  • Why did God give us four Gospels, ( Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John )? Why four Gospels, and what are the differences between the Gospels? When looking for contradictions in the Bible, some people turn to the 4 gospels. However, by understanding the synoptic Gospels and harmony of the Gospels one quickly learns that any supposed contradictions in the Bible can be easily explained. In this video, Pastor Nelson explains the difference between the Gospels, and answers the questions, why do we have 4 Gospels.

    For a long time i never read the gospels for myself, out of, id say, apathy.
    But now i listen to them on my way to sleep. I think even the socalled synoptic gospels are noticeably unique and interesting. There is really something special about them.
    matthew is my favorite, but i love that luke has the good samaritan and john has the water turned to wine. Eventually i want to commit to memory every unique attribute of each gospel

    It's because Jesus is love. Love is the truth. Love is the way to God. God is your heart and soul. With God anything is possible but you must believe in your heart to move that mountain.😊

    THE GOSPEL:
    1 Corinthians 15:1-4
    KJV Bible
    [1] Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
    [2] By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
    [3] For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
    [4] And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
    -------------------------
    Galatians 1:8-9
    KJV Bible
    [8] But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
    [9] As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

      Hi Philip,
      What it was said in the video is what the majority of the Bible commentators do believe… I hope that’s what you meant by your question

    Pastor Nelson is a great resource for helpful Bible answers! The only thing I would like to add is that when Jesus is called the Son of Man, it isn’t a claim to His humanity, but rather His divinity.
    Just look at these two passages:
    Daniel 7:13
    ““In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence.”
    ‭‭
    This is referencing the Messiah to come as the “Son of Man”!
    And Mark 14:61-62
    “Then the high priest asked Jesus, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?” “I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
    He quotes Daniel to confirm that He IS the messiah. Although the opposite is usually assumed (understandably), Son of Man is a claim to Jesus’ divinity! Amen.

    The answer is that he didn't. There were at least a dozen gospels including those by Mary, Peter, Judas, Thomas, Philip, etc until the 5th century. The issue is not contradictions but parallels. Why would four different eyewitnesses record the exact same events from three years? The endings of both John and Mark were added at a later date. Why would Matthew and Luke copy Mark but correct the errors?
    Mark calls Joseph of Arimathea a member of the Sanhedrin. But since he'd written all members condemned Jesus , Matthew changes him to a "rich young man". Mark calls Herod "king" but Luke & Matt change it to tetrarch (except Matt missed one and it alone stayed "king" - lol) . Mark has the stone placed by Joseph, Matt says it was guards, Luke is silent.

      Those dozens of Gospels are worth calling into question because a lot of those gospels and other Books of the Apocrypha were rejected because they aren't God Breathed, as in, they aren't written by the Prophets and Apostles moved by the Holy Spirit. Some of them (if not all of them) date centuries after Christ and the finishing of Revelation in around AD 95. The Bible we have today is complete and nothing was added or removed, there may be some verses added or missing depending on the translation but it's all very transparent and doesn't change the message at all.
      A lot of this stuff you say I'd argue also assumes we know they did copy off each other, having their endings being at a later date, etc. How can we know that unless we know what's actually true and what was before it to prove the frauds? So either what you say is true and you can't show the evidence or unwilling to, or what you say is false and it's just ways for humans to make excuses to not follow Christ and live for themselves, since Humanity's sin constantly attempts to deny and reject God and resist the Spirit's convictions. If what you say is true, then anyone can easily claim Christ didn't resurrect, but he did, for if he didn't, then it's all pointless. It says so right in the Bible itself 1 Corinthians 15:14.
      The Bible as we know it today is the canon with nothing added or removed. Extra biblical info can have wisdom and the Bible makes examples of that several times, but those "lost books" or the Apocrypha is regarded as false overall because they are not God Breathed. They were rejected for that reason. 2 Timothy 3: 16- 17 declares all Scripture is God Breathed, and since the Apocrypha is not, then it's not part of the Bible and to be rejected as such. If the canon is errant, then so is God, and that creates an ocean of contradictions and the faith is void.

    Why does it matter? Stick to the fundamentals, the primary one: Jesus Christ and Him crucified. All four gospels illustrate this. All the other distinguishing differences and similarities are not contingent for salvation. They are good for study and teaching but that's it.
