That's so true about retail, most high end department stores I know have totally bitten the dust, and I think covid was the final straw for most of them.

Ahhhh this brings me back! I worked 3 jobs one year in university, and I remember taking a gap year and working mostly split shifts from 9-12 and 5-9 during the week and 12-9 on Saturdays. I still managed to go out all weekend and party, and have no idea how I managed looking back as a 43 year old. I have a great career with a M-F 8-4:30 schedule with lots of vacation, paid sick leave and benefits and I'm so appreciative of that. Whenever I go to stores, I'm always conscientious of service works, especially during the pandemic. It's hella hard work for shitty pay, so I don't get mad if they've screwed up. I wish I knew then what I know now, especially when a boss treats you poorly or put your safety at risk. I worked as a receptionist at a firm when I was in my early 20s, and the partners were awful human beings. I put in 5 weeks notice, and looking back I was crazy to do that. I'd definitely not put up with that shit now, and would stand up for myself. I can see why people don't when they're younger, or they can't risk being fired or they're a minority and are afraid to speak up. Glad you've worked to get where you are, and so glad you take extra work today these videos! 😊

Hey Julia. Your story reminds me of when I worked in McDonald’s during university. I started out on tills and once when I helped out in kitchen I realised that was so much better as you didn’t have to deal with shitty customers. So I asked for more kitchen training and would get so grumpy on the days when I was on tills for 9 hours 😅
Also I worked overnights during summer because they brought me down to 2 shifts per week until I agreed to sign the overnight working form 🙃

omg!!! i work at ulta and it’s just like this. we don’t get a break if we work 5 hours or less, but if we work 6-7 hours we get 2 15 min breaks and then if you work over 7 hours, you may or may not get a 30 min break. we have overnight shifts at least once a week and they’re scheduled 9pm-2am, but usually when i worked them, we would have to work till at least 3am. sometimes closer to 4. it was rough… let me tell u! 5am and 6am shifts were a thing for a while too. we also were not informed that it would be like that going into it. fortunately, I now have been promoted to a prestige position, so I work 11-6 or 12:30-7 shifts

I worked at my last job for 10 years out of necessity being a single mom and not really being able to find something better. In those 10 years I never felt validated or appreciated. On the contrary they always acted as if we could not be trusted. We also got an area manager that was a Sargent and just rude, it just made us hate our job when we could of been happy and more productive. After this person became our area manager I decided to quit a few months later, honestly the stress everytime she came into the office was not worth the pay. Not everyone can be a leader, and I'm glad I got to tell her she was not a good manager.
Now see these are the type of “ads” I can get behind, if it’s an asmr video asmrtists should get the option to have asmr ads then that way even if we are asleep by the middle of the video we won’t get scared awake lol but hey I’ll take Julia’s sponsors too all day 😍😍😍

I worked part time at Ulta when I was in college and it was also just “bullshit college money” for me. The store manager was also a crazy drill sargent that nobody liked and all the assistant managers ended up quitting because of her. She barely even gave me any hours because she didn’t like me and she knew I didn’t like her
Girl same, I worked at Ulta for a solid 3 weeks. So much bullshit for a retail job 😳 I had to report them to HR. I heard the managers whispering about how “the big girls are gonna do truck on Thursday. They can handle it.” And then I saw me and the two other obese girls on the schedule for unloading the truck. Not worth the mental abuse for $10 an hour 🤣
@@j.deluca8824 omg you brought back so many memories lol those truck days were so miserable we had them every Wednesday at like 5am and I would always be put on the schedule for them. I would work those shifts and then had to go to class when I get off. I also worked at some super upscale location at this mall called fashion island in Newport Beach, CA and the customers were terrible. I was also making like $10 an hour too because I think that’s what min wage was at the time in 2017. I was there for like 8 months and couldn’t wait to quit on that crazy manager
