  • Is Jesus God according to the Bible, or in other words, is the deity of Christ biblical? When answering questions about Jesus like, who is Jesus Christ, is Jesus real, is Jesus God, is Jesus the only God, is Jesus the messiah, or any other questions about the deity of Jesus, knowing, what does the Bible say about Jesus, is critical. In this video, Pastor Nelson with Bible Munch answers the question: Is Jesus God according to the Bible, or in other words, is the deity of Christ biblical?

Some claim that the Old Testament proves that Jesus cannot be God because of Numbers 23:19a, which says, “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent” (KJV). The reasoning is that, if God is not a man, then the Christian claim that Jesus, a man, is God is false. Just as troublesome is the fact that Jesus repeatedly calls Himself the “Son of Man” in the gospels (e.g., Mark 14:21).
The Old Testament does indeed teach that God is not a human being, not only in Numbers 23:19 but also in 1 Samuel 15:29 and Hosea 11:9. However, the New Testament shows us that Jesus made claims to be God-and at the same time He calls Himself the “Son of Man,” a title that proclaims His humanity. With all this being true, how can we prove that Jesus is God?
Jesus claimed to be both the Son of God and the Son of Man. There are no tricks here. He said that He is God, and He said that He is (at the same time) human. No one had ever said such a thing before. It was strange then, and it is strange now-strange enough for a new term, the hypostatic union. No one will ever fully understand the union of Christ’s divine and human natures, no matter how much we talk about it, define it, or typify it. Therefore, “proof” cannot be obtained. We either believe Jesus, or we do not.

Great point, also would like to point out title “Son of Man” is a reference to his divinity as well using the title from the book of Daniel 7. Which it’s taken to mean a “worship that only belongs to God.”
Problem here from what I’m able to recognize is almost identical to the Gnosticism within the Colosian church. Where at the time many thought God didn’t have anything to do with creation being that he’s so Holy that he had to create “intercesors” to handle his light work on earth lol but glory to God, we know the Spirit reveals to us Gods mystery hidden from many, yet revealed thru Christ; A atoning sacrifice for all that believe 🙏🏽🙏🏽

Why would these trinitarian translations admit such a thing? Perhaps because it is difficult to honestly translate the Hebrew motsaah with a word that does not include this understanding. (Even when "goings forth" is the rendering, it appears it should also be with the understanding of "originating." For example, if we said "the command went forth from the King," we obviously mean the command originated with - or sprang from - the king! And when Micah 5:2 says of the Messiah: "O Bethlehem ..., from you shall come forth [the Messiah]," it can only mean that, in his earthly existence, he originated in Bethlehem!)
Obviously for so many respected trinitarian translators to choose this meaning ("origin") they must feel there is no other honest choice! The only meanings given by Gesenius for this word in his highly-respected Lexicon are "origin, springing" -

The Bible teaches that Jesus Christ is both God and man. Many Christians are understandably confused when it comes to understanding how Jesus can be God and man at the same time. How could our divine Creator become a human? Could a first-century Jewish man really be God? While a certain amount of mystery will always accompany this issue, both Scripture and, to a lesser extent, church tradition provide for us important distinctions to help us make sense of this matter.
While previous church councils had deliberated over issues pertaining to the nature of Christ and His relationship to the Father, it was the Council of Chalcedon (AD 451) that affirmed that Christ is “the same perfect in divinity and perfect in humanity, the same truly God and truly man.” This statement is not true simply because the council taught it. Rather, the council’s declaration was authoritative only insofar as it aligned with what the Bible teaches on the subject. Scripture is clear that Jesus is God (John 20:28; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 1:8), and it is equally clear that He is truly human (Romans 1:2-4; 1 John 4:2-3). Jesus claimed the divine name (John 8:58) and did things that only God can do (Mark 2:1-12; Luke 7:48-50). But Jesus also displayed the weaknesses and vulnerabilities common to humanity (Luke 19:41; John 19:28).
The belief that Jesus is both God and man is of fundamental importance. The apostle Paul wrote that an affirmation of the divinity of Jesus is required to be saved (Romans 10:9), and the apostle John provided a sober warning that those who deny Christ’s true humanity are promoting the doctrine of antichrist (2 John 1:7).

I want to add a few simple but powerful points that help validate Jesus' or Yeshua's deity (or that He is GOD):
    1) If Yeshua, the Son, is a created being, that would mean there was a time in eternity past when the Father was NOT the Father - clearly implying He DOES change.
    2) Most believers agree that the SON of God is the EXACT image and representation of the FATHER- or that the nature of the Son and Father are NO different. If this is true, Yahweh would be incorrect when He said in Isaiah 46 "To whom would you liken Me, and make Me equal and compare Me, that we should be alike?.....I am God and there is NO ONE like Me" (and many other places He says such words). If the Father DOES have someone who is exactly LIKE Him (the Son), but He and the Son are two separate beings or entities, then we are all idolators - and even the FATHER would be guilty of idolatry because He made Yeshua's Name to be above ALL names - not just on earth, but in HEAVEN where Yahweh Himself dwells (Phil.2:10-11)! If there is a distinctly separate being, "god" or angel who shares the exact same qualities/nature of Yahweh, then He cannot possibly be unique or distinct from all other beings, creatures, or gods, and He CAN have equals or others to which He can be compared. The issue of idolatry leads to the next point.......
    3) Yeshua said in John 8:58, “Before Abraham was born, I Am.” If we say He was just representing God and speaking as or for God as God’s agent (referring to the cultural law of agency), why would the people want to kill Him for that? And why didn’t Yeshua set the record straight by making it clear that He was only speaking on behalf of God and representing Him, rather than identifying with His essence and Being? There was no law against representation, but there was a law against blasphemy, precisely for which He was accused. He also said in John 8:24,28,13:19, “Unless you believe that I am [He], you will die in your sins; When you lift up the Son of Man, you will know that I am [He]; I am telling you this now, before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe that I am [He].” Most Bibles insert and italicize the word, “He” after, “I am,” indicating that “He” was not in the original manuscripts. The word “He” was added for readability and to conform to standard grammatical rules. Even if the word, “He” was in the original writings, this statement is still a clear reference to and identification with God’s words in verses like Isaiah 43:10, “You are My witnesses,” says the Lord, “My servant who I have chosen, so that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He.”
    4) Yahweh or the Father says we are to only worship, serve and follow HIM (Deut.6:14,13:4; I Kings 18:21; Rev.22:9) - but many times Yeshua speaks of us following and serving HIM, and all throughout the New Testament we see people worshipping YESHUA - and says that if the Son be lifted up, He would draw all people to HIM (although we only come to the Father through Him). Yes, many interpret "worship" as "obeisance" (as the JW's do), but I won't delve into that here.
Why didn't Yeshua come right out and say, "I am GOD - worship Me!"? He obviously could have done so, but in order for Him to fulfill His purpose in coming, He purposefully kept the revelation and truth of who He was “under tabs” to some level because had He not chosen to refrain from fully and bluntly revealing His identity, it would have shocked and offended His audience to the core - even more than He already had. He was already accused of blasphemy when He indirectly claimed equality with God or that He is God by saying He is God’s “Son” (John 5:18, 10:31). Being blunt and not keeping the truth partially veiled would have worked against His objective, cutting His earthly ministry much shorter. We even read in John 8:21 and Matthew 16:20 where He strictly warned His disciples NOT to tell everyone that He is the Messiah, and in Matthew 8:4, He told a leper not to tell anyone that He healed Him! If He came to save and to heal, why did in the world would He do that? The same reason He didn’t run an “I am GOD” campaign and the same reason He taught in parables. He didn’t teach parables only because the Hebrew culture learned through story-telling - nor did He do it so that His audience would better understand Him. Yeshua taught in parables for the opposite reason: to keep the revelation of His teachings partially veiled as well as to give Him more time to fulfill His mission before things “got crazy” (Luke 12:47-48; Matt.13:10-17, 9:30-31, 11:25; Prov.25:2; Mark 1:40-45,7:35-36). It was also to draw those who were truly spiritually hungry for God and His kingdom, rather than cheapening it by “plopping” it on a silver platter for everyone to readily gobble up without understanding the depth and cost of their decision. This goes along with the principle of not “throwing pearls to swine” (Matt.7:6), and we read in Proverbs 25:2, it is the GLORY of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings to search it out. This verse says it glorifies the Father for Him to conceal the secrets and mysteries of His nature and kingdom - as it provokes or entices those who are truly hungry to pursue God and the things of His kingdom on deeper levels.
Concerning the “mystery” of God’s nature: the claim that the triune nature of Yahweh is “mysterious” is not a scape goat for the inability to fully comprehend and explain it - nor is it an attempt to silence those who disagree that He is one in essence yet three in Person. It is simply true; God’s nature is mysterious because nothing we know in the natural or material world provides a framework or grid that would enable us to fully grasp or apprehend who He is. If we can’t fully understand even His works in the natural world, as Ecclesiastes 11:5 says, why do we think we’re going to fully grasp Yahweh’s nature? Even if we never fully apprehend or understand the nature of our infinitely glorious God, that’s perfectly fine! Actually, that's how it should be - who wants to worship a God they can wrap their brains around or fully comprehend? Why do we feel the need to have our infinitely glorious God all figured out and make Him fit in our neatly wrapped theological boxes? Only an intellectual requires answers on everything and is uncomfortable with the unknown; only the carnal/natural mind demands explanations and leaves no room for mystery. Yes, Daniel 2:22 says God reveals “deep and secret” things, and Matthew 13:35 says the Lord will (future tense) utter and reveal things “hidden since the foundation of the world.” This of course doesn’t mean everything will be revealed, as we read in Deuteronomy 29:29, “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us….” And Yeshua said in Jonn 16:12 that He had MUCH more to share with His disciples but He couldn't bc they were UNABLE the bear or handle it. In other words, there would be truths and greater revelations the Lord's Spirit would share with His people AFTER His departure throughout history. Some things He will allow to remain either mysterious or even hidden and “secretive,” and even that which has been revealed doesn’t necessarily mean we will fully apprehend it. Again, until we have a gloried body and mind, we will see through a “glass darkly” and know only “in part.”

    But
    if I do them,

Which one of you can prove that I AM guilty of sin?
    (John 8: 46 GNT)
When therefore HE said to them,
    "I AM,"
    they went backward,
    and fell to the ground.
    (John 18: 6 WEB)
JESUS said, "Take away the stone."
Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to HIM,
"Lord, by this time there is a
    stench for he has been
    dead four days."
    JESUS said to her,
"Didn`t I tell you that if you
    believed,
    you would see God`s glory?"
So they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying.
JESUS lifted up HIS eyes, and said,
    "FATHER, I thank you that
    you listened to ME.
-> I know that YOU always
    listen to ME,
    but because of the
    multitude that
    stands around I said this,
    that they may believe
    that

When he had said this, HE cried with a loud voice,
    "Lazarus, come out!"
-> He who was dead came out,
    bound hand and foot with
    wrappings,
    and his face was wrapped
    around with a cloth.
    JESUS said to them,
"Free him, and let him go."
    (John 10: 39 - 44 WEB)
    JESUS said to him,

Here’s a few useful passages, but the Bible pulsates one message, Jesus is GOD, and part of the GODHEAD.
If Jesus be a creature. .?
Romans 1 condemns men for worshipping and serving the creature instead of the creator.
“saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. And EVERY CREATURE which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying,
Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.”
    ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭5:12-14‬ ‭KJV‬‬
How is it that Jesus is not included with EVERY created thing. He is a creature still? Or isn’t he?

“For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.”

And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy. I will show wonders in heaven above And signs in the earth beneath: Blood and fire and vapor of smoke. ============
    YE ARE CALLED GODS
By participation… I believe. As Athanasius says.
Jesus says ‘to whom the word of God came’
In this instance, I believe Jesus is referring to men, to whom the word of God came.
As you get the sense Jesus is indignant; as these men described in the psalm, parallel the corrupt Jewish leaders of the day, as men put in positions of authority, with regards to stewarding God’s word, and how then can they dare bring a charge of blasphemy to Jesus.
As Jesus already says of them, your fathers stoned the prophets! Yet they believed they were right with God and doing his will and would recognise those sent by God as they claimed “we would not have stoned the prophets!” - but Jesus states they are the same as the men that came before them!
I think we also see Jesus continues to double down that he is in the father, and the father is in him, talking of complete unity, as God. So he’s not saying they are confused about what he’s saying. But rather as Gods authority on Earth they should be welcoming and honouring him, but instead bring a charge of blasphemy.
Jesus answered them - The answer of Jesus consists of two parts. The first John 10:34-36 shows that they ought not to object to his use of the word God, even if he were no more than a man. The second John 10:37-38 repeats substantially what he had before said, left the same impression, and in proof of it he appealed to his works. (Barnes commentary - Bible Hub)
“ The a fortiori element in the argument lies in this, that the judges were made “gods” by the coming to them of God’s commission, which found them engaged otherwise and itself raised them to their new rank, whereas Jesus was set apart by the Father and sent into the world for the sole object of representing the Father. If the former might be legitimately called “gods,” the latter may well claim to be God’s Son. The idea of the purpose for which Christ was sent into the world is indicated in the emphatic use of ὁ πατήρ; and this is still further accentuated in John 10:37.”
“For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) but to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.”
    ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭8:5-6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

This is what he has been trying to tell them throughout the whole book of John. John 10:24 Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. 25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and you believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me. And John tells us plainly the very reason why all these things that were written pertaining to Jesus we're written in John 20:30-31 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

      Hello
      No I’m not a JW
      Gen 1:26
      Cambridge commentary
      i. Until recently, the traditional Christian interpretation has seen in the 1st pers. plur. a reference to the Three Persons of the Blessed Trinity. The requirements of a sound historical exegesis render this view untenable: for it would read into the Book of Genesis the religious teaching which is based upon the Revelation of the New Testament.

iii. It has been explained as the plural of Majesty. It is pointed out that the commands and rescripts of royal personages are conveyed in the 1st pers. plur.; and reference is made, in support of this view, to Ezra 4:18, 1Ma 10:19; 1Ma 11:31. It may be allowed that the view is tenable; but the examples adduced are drawn from a very late period of Biblical literature, and, as an explanation, it appears to be little in harmony with the directness and simplicity of the passage.

vi. It was the old Jewish explanation that God is here addressing the inhabitants of heaven. In the thought of the devout Israelite, God was One, but not isolated. He was surrounded by the heavenly host (1 Kings 22:19); attended by the Seraphim (Isaiah 6:1-6); holding His court with “the sons of God” (Job 1:6; Job 2:1). We are told in a poetical account of the Creation, that when the foundations of the earth were laid, “all the sons of God shouted for joy,” Job 38:7 (cf. Psalm 29:1; Psalm 89:7; Psalm 103:19-22).
It’s pretty well accepted that it’s nothing to do with a trinity, of which Moses never knew of

*Hebrews 1:8* "But of the Son he says,
Your throne, O God, is forever and ever
the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom.
the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom."
*Philippians 2:6* "Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to."
*Titus **2:13* "waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ"
Jesus is God in flesh, not a mere man.

      Hello
      Jesus has a God
For instance if you would’ve posted the very next verse in Hebrews it says Jesus’s God anointed him
      Heb 1
      9 Thou hast loved righteousness and hated lawlessness;
therefore God, thy God, has anointed thee
with the oil of gladness beyond thy comrades.”
So Jesus’s is God who has a God??
      Strange
      Who is Jesus’s God?
      Rom 15
6 that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
      2 Cor 1
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,
      2 Cor 11
31 The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, he who is blessed for ever, knows that I do not lie.
      Eph 1
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,
      Eph 1
17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him,
      Col 1
3 We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you,
      1 Pet 1
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
      Rev 1
6 and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
      Rev 3
12 He who conquers, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God; never shall he go out of it, and I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem which comes down from my God out of heaven, and my own new name.
      John 20
17 Jesus said to her, “Do not hold me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brethren and say to them, I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.”

Yes, Jesus Christ is God. He is God Almighty (read Rev. 1:8).

Jesus never said that he wasn’t good, because only God is good. On the contrary, if you understand the logic of the discourse, the Lord was simply saying that if he’s being called good, and only God is good, then he must be God. Jesus in another place also said that he is THE GOOD SHEPHERD (see John 10:11). That title belongs to the God of Israel.
