Its been years since I watched (not a MTG fan) and I couldnt help notice the ring and found out you got married a few years back. Just wanted to say congratulations and its good to be back!
That Manner pylon at the start is so damn clever. Just the way it synergizes with the zealot to generate additional value out of thin air is a thing of beauty. If marines don't tear it down, it continues to harass you. But if the marines are tearing it down, the zealot is harassing you instead. Such a brilliant way to divide the small number of resources Terran has at the start, and leverage your slight advantage into even more pressure out of nothing.
I wanna correct a misconception about 18th century warfare. The reason why the advanced armies of Europe used fairly strict line formations was not because it was considered "honourable", but because it was ruthlessly efficient for getting to an optimal range to fire as many musket balls as possible, while enabling commanders to maneuver formations in order to get good sight lines. This was all very difficult and required soldiers to be strictly drilled to follow orders even if they couldn't see anything on a smoky battlefield to ensure each unit arrived at the right place at the right time. Once everyone was in position, properly drilled soldiers could shoot very efficiently and would, ideally, have a positional advantage, enabling them to quickly flank and decimate the enemy. Meanwhile, these armies did employ skirmishing troops who would have better rifles and training for operating independently. It should be noted that line infantry often did use cover when fighting defensively, but when on the offense, it was occasionally necessary to march in the open while under fire because your effective range or sight lines may not have allowed you to fire back effectively, or because another formation relied on you to get into position in time for their part of the attack to work. There is a trope that this was done because it was considered "honourable" (of course, it WAS considered honourable to follow orders properly without complaining), but when you look at the weapons and methods available to these armies, it's clear that the guiding principle was ruthless efficiency. This was also the period in which these armies developed modern artillery and chemical weapons, which are clearly not honourable methods for fighting. But until explosives and automatic guns made tight formations untenable, these formations were more effective in an era where positioning, manual reloading, and even the prospect of charging into melee combat were highly determinative of success.
Also you basically *had* to stand to reload until the advent of breach-loading, and needed considerable volume of fire to compensate for poor individual accuracy until the advent of rifling. So you have necessarily large formations firing in volleys and standing to reload, because that's what the weapons technology of the day forces on you. Because of simple geometry, the best way to arrange those formations is in a few shallow lines for firepower (and columns for maneuver and shock combat). The battle line just emerges out of that - it's almost mathematically necessary given the constraints an army of the time is optimizing under. Honour has precious little to do with it. (Incidentally, it's also best to have your officers in bright, readily distinguishable attire so that your guys can see them - the enemy weapons don't have sufficient accuracy to reliably pick out a man-sized target, so the fact that you're presenting an obvious target doesn't matter so much). EDIT: of course, inertia being what it is, the line-and-volley system did somewhat outlive the technological conditions that created it, with pretty horrific consequences in conflicts like the Franco-Prussian war (for the French, primarily, the Prussians having mostly moved to much looser order formations)
Tight formations are also important against cavalry, especially when you have a low rate of fire. Bayonets allowed units to "take care of themselves" rather than earlier more complicated mixed pike and shot formations. Increased rates of fire from infantry combined with higher volume machine guns required (to avoid getting wrecked) and facilitated (protection from cavalry) looser formations.
If it's possible, please do some analysis of ASL games. I love watching them with Tasteless and Artosis, so getting a thorough analysis of these games by the Professor himself after that would be like dessert after a good meal.
I'm glad Day9 has found such massive success through card games etc but they just aren't my thing (my brain is far too small) so it's really nice to see Starcraft stuff pop up, I've missed this man and his charming analytical brain a lot. Looking forward to the occasional SC videos going forward. :3
Those mana pylons at beginning, swear I could hear Snow cackling lol. That Terran was really impressive though, like watching Royal or Barracks who was that?

going back to getting a wraith and having a wraith, wouldn't like a ocuple of wraiths be way better at dealing with the shuttle pressure in the utlra late game instead of building what feels like 500 goliaths that were getting mauled by the reavers and DTs?
Reduces the tank count (need starports, gas on wraiths) which is what the protoss wants, making more zealot+dragoons viable again. What Snow has figured out and shown us in the last couple of years is how to break the mould of mass tanks+supporting terran units by using shuttle maneuver+reavers (along with other units of course) to exploit their weaknesses, delay, harass and weaken over time and space. The offensive harass all over the place was to weaken, and embarass and troll. He could have built more standard army units 2/3 into the game and broke the 6 o'clock base earlier
