a pool and sitting at a bar in various locations. I’ve made sure to have a good mix of that on MY vacation. What’s it to you?? Go drive 4 hours for all the excursions you like. Bizarre thing to comment to try & clown me over nothing lol
