Missing lighting and textures for the Abandoned Mine and Orc City is not the reason why it is black when you load into it on PC. The reason is that the level files are missing (ABANDONEDMINE.ZEN and ORCCITY.ZEN), so the game loads into an empty area with literally nothing in it (because there is no file telling the game what to load into the void). --- Afaik the 3D models (meshes) for these levels were published later with the gothic mod/development kit released by PB in 2002 without using them by the game (AbandonedMine.3ds and OrcCity.3ds). These models were then used by some mods that added fan-made .ZEN levels for these areas. --- What I don't know is if the .ZEN files we see in the Switch port are some restored old original development versions made by PB or if that is also a fan creation (made by people involved in the port).
Thats damn interesting. I didn't know that! But the fact remains that those meshes were indeed the work of the original team. Why do you think they included those levels?
Possible reasons I can think of for adding the levels now with the Switch port: - They included them by accident, because they used the original PB development source materials, that still had these levels included as they were published now. - They created/added them during development to be able to evaluate/play them in-game for the remake. - The outside modders that helped asked for these levels to be added.
I like playing the Definitive Edition mod. It restores the abandoned mine. I'm the one that put the game save file on nexusmods..com. there is also a vanilla save there too. I found it a long time ago. I also like the Wasteland mod for G2, from moddb..com. Gothic games are my comfort games.😊
So basically, this game would have been a much bigger goat of a game then it is already...geez. To create such story into a game is beautiful especially when they limit your fighting skills, map orientation and so on. All makes the player play it as a story and not like a beat them up kind of game...that usually is the case for ANY game, mostly all feel like FPS shooter :))
I really like the idea of putting more stuff on mountains. In the podcast, they talked about making climbing better, which implies that there might be more places to climb. So, we might see that in the remake.

You have tried the latest patches for G3, right? Plus the "parallel universe" patch? I was blown away, after not playing in years. Texture mod plus ultimate .ini settings. Only problem i found is that "fire rain" does not work like it used to. Damn Highland deer, near Greypelt. LOL
@@vertigo7082 Yes. I wish they did lean into expanding the game with cut content too, in some cases like old pass it would be incredibly minimal effort wise. Proper Orc city still could be included as second undeground entrance within their camp i think. I hope they keep freedom of exploring even the mountains like you can in og games, except they add some content there here and there or some eastereggs to find in those less intended areas. Teaser was annoyingly limiting like amy run of the mill linear experience, a bit like Witcher 2 with this climbing when they let you instead of what Gothic 1 and 2 have.
that's what i was thinking. their numbers would have to be replenished somehow. i would guess that, when in dire need, they would request more orcs to come through and settle permanently. maybe there were great honors or rewards to compensate volunteers

abandoned mine - maybe raven could send you there to check possible ore supply just before he gets away and somehow survive G1 and appears in G2. or simply clean up of a mine because crawlers became too aggressive and distract supply route.
Gothic II should get tweaked to actually make sense with og valley of mines layout using 2nd mountain pass as default one, and short cut we use should be new section of Khorinis side pass that is inplied to exist by dragon snapper and crumbled passage where it spawns as part of the quest south of the farm near the gate to the pass. That should be the part that also leads to the old exchange platform instead of main mountain pass path where most orcs are. Mine passage shouldnt exot where abandoned mine is byt on the other side of the bridge where 2 crumbled entrances are. It both would make more sense and give a better vista of mine valley.
Good idea! In my head canon I always thought it is that area behind the free mine. Down below is that winding mountain path that leads from the New Camp to the Stonehenge area.
I wish they'd take more time to develop the game, maybe late 2025 / beginning of 2026.. it needs to be a really good, polished game to compete with the mainstream RPGs now and if a mess comes out like Gothic 3 did, it would mean bad sales and eventually bankrupcy for THQ which means no more Gothic/Elex/whatever for a while.. although now that I think about, Mike Hoge isn't part of THQ so this game remake won't be up to standards but oh well.. we'll see.
There was also a cut fourth faction that you could join, but it didn't get very far. And the bandits in the mountains exist, just right of the place where Diego helps you kill the Troll for the Focus stone quest. There is even a named bandit NPC with no related quest to him. Also, woman, they wanted to have them in the game but the budget and time ran out for them to model armor and other aspects for them. Me? I'm a heretic, I actually want a fully customisable nameless hero character creation, why? Well why not! Just set it up that the default mug you see before starting any customisation is the default guy from the original.
No political correct Heroine BS where a biological weaker human can swing a big fukcing war hammer like Innos himself. Women are an (important) resource, a raw material. Men's lives are expendable, 5 diggers die, it's annoying but nothing more. The average man in Gothic's penal colony has a SIGNIFICANTLY worse situation than the "cleaners". Think about it, they can wash themselves with clean water, get higher quality food and, of course, due to certain forced considerations, they also have security. Reminds me a little of young girls in Latin America who get involved with a distributor of summer snow as side friends. Some kind of golden cage. And if you can understand between the lines, you could also portray a strong, charismatic but obviously repressed woman well. Just please don't be a politically correct, completely illogical heroine. This detracts from the entire immersion to such an extent that it would be massively damaging. What would be cool, if you could get hair cuts, make your head bald (automatism) if you join the Brotherhood. Old Camp and New Camp have nearly the same hair cuts. I dunno, maybe 5-10 different hair curts, a few beard options but always the "Nameless Hero".
In an interview with Mike Hoge he confirmed that they never had plans for Quentins bandits. Read yourself: gothicarchive.org/postrelease/interviews/MikeHoge_30_01_2021_Part2.html#Quentin
Honestly would like they revamp the later acts of the game. The sleeper plot never felt right. Would prefer something like going in the orc caves after more and more orcs keep popping up, realizing the size of the threat and mounting an evacuation effort of some sort which involves destroying the barrier using the water mage stockpile. Then fighting off a horde of orcs before defeating their big boss by causing a landslide cutting off the path between the fleeing and the orcs. Charging in at the remaining horde. A selfless sacrifice worthy of a nameless hero. You die and stay dead for a what until xartas does his shennanigans for the second game and revives you. Being dead has its consequences causing the protagonist to lose many of his strength and capabilities.
Kind of weird. In this Video, Bullit greets you with "willkommen in der Kolonie, baby" (welcome to the colony baby). In the Original, he says "Willkommen im Lager" (welcome to the camp). When did the change come?
This is an original recording which didn't make it into the game. I think it's from the modification "Gothic: Definitive Edition" or "Welt der Verurteilten".
honestly not sure if it even needs to be bigger by usable surface. there were underused places in original already. shuffle around places change some things... dont make it bigger for the sake of size. if it gets bigger sure if it doesnt its ok too. its just one tiny valley. maybe make G2 bigger if that ever comes to remake. only logical think that main part of island is bigger
