- There are many different playstyles in world of warships and not all the ships at tier 10 are worth getting depending on how you play. I think Des Moines might be the exception. It does everything so well and can be adapted to almost any playstyle.

The Des Moines was the first Tier X I got back when the game first cleared Beta. Back then, each class played a more specific role. BB's were the damage dealers, DD's were best at scouting, CV's did both, and Cruisers used to hang with the Battlewagons for AA support or support the DD's. The Des Moines was a blast to play. Now, everything's been "balanced" and the roles are skewed IMO, but I still enjoy playing my DM!
Des moines is an absolute blast with leg mod. Being able to maneuver in close quarters adds to the strengths the des moines already has in cqc.
It is really good but very dependent on certain maps. I personally have a better chance of supporting my teammates with the range mod especially during clan battle

Need more match breakdowns on your decision making if you are willing to do some more of those. Not just on good matches but bad ones too even if it's just live commentary from twitch. I and several of my friends have gotten rid of allot of bad habits and picked up some good ones from you through such streams and videos.
DM can do ton of damage, has long radar, can kind of tank, but the worst part of the ship is everyone knows you can be a serious threat, and BBs love to shoot at you.
Noting comes even close to a Legendary Des Moin with Halsey and Steel Camo :D It's just too good, a PURE Love!

Buffalo is quite good too. Don't let the negative reviews of that ship misguide you. I enjoyed Buffalo a lot in Arms Race mode and I hope you enjoy the ship too :)
@@sameerkharade7750 It's definitely better than I had feared. The four turrets are nice when running away. The rudder shift is really my biggest gripe. It's annoyingly hard to dodge shells compared to the Baltimore.
The Zao Is still my favorite tier X and a definite dark horse for those that play that ship. Its not a brawler by any means but having 21% fire chance without DE and flags is phenomenal. I run the range mod on the Zao over the Legendary which gives me extra standoff. the gun dispersion is good on the Zao that I dont really need anymore from the Legendary module. I dont mind burning ships down from a distance and kiting with the Zao which it was known for back in the day and itcan still do the job. Now, the Des Moines is a support/ DD hunter cruiser. If set up right, you can get the radar to be up to 53 seconds total uptime and have 18.8KM range. Halsey or John Doe (Originally known as Steven Segal) are great commanders which they give you that gun feeder/turret traverse bonus. I have my Des moines and will play that as well.
I got the DM recently, I felt in love with her, the DPM that it has is insane. As potato sayed, it's a very versatile ship, my kind of play style is to spam HE until mid game, and then play in a aggressive way, like brawling, using AP, etc. And it works perfectly for me, I have a 66% Winrate btw
I do enjoy sailing my U.S.S. Des Moines. One of the few ships that is still kicking it in the newer game.
The Des Moines was actually the first tier ten ship that I got in the game.
It helped me out in clan battles.
I even got the improved mod on it.

My first T10 was the Petro, I then got the Des Moines, ever since, I have actually sold the Petro since that ship was so infuriating for me to play(I'm no expert at the game, only have 1700 battles, and a 55% win ratio, but I have something for consistency which the Petro didn't seem to provide).
The Des Moines from first ever game in it just felt like such a beast, the reload with the proper build down to 4.8 seconds straight off the bat when enemies get within 10.9km, is really nice. The AP and HE are both very usable, can deal with anything, its really good at just hugging islands(using the prop mod, I don't have legendary upgrade).
Ever since I got Des Moines, Ranked has gotten so much easier, no longer get focused and see priority target light up with 7 enemies targetting me like often was the case in Petro since everyone wants a chunk of you... DM never gets into a situation where so many can aim at you because, Islands, Islands and again Islands! I like the DM so much I got the Salem just so I can farm credits easier, while using basically the same ship.
I like gameplay videos with a lot of commentary explaining your game choices.

Des Moines is super versatile, everyone should have it.
I also have the DM since 5 o 6 years ago. Have several tiers 9 and 10. The DM is the one I play almost always. Quite consistent ship and balanced having in mind MoneyGaming.
I just got into the game this year and the first line I went down was the Des Moines line. About to get the Baltimore and I’m ready to see what the hype for these higher tier cruisers are all about!

Well if you're going old school with the Des Moines you really need to follow up with a video on the Hindenburg.
Both of these ships have done a credible job of withstanding the test of time. They both are flexible in play styles, rewarding of good aim skill, and help develop strong tactical sense. Both teach one the basics of good cruiser play, much like the N. Carolina does for BB's. I get asked this question by new clan members and I cannot recommend one without the other.
The Hindi in itself is the Jack of all Trades Cruiser
I got the salem as my second tier X cruiser after henri iv, and I must say, 203mm guns with a 4 second reload is very impressive for a heavy cruiser. i can just batter any ship with HE spam and get some neat high damage games. Overall one of my favourite ships as a cruiser player.
Bought Salem 2 weeks ago and I can agree it made me wanna go for DM since I had massive fun and success in the Salem
Essentially a light cruiser with legendary mod. You need to carefully position and avoid too much exposure.

Just got mine last night! My first tier 10 tech tree ship. I love it on the test ship and it's got to be better than the Buffalo!
This is really good ship that every match, enemies particularly cv will instantly prioritize killing you once you've been spotted. Thats how great this ship is because once this ship is on good position and left unattended, it willcause havoc and give you a bad day with its 203mm and insane dps
Got it recently. I have fallen in love so much with the raw dpm this thing has that I’m going to buy the Salem, just to survive a little bit more with the super heal. I know everyone says it’s a “worse” DM, but I don’t care, that super heal is tempting me a lot…
the citadel of Salem is slightly lower too.
I don't think it's worse, just different. The superheal definately makes you better against battleships and cruisers, where as Des Moines is better against DDs with the 10 km radar and hydro in a different slot. If you love Des Moines, you'll definately enjoy Salem too!😊
Salem is very good if you face alot of he. Ap will give you small heals and torpedoes, citadels will give you almost 0
Salem is fun, but don't expect to get a mino heal, you only heal 50%of pen damage so you usually don't get the full heal
@@seeskabel4561 Mino also only heals 50% pen damage, but it heals 50% citadel damage too, compared to 33% on Salem. So Salem is quite tanky if you only take ligth damage, but really suffers from citadels and torps!😊
The Des Moines is a great boat but only if you can hit things with the super floaty shells. I personally have never been able to hit anything with them so I do much better in the soviet cruisers.
Your first mistake right here: "if you can hit things with the super floaty shells". When you are trying to hit stuffs too far with a DM, you are already horribly out of position.
@@zobayer1 I'm not saying it's a bad ship. Just saying some people(including me) have a hard time hitting things in ships that have floaty shells, like the dm. In my experience, I'm dead in the dm before I ever get close enough to experience anything other than super floaty shells. You are probably much better at playing the dm than me. Give me a higher gun velocity cruiser and I'll give you a run for your money 'though.

Agree to Rob about the shells. I wasnt playing it for a long time. It can be really nice if you have cover and camping enemies. About aggressive play i‘m not so sure, when it came out you got citadels from the strangest angles, straight through deck when angled. Hope the buff mentioned did something on this. Will try her out more again now.
Des Moines was my first T10, I absolutely love this ship! If only it has an ice breaker

Des Moines and Salem are great. I set up Des Moines for reload and Salem for range. Since Salem has a shorter radar it makes sense to me that it does range over reload.
I have a preference for ships that were actually built or at least technically feasible. So. . . Not many choices at Tier X. The Des Moines is my only Tier X so far. (May get the Gearing at some point - about the only other one that fits that category.) Pro tip - get the permanent camo. Unless you want to play mostly the lower tiers to keep from going broke.
I have both Salem and Des Moines !!!! Both are excellent ships with a slight different playstyle due to different consumables !!! I regrind Des Moines line sometimes for RB points while Salem acts as a very solid captain trainer for it !!!!
Wooster and DM were my first two tier x cruisers. Wooster was very tough as a beginner, DM was and is a much more forgiving and fun ship to play.
I had fun with the Worcester. The legendary module on it is pretty trolly.

I personally really like the ship and enjoy playing it but it comes with its advantages and disadvantages.

I just picked up Balti, but stopped playing it to focus on the Khaba and Kurfurst before they leave for premium status. I'll pick up Khaba today and the Kurfurst by Friday!
Have had this boat a long time. Still a great ship even after all these years. I choose it over my petro or Moskva for clans. The Dpm and accurate guns are great.
Moskva with the legendary is pretty nice too. I like my moskva. I have yet to have the Nevsky or Petro.
@@CCM1199 I don’t mind Moskva. Just sucks it’s large detection range and the the regular AP vs Des Moines improved pen angles.
My fav playstyle in the desmoines is taking 20k through the deck from CV's.
Ap bombers do slap hard.

Got the Salem out of a Xmas container. But started the line currently sailing the Omaha can't wait to get the Des Moines
DM is my first ship of the day everyday. I'm kinda a boring team player type though so my dmg numbers tend to be smaller as i try to focus cap contesting and dd smashing.
DM was my first T10 ship. I've played 83 games in her but I still don't know about any specific style. The ship does rock and the vast majority of my struggles with her have more to do with the player and not the boat.

Des Moines was the first tier 10 I ground because I just wanted the ship becuase I knew about it real world. It is one of my most played ships, especially in ranked. Love it, love it, love it! Get it!!!!
Potato and Trenlass really helped me learn how to play the ship too. Look up any vid they have with Des Moines
Really like DM but the entire team will stop what they're doing and nail you as you approach the battle zone. You either need to wait and hang with the BB in back for a while or find a way to be very sneaky if possible.
I joined WoWs in 2020 and main destroyers and dabble in BBs. I don't play cruisers much at all. But I have worked my way to Baltimore and look forward to the Des Moines. I probably won't ever invest in Soviet Power Supreme Petro, but DM should be a treat.

I still really enjoy Des Moines. I’ve drifted from my other old favorite lines, but Des Moines is a ship I always keep coming back to. Can’t say the same for Salem, because what it gives up for that superheal and guaranteed DFAA isn’t worth it imo, but I’ll still roll DM out for a game every week.
I'm gonna say something very odd, but I don't own a Des Moines but I intend to grind it in a future. But many Des Moines players will be right in questioning the fact that I don't own it, but my point being I don't play often at tier 10 and when I do, it's often for clan wars (like what is happening right now).
Still I don't own it because there is often someone in my clan who actually has a Des Moines but other ships, like destroyers are less played and often crucial to victory, to get caps and such, hence why I'm focused on destroyers right now

Getting some experience in DDs is important for playing Des Moines later
What I do love about Des Moines in particular is that it's never weak, but it can be incredibly strong in certain situations, so it's not situation dependent, but if you can make a good play, it will be very satisfying, because you had to put various skills to use in order to ut yourself in advantageous situation
What a coincidence, I’m just about to buy the DM finally.
I got Salem first. Usually prefer to play CL, but the rate of fire, speed, and even the detection range let me use both Salem and Des Moines in almost exactly the same way whilst actually having some level of effective armour. Though even that is starting to seem like a dream of long ago with the proliferation of 18-20" guns.
I enjoy my Des Moine. Even more so in Clan Battles

My Salem (prem Des Moines) my first tier X is still my go to ship (Marceau is 2nd but I waited a long time before chancing it).

my favorite DM play is buried in an island lobbing HE because that’s what always kills me in BB’s

My first tier 10 was salem! I love it! It made me better player! If you learn how to play salem and dm and then jump to petro you re unbeatable!

I always found the Salem to be just a bit better, with proper positioning you wont be taking much chunk AP damage, meaning you can heal most of what you lose. That paired with Salem's better heal has led me to plenty of 200k+ games. Sure it has a worse radar, but I just use hydro to spot torps for more survivability, basically if you can get your Salem past the initial push/fight you're practically guaranteed high damage numbers.
Salem is now much better compared to DM cause DM's best utility, the never-ending RADAR is no longer as valuable as it used to be.
I did really like those map guides. It's sad how most people just look for short time entertainment instead of trying to improve :(

Don't wanna spend the research points on the Unique upgrade but that definitely seems worth it. As it is I play DM with range mod. I am not the best DM player but I almost always do well in her. Versatile, tough, high DPM. I just wish she had Mino's torps. 😂
Here in Asia, there is not much reason to play DM when you have Salem, There are CVs (and often 2 each team) in 99% of games. The entire map is always lit.

I think it's a very difficult ship to play well because it requires more map knowledge (including shell arcs) than most.
Yeah, but there is no replacement for DPM.
It’s not as forgiving as say a Petro or tanky cruiser. But I have beat Petros in brawls in clan battles before with it.
I have it but mostly playing only tier 6 BB
I got Salem for coal even if I don't research Des Moines for now and it's great. Recommend it to every player.
Desmo is love
I have the Desmo, but I just don't play it because I find it to be extremely agravating to play. I just find the Nevsky, Petro and Hindenburg to be more usable.
Tier 10 games are extremely passive and long range. So Desmo has become very hit or miss. I generally don't push or play agressively (in a battleship or cruiser) because it is almost suicidal and completely pointless, for it offers no extra credit gain and you can't rely on team supporting your push.
I own it, but I feel it is a bit dated in today's long ranged ranked Mata. Really struggles with 16km range on big maps. Still a fantastic ship for Clan wars. I just don't play it in ranked as much anymore.
She works well for me with range mod.
I think people miss this point. Every game type requires different ship types to do best now. IMO I run DD in ranked as I can solo save a match. Random is long range mostly, clan battles is boats that synergies well togther. DM 100% is great pick for that.
Been running ranked with DM with range mod averaging 150k plus per game 2500 base xp and haven’t lost a game yet over 8 games in good hands there’s still no better ship

Killed six out of seven ships in team clan battle in my Des Moines. Casual Captain was kind enough to put it on You Tube.
Does anyone else think that ship angle mod gives an unfair advantage? Some times I find it difficult to tell which way ships are angled unless I spend real time checking? The insta angle finder is something I would like to see removed from the game.
It's not in the game, so you can't remove it from the game. It's a mod listed in WoWS official list, so it's fine according to WG.
Is the grind to the Des Moines enjoyable though? I don't really want to suffer through 4-5 tiers for one good ship.
I never had issues, even with Pensacola (I had my first kraken with it). I'm still following Flamu's tips for USS's CL and I have superb results. Do not play in open water and you'll fine (at least for the first time)

I lucked out and received some free perma camo for this one. Though I got unlucky in that I got the bath tub freedom camo for it around November?... making it Freedom camo no 3... man, I hate the way this camo looks. Now I have 3 ships with it...

I have the DM, but am I the only one who doesn’t really play at tier 10? I grind for tier 10s but as soon as I get them they get benched to start on the next line.
I have the Des Moines, it's the first tier X i grinded. However I struggle with it. It's hard for me to use it to the best of its abilities.
I do get a good or a very good game every now and then, but consistency is what's lacking.
DM is deceptively hard to play and if your team is getting rolled you die fast. It's not a ship that can tank, it has very short range, and you have an exposed citadel. It is a good ship but I don't think it's one for everyone and especially those that play solo.
Des moines is a very easy and safe cruiser to play,the main strategy is to shoot your forward guns without being detected. A ship is detected by the enemy only from the middle of your ship, you can abuse this and shoot undetected.
If your team has stopped existing, then you are ******.
So to win with a Des Moines you have to take risks early on and hope that you have competent team members. Also you can do A LOT with its DPM. If you aim into the soft side plating of some BBs you can do 6600 dmg or more PER SALVO (with AP). You can take 30k of BBs between their reloads. I especially like rushing Yamatos and Conquerers with it because their turrets are so SLOW.
That being said: My WR has tanked in it. I average about 55% with it now. I average 62% in Stalingrad... 65% in Petropavlovsk.
Like you guys say, it seems to be very team dependent at least for a noob like me. Maybe I'll get a good hang of it one day
Played demoines during beta. And aftet the 3 account wipes i went through until official release didnt grind it again, nowadays i just play salem over Des Memes.

Me in my DM: Ok, match just started, heading towards this island ... aaaaaaaand I'm dead.
Murdered a Yamato between its two releads with a DM just a few days ago, almost all the shells were citadel hits. And he was almost full hp. This ship is 10/10 when plebs try to brawl you.
Good ship, strong in it's class, but a simple mistake and u are checking for endangered marine life on the bottom of the ocean.

A lot of creators make compilations filled with memes that are very popular. I don't see you as a memelord or whatever, but I think you could make a twist on the compilation concept. My idea is "tactics compilations." Quick-bite segments of you commenting on curated clips that demonstrate good play. It might be a little more entertaining and approachable for the casual audience while still sticking to your brand of educational wows content
