    My dad, a sergeant in the US Army during WW2, was stationed at Argentia, Newfoundland. He said the "Newfies" were great and treated the US soldiers so well. He had fond memories of his stay there.

      Newfoundland wasn’t even a part of CANADA during that time, which is also important to note. Fought in those wars as Newfoundland. A lot has changed since then.

    This was my very 1st episode of A+K. And it was not my last of today. I started watching your videos at 10am. It's now 4pm. LOL. These videos are amazing. My friend's cousin did Ragbrai in 2021 and said it was the hardest thing she's done (and she's run 3 marathons). Super awesome achievement guys. Wow. Well done!!!!!! Happy new sub right here!!

    Newfoundland is spectacular and as you said it's very different from any other part of Canada. As someone that's taken both ferry trips and done many cruises I can tell you that the their is WAY MORE movement on the ferrys than on cruise ships. Looking forward to seeing this trip unfold.

    I just stumbled upon your videos of our amazing province! The beauty of this island never ceases to amaze me. I never get sick of the spectacular scenery here. Your enthusiasm and love for our beautiful homeland is very heartwarming. After living in Ontario for the last 38 years, we just retired one year ago, back to our little hometown of 500 people. I wake up every morning and have to pinch myself because I can’t believe that we get to live here every day for the rest of our lives!!! So thankful for this privilege!

    So glad you could go to Newfoundland! I did the same ferry run with my parents in 1985 when I was 25. I understand how you could feel " seasick". I was ok going over as I was outside most of the trip. On the way back to Nova Scotia, the weather was cooler and rainy so I was sitting inside. What a difference! With that ferry, you have the option for driving back to the rest of Canada through Labrador and Quebec. We did that in reverse 5 years ago in May. That crossing was through pack ice following an icebreaker. It’s an extra 1,000 km, but a shorter and much cheaper ferry ride. Have fun in NL. We spend our summers there.

    A significant historical event happened on the Sydney to Port aux Basques ferry route with the sinking of the ferry boat Caribou by a German U-boat in October of 1942. About 130 civilians, mostly women and children lost their lives. Caribou was being escorted by the Canadian warship HMCS Grandmere that spent 90 minutes searching for the U-boat, dropping depth charges before returning to pick up survivors, this being standard orders in those days.

    • @scottcarter6623

    I’m arriving here very late, but here’s a fun fact for you. That ferry (and its sister ship the Highlanders) carry 4,000,000L (1,056,803.17 US Gallons) of fresh water. At any given time there is 100,000L (26,420 US gallons) of hot water available to the showers to the Passenger Cabins on deck 8.
    The water is heated by utilizing the waste heat from the main engine exhaust, and it’s theoretically impossible to run out of hot water while the shit is underway.

      Thank you! We haven’t been to Iceland but some parts do look similar from what we’ve seen! We usually post no more than 1-1.5 months delayed so if you look at the post date of the video it’s usually within a couple weeks of when it was posted. Thanks and thanks for watching!

    They have a faster ferry on now. From north Sydney, called the cat that will do it in 2 hours

      Do you have a link to this ferry? The only CAT ferry we know of runs from Maine to Nova Scotia. But we’d be interested in learning more, as we are writing Newfoundland guides currently.

    I recommend a cruise if you pick the right itinerary. Ferries are cool but not the same as a cruise ship

    It sounds weird when you use the abbreviation of Company in Hudson Bay Company, not sure what's left of the Hudson Bay company, it was for years, well after its fur trading days, one of Canada's retail store, pretty well all the smaller stores closed up, and just the larger stores in the big cities remained.

    I love this Maritime series. Been thinking about going up that way for some time(only gone as far as Acadia). We would only be up there a max of two weeks and doing hotels; so it would be doing the highlights of NS & PEI. Doubtful we would get to Newfoundland.
    Utah question. Would you recommend doing Peak-a-boo or Devils Garden to late 50s early 60s years old?? I am leaning heavily to do Devils Garden and not doing Peak-a-boo. To me though, the entry is the only stumbling block.
    BTW-love your channel and like that you stay in areas for weeks at a time so you get more out of it vs scratching the surface.

    • @AdventuresofAplusK
      @AdventuresofAplusK  Рік тому

      Hi! I think it just depends on our comfort level of climbing up that entry point. If you can see someone do it ahead of you that helps. At least it did for us. We almost backed out of it. Once you're in there though it's a ton of fun! Not sure if that helps!
      Thank you and thanks for watching!

      Heck yeah! We're planning on doing it again in a few years with Jenn and Elliot again and possibly some others. Throw in some vans and more moms for support! I don't think either of us have interest in doing it solo. It was all about having fun with friends through a challenge

    Great video, quick question though: how far in advance did you book the cabin? I did this same trip this past June and booked my ferry tickets in April but there weren't any cabins available. I tried different days but nothing was available. Speaking to the customer service representative, she said the cabin reservations book up 6 months in advance. I'm just wondering if I just had unlucky timing or not, thank you and great videos!

    Hi, I am planning a trip to Nava Scotia, how is the cell phone signal when you cross the border. Because I have to work remotely, so I need to know how strong the cell phone signal is. I am using ATT, thank you very much for sharing video and looking forward to hearing your response.

    • @AdventuresofAplusK
      @AdventuresofAplusK  Рік тому

      Hello! It depends what areas you are traveling to. We haven't spent a ton of time in Nova Scotia yet, but I'd imagine cell signal is great in the larger cities and most of the province. I would check with your cell provider if you have international coverage. We have an AT&T hotspot and it doesn't work at all, but it could be the plan it's on. Verizon works great, but we only get 2 gb of high speed data per day. Hope that helps and good luck!

    Newfound is beautiful. Mom was born there spent the summers growing up down there. Marine Atlantic has always has a poor reputation, the cafeteria’s should never close and be open 24/7. Even if they have to through food out. Passengers pay the same rates no? Great vid. Thx.

    Why wouldn't you shower at truck stops, other gyms, or community centres with pools?
    You should play that game on the way back!
    Did the ice cream open later in the trip?

    • @AdventuresofAplusK
      @AdventuresofAplusK  Рік тому

      Those are good options, but we try to shower for free as much as possible. So paying at truck stops, non Planet Fitness gyms, and community centers all have a fee. On the way back we’ll be in Planet Fitness country again so we’ll have lots of options there 😊
