All that force and it still didn't deform. That's one badass bullet.

Copper is a metal that "work hardens" meaning that as it is swaged, pressed, folded, stretched, extruded, etc, it becomes harder. Maybe the rifling squeezing on the bullet helped it maintain its shape, in addition to copper already being *much* harder and less malleable than lead.

I have a Glock 20 & 29. I've found that most 'off the shelf' 10mm ammo is loaded fairly close to .40 S&W spec. The 3 that I've been impressed with are HPR, Underwood and DoubleTap. Each of them get about 1250 fps from the G29 and 1300+ from the G20.

Thats the crappy thing about the 10mm. The "affordable" stuff is horribly underpowered, the good stuff is stupid expensive. 10mm is one of those rounds that should push you into reloading because you save a metric ton of money doing so.

Since Lehigh Defense makes their Extreme Penetrators in most sizes of handgun calibers how about comparing all handun calibers to see which of them will go through the bullet-proof glass vs stopped by the glass starting with .380 then 9mm, 357 mag, .44 mag., .45,acp and we saw the 10mm. This is great information for both sides of the glass. My guesses are: no to the .380acp and the .45acp but yes to the 9mm, 357mag., .44mag.

Love it! Please, if you can, can you repeat this test, but have ballistic gel behind the bulletproof glass? I would love to see the penetration that the XP bullet has "left" after going through the "Bullet Proof"glass. I'd love to see just how much power it has left, if any. The ballistic gel behind the glass would give me some indication.

  • @007jjb

Thank you! I had NO IDEA that was possible, that was like a laser beam. That bullet punched through that glass like paper absolutely amazing. • @dpattersonbusiness
    @dpattersonbusiness 9 років тому +33

Can you try two additional follow up test.
    1. Since the bullet went through the glass using a Glock 40. Test the same bullet using the Glock 20 and 29 in 10mm as well. This should show if the additional velocity of the longer barrel made all the difference or if and when barrel length was a deciding factor.
    2. Also try same brand of bullet in the other Glock MOS guns and their respective relatives. This should give more data to link to the first test as well as provide more supporting data across multiple areas.

On top of the fact that I have never ever seen an example of an innocent bystander hit by a bullet that passed completely through a bad guy (not a miss, that's a different scenario), the 10mm is so versatile you can choose loads from 135gr all the way up to 220gr. So with proper bullet selection over penetration is a non-issue, just like every other handgun.

I couldn't imagine using something like this as defense ammo, all I can think about is over penetration, but it would be damn fun to shoot.

    • @williamkissinger3164

Over penetration like come on its rare enough that you'll even need it it would be more rare that someone will catch a stray behind the bad guy. Maybe in an apartment wouldn't be my first choice but yea chances are astronomical you'll hit a bad guy and an innocent person at the same time. Most people can't even hit the target they spray and pray them the people that may hit someone else by accident. Definitely more of self defense in the wilderness tho lol

I got ready to buy a few boxes and then realized that I'm never going to need to shoot through bulletproof glass, and at $2.00 a round, well, I already have some of Underwood's 220 grain hard cast flat nose, which is pretty bad-ass too. I have 1,000 rounds of Sellier & Bellot FMJ for target shooting, and I'll practice with the ly cool! I got ready to buy a few boxes and then realized that I'm never going to need to shoot through bulletproof glass, and at $2.00 a round, well, I already have some of Underwood 220 grain before I go into the mountains because that's what will be in the mag.
Obviously this is not for home defense, since the bullet will likely wind up inside a neighbor's house two doors down.

Finally, a 10mm test. Lol. I figured it would go through with a hardcast bullet or a solid bullet like the lehigh xp. As far as the everyday 10mm ammo that the factories produce now, it's no where near it's original specs. they sure have watered it down. Back in 1983 when Jeff Cooper initially thought out the specs he wanted and performance he wished to achieve, Norma took on the challenge. Jeff wanted a round that was relatively short so it could feed in a semi-automatic, and potent enough to hit harder than the .45 auto and have more stopping power than the .357 magnum. The original loading was a 200gr bullet loaded to a minimum of 1200 feet per second. Norma at the time was the only company who was making it and boy did they have a winner. It blew the .45 out of the water and laid the smack down on the .357 since it was driving a 200gr bullet over 1200 feet per second. Those loads back then were really close to .41 magnum loads at the time. Unfortunately, the 10mm never really took off like it should have because of recoil and blast it caused when the fbi was training with it and the 10mm "fbi lite" round came about, and eventually they just shortened the case and the .40 caliber was born. Underwood loads the only true 10mm spec ammo that I know of, or atleast the most consistent as far as shot to shot deviation and accuracy. My everyday carry is a Glock 20 and I love it. Flat shooting and tack driving accurate. Slapped a lw standard length barrel in it to shoot my lead loads and couldn't be happier. 10mm is a great handloaders tool. You can get a lot of economy out of it, or you can shoot full loads and still have a very shootable load, especially with a Glock because of the heavy slide. The weight of the slide really tames the recoil. Anyways, great video. Been wondering if you were going to test the bpg with a few 10mm. Hope you enjoy the 40 mos. Going to pick one up myself as soon as my local shop gets another one in. Gotta love the 10...got to...

With the reintroduction of the 10mil via new models from several manufacturers and companies like Underwood who make read deal hot as hell 10mm ammo (consistently I may add!) and not only price it right but ship it to your door, many times with free shipping! I have a lot of faith in this round. All the power of the venerable .357mag but in auto format and even more versatile. You can't go wrong with this caliber imho.

Ballistics by the inch lists about a 100fps difference between a 4 inch barrel (g20) and a 6 inch barrel (G40) with buffalo bore 180 grain loads. This means about 200lb/f energy difference.
Mind you I'm not arguing with more 10mm goodness.

I've had my Glock 40 since the day it came out. Still waiting for the small plate that you need to put under the battery compartment in order to mount the Trijicon RMR07. Why Trijicon doesn't ship these with their $600 optics is beyond me.The G40 is a ton of fun to shoot, but it is massive even compared to my G20. Love the Xtreme Penetrators, so much WIN!

search dea glock shoots himself and you'll see numerous copies here an the 'tube .... lots of other searches .
The joke here is this "professional" refers to his glock as a "for tay" , which is the caliber and not the model. Plinkster has the (relatively new) model 40 ... in the 10 mm chambering .... so yea, not confusing at all :) To take confusion a step further you can shoot 40 in a 10mm (not a good idea, but works). One more step into confusion, the 40 is lovingly called the "10 mm short" sometimes :) When the FBI discovered it needed a milder round they cut down the case length.
Everyone now owes me .02 cents

Great video! I have the Glock 40 and I was considering the 10mm extreme penetrator or the Corbon 180 grain bonded core soft point for black bear defense loads. Your video shows the extreme penetrator load will have more than adequate penetration. A 40 caliber hole is better than a 357 size hole.

interesting that the UW load penetrd with only about half of the power of an AK-47 round. Which is the go-to round for this kind of thing. I think it shows the performance of this bullet design in combination with the cartridge weight/speed and caliber. And that's why the 10mm is admired. The other round was the equivalent of the .40 s&w, which ain't shabby by any means...I'd like to see the stock Lehigh Def round which is 1200fps, fired at the panel. To see how the bullet design aides penetration of this barrier......Nice test.
