      @@timhallas4275 As long as it sends a 180gr bullet 1,100 fps, that's plenty for range fodder. Not like you're using Wolf for hunting or carry anyhow. Heck, 170gr at a little more like PPU would be fine too.
      Sig ammo has some kick if you need it, but it's expensive. Magtech/S&B are inexpensive and close to full power, about 90% if I were to assign a numerical score (based on the Norma figures).

      @@Kattbirb I'm not a big fan of the "range" circuit. I have a target in my basement that I use to keep my skill honed. Seven or ten rounds, once or twice a week, and i am ready to perform. Shooting cheap, under-powered ammo for practice makes no sense to me, unless that is what you plan to use for defensive shooting. Practice with low power rounds, then reload with full power rounds and your follow up shots will be all over the place. I have learned over the years, that you carry exactly what you practice with, and you practice with exactly what you plan to carry.

      I think the size of the Smith 1076 was more of a problem than the cartridge, since the FBI only ever issued the watered-down version of the 10, but still in the large gun. Essentially the .41 Magnum story, twenty years later; have to have a big gun for the big cartridge, no matter the power level of the specific load.

      @reesej123 Russell ( Almost choking on the irony ,as I am rather outspoken for NOT being obsessed with penetration .)
      The * Individual * FBI test protocols are each useful in the individual context that each measures . Once again not necessarily the FBI's promogulated minimums and maximums , but as a relative measure , with a degree of relevance to actual penetration .
      Back in the '80s when they were developed , the FBI test*S* were Not intended to be routinely applied in total as a group . They were intended to be a smorgasbord to pick and chose only those tests of relevance and importance for their situation and requirements , and disregard the others . So in your example , concentrate upon reaults for bare and clothed gel , and little to none on auto glass and sheet metal.
      I may well be a statistical freak , but I do know people who engaged in gunfight with felons inside stopped to slowly moving vehicle . ( Yes , as civillian in USA)
      No , rifles are NOT universal with LE among the rank & file . Approaching parity with widespread patrol shotguns , but still far less than majority of patrol or front line detectives have imeadate access to any long gun .

      I carried the 1006 for a few years. It's the full size big brother to the 1076. I've always loved the 10mm. I handload 99% of my 10's now cause it's so dang expensive. The factory stuff is too watered down anyway. I run Corbon 135gr classic JHP in the 3rd gen model 20 I carry now. Huge cavity for a 135 and they expand everytime. Underwood is the only company that still loads full house 10mm. I think DoubleTap does but some have said it's iffy as far as consistency. Buffalo Bore loads some decent full house 10mm. Like yourself, I love the 10mm for it's performance and it's versatility for hunting, bullseye/silhouette shooting, and it's defensive versatility. I carry my 3rd gen model 20 appendix 365 days a year. You can't beat it for a defensive pistol. just my opinion. Some think I'm crazy to carry such a large frame high cap gun for cc, but it's not as bad as people make a full size pistol out to be. Great video MAC. Maybe the 10 will come back around. The Corbon Pow'Rball in 10mm is a nice carry load. The silver or blue glaser are some mean rounds. Check out the Magsafe rounds if you get a chance. You want to talk about speed and smack. Anyways, thanks for keepin' the 10 alive. It would be awesome to see some gel test. :)

      AustrianJager The Barnes xp's are decent. I prefer a lead core bullet for carry. Federal makes a bonded soft point that makes for a mean carry bullet with certain powders. I usually load them with Alliant 2400 or Blue Dot. A lot of new powders out now days for big gains in velocity. IMR 800-x is hands down the best powder for 10mm full house loads. I've pushed 180gr bullets over 1400 fps out of a Glock 20 factory barrel and right at 1400 in a factory length lone wolf barrel. The 10mm doesn't get the praise it deserves. Good to see another 10mm fan.

      What's hurting the 10mm is plastic (polymer if that makes plastic sound less cheap...) pistols and a lack of AFFORDABLE steel frame firearms chambered for that caliber. Glock marketing and fanboys will claim that because it's essentially the only affordable option available to shoot 10mm. It's restrictive but if you really want it you can get guns here through whats called a sports shooters licence. There's a theory and malfunction clearance test involved to get one but it's pretty easy. Once you get your permanent licence you can get any shotgun, bolt action rifle you want. Handguns and semi automatic weapons require approval from the governour but all of my requests have been approved so far so no trouble there. Storage is a given, keep away from kids and remove any component making the gun incapable of firing (removing the slide on a handgun and placing it separate suffices,removing the bolt on a bolt action and taking apart the upper and lower half of a 2 barrel shotgun placing them separately) Suppressors are illegal here though, reasoning is beyond me but, well, it is what it is.

    • @Rokaize
      @Rokaize 8 років тому +1

      Wow I'm surprised. Seems much less restrictive than other places in Europe. Obviously it is not nearly as liberal as it is here in the U.S. Do you think your system is better than ours? I personally would side with less government involvement like we have here.

    • @KoMDraegast
      @KoMDraegast 8 років тому

      +Daelkyr Well I wouldn't say better. We can't carry anything in public, only from and to the gun range. If someone breaks into my property and doesn't carry a gun I'm not allowed to use my gun even as a deterrent unless he uses physical violence in which case, thr judge decides if it actually was a viable last resort option, if he thinks it isn't, I'd get my shit stolen AND prison+ lifetime ban from owning and even shooting firearms. There are no national competitions aside from clay pidgeon shooting. But at least politicians are trying to get self defence gun ownership more accepted by the general ignorant sheeple here.

    • @Rokaize
      @Rokaize 8 років тому +2

      Interesting. Are they trying to get better self defense laws because of the recent attack you guys faced by those animals?
      Here in Texas if someone comes onto your property after dark without permission then you are fully able to kill them. Whether they pose a threat or not. And you are immune to being brought to civil court.
      We also have Stand Your Ground. Where if you reasonably believe you are in grave danger you have no duty to retreat and can use lethal force.

      Back in the day the FBI made some test to determine what calibers were most effective in causing wounds and they determined it was the 357 magnum and 45 acp (which makes sense, back in the day not as much great bullet/cartridge designs and the 45 always expanded the most even till today and 357 always penetrated the most even up till today also). Later on the 10mm was made and it had the best of both worlds, it gave great penetration and expansion. While also having supersonic velocity and tons of energy which is good in hollow point ammo for putting at least a little impact on the threat letting them know they’v been shot and possibly throwing them off their best performance mentally if they are shooting also. Good 10mm ammo penetrates more than a 40 s&w (and 40’s penetrate well enough already) and expand to about 0.80 which is really amazing, underwood makes that type of ammo with gold dots and if im not mistaken federal also makes one similar (heard some good stuff about the 10mm winchester brands also but not sure).

    Personally I tried out all the calibers. 9,40,45,10mil. The 40 was the most powerful I could consistently accurately rapid fire. .45 and 10mil required "re-aiming" and popped the frame out of my "intuitive-zone". Knowwhatimean? Sure, if I doubled my practice with a larger caliber I could likely somewhat compensate for that. But as it stands, after a decade of using .40, it's my round. For my civilian use it works. If I lived in Alaska, I'd likely carry and practice with 10mil. If I lived with serious threat of multiple human attackers, or if I felt a (stronger) possibility of war, riots or revolution, it'd be a Hot 9. (Check back with me after November.) But for tweakers or muggers, I like my .40. I understand your historical reasons for disliking the .40. But it is more powerful than a 9 and more manageable than a 45 or 10m. Also, all the advancement made to improve the 9 also applies to all other caliber too... Just me....

Just that 10mm price needs to drop before I can even come close to affording it. My M2.0 full size was only right above $400 with full range kit, bullets are hitting around .34 a round. No, it wasn't. It was designed to out perform the .45 and 9mm. There's no mention anywhere of Jeff Cooper developing the 10mm for hunting. It was first introduced to the FBI.40s&w was developed because the FBI sissies couldn't manage the recoil and their qualification scores plummeted. Certainly your opinion. However, in my opinion..... different situations/environments require different solutions.
      10mil is good as a "woods" gun, or one for use in a tactical operation(if .45 isn't available) I'd rather have that than a 9mil or a .380 if that's what I'm doing. However, in public, 10 mil is a horrible caliber. Over penetration is a significant risk. Recoil is quite a bit more for less accurate and slower follow shots.

      10mm is the most versatile round. Just by changing ammo you can go from something that will not go through a person to something that will go trough IIIa armor like butter. Grizzly bear defense. Subsonic rounds for suppressors. Hunting. EDC. Home defense... You name it.

      @@vladmordekeiser1054 a lower power 10mil round is nothing more than an expensive .40 S&W round.

      @vladmordekeiser1054 4 роки тому

      @@napalmstickylikeglue Yes. So what? Just use the good ammo.
      The day you for some reason need to use a supressor, just use the subsonic one. You will not die by in an specific occasion using the weaker ammo.
      P.S.: in case your comment, that didn't make much sense to me, is referring to the "something that will not go through a person" ammo, that specific ammo is exactly the opposite of "lower power". On the contrary, it is one of the hottest, faster ones. Most high quality, high powered 105 grains lead-free hollow points fit in that category. They go extremely fast but have the lowest penetration - you know, sometimes penetration isn't something you want.
      That's what I meant by "versatility". With one single gun you can fit several different purposes.

The 45 was the best choice available 25/30 years ago but with the advancement of bullet composition and more powerful propellant it’s no wonder to me that the 45 caliber is fading and 10 mm is coming back into the picture. I just wanted to rub a little salt in you 45 ACP guys eyes 👀!

      .45 ACP will always be here since I always say this, 70% of the shooting public will be shooting nothing but 9mm, for them, if they want a more powerful round, they get the .45ACP, that’s it. No more, no less. It’s not that heavy in recoil and still can stop a charging man down flat so for the vast majority, that’s it for them. But for some who worry about bears or want to hunt hogs who needs even more firepower, you want a 10mm. This actually left the .40 S&W in the rut and on the way out. It’s overpowered to stop a man and it’s even more flippy than a 10mm! This means most, if not all the 9mm public throws it by the wayside after shooting it. On the other side, it’s not powerful enough to the 10mm so it’s stuck and on the way out instead.

    Semper Fi Mac. In defense of the .40, the 180 grain bullet should NEVER be used in a .40 caliber pistol. It is unstable because the bullet takes up too much space in the high pressure cartridge and thus performs poorly. lighter bullets perform exponentially better. There is good test data that supports this theory. There are 155gr .40 cal rounds that easily exceed 1300fps without sacrificing accuracy. It is a better round than the 9mm at these lighter weights. 180gr bullets should not exist for the .40.

      ScrapMetalBomb U know SHIT about the .40! It was designed specifically For 180 round bullet. 180 grain bullets penetrate the old steel mailboxes that used to sit on street corners in every town. the 135 will not penetrate 4 shit the 155 suks, in penetration test. the only one that I would use other than 180 would be the 165 grain bullet. 180 was designed specifically for police and civilian self-defense whereas the nine and the 45 where designed with ball ammunition specifically for military use. Keep your comments to yourself until you know what your talking about...
