The white piece that moves is called a "microwave open lever" or "Microwave Latch Bracket". If that part is broken, a replacement can be purchased easily for about $10. The part that holds the open lever in place (hinge socket), is usually integrated into the plastics of one of the front panels.
Yay the screwdriver twist method worked to get my microwave door open! I wanted to remove the outer case before I went looking for help but I could only get a few screws off, and the rest are stuck 😕 I would have had to leave my cup of milk in the microwave all night because I can't use a power drill at 1am - and of course the door releaser has to break at such an hour 🤦♀️ Anyway, this video gave me the confidence to force the microwave door open so thanks for the tip and visuals of the mechanism 🙂
@@kd_enterprise3404 I showed my partner your video and he is now taking the microwave case off. He had to use a security screwdriver to get one screw off - no wonder I was having such a hard time! We are going to try to glue the little broken bit back together *fingers crossed*. My partner also mentioned that maybe a 3D printer could make a replacement piece if we were desperate?
@@duniajlynn925 sounds good.. hopefully you can get something to work..I know very little about the plastics available for 3d printers but I’m guessing different durability types would be available.
Fixed! My lever wasn't broken - I don't think it was properly installed in manufacturing. Had some trouble figuring out how to get around the security screws on the cover. Anyway, you inspired me to try and now my microwave is as good as new!
fixed mine with some blue tack and superglue! the ring to hold the latch bracket snapped so it would move out of place. resealing the ring with blue tack and hardening it with superglue worked a charm!
Nice video man. My almost brand new samsung micro got a bit loose lever button it opens the door lock bit then you have to open it with your hand!! Will give it a look later.thanks
9:37 "It might be okay, but I have no idea." That sort of casual honesty is why you'll never be able to rip off people at $100.00 an hour for something that takes five minutes and $5.00 to repair. 😏 Best wishes from Vermont ❄️
Ah this explains what happened to my microwave today. Only had it for a few months and I didn't keep the receipt. Luckily the Best Buy I got it from is still selling the same model so I could buy a new one and uh "return" the old one.
@@kd_enterprise3404 twisting the screwdriver to get the door open amazed me! I've got a full cup of coffee trapped inside mine. I hope the screwdriver method works!
My open door button is still opening the door, but it gets stuck when pushed in, and i gave to slam the door u till it pops back. Maybe now i can fix it, thanks
wondering what would happen if you sawed off the latch(es) and then used tape (or something) to hold the door shut while operating. Admittedly dodgy as a fix - but if the casing doesn't come off are there alternative work-arounds? btw - neat video - thanks
It could be done, but investigate, the latch mechanism may have a switch in it to confirm the door is closed.. overall I can’t recommend doing that because it’s probably not the safest thing to do for several reasons…. 😝. I dunno be careful.. thanks for the comment.. if you need a new one, and nothing fancy to heat up a bowl of noodles or a coffee, just buy a new one for super cheap… some under 100 bucks, or goto those thrift type stores… good deals to be had….
Some people just like to see how things work, and the options you might have. At least you know if you want to take yours apart, or throw it out.. that was the point... thanks for watching!

Glad it’s working… have a good day…

😃🆗 it happens…. 👊
genius...
Same thing happened to mine. Seems such a waste to throw away the whole working microwave just because a little bit of plastic has failed. Bad design
Thanks for the comment!

It's always a cheap plastic part that seems to break first on everything. Sigh. Thanks for saving my afternoon coffee at least.

Ready to punch the person who decided to make my top panel unopenable with proprietary security screws 😡
Hear ya, but you can buy them online… frustrating….
I just pulled the door
Thanks from Pakistan. Worked!
Have a good day!
My microwave oven upper cover is not detaching. Seems like it has a screw on the right internal side attached with panel.
YD: Tq for the video.
It helped me with my problem.
Supian Safar perfect..
I have the exact same problem , same assembly on my sharpe, built 2016....planned obsolescence!
Mine is stuck on and my door is closed
I'm not sure what to make from this video. I'm no more better off than I was before I spent 10 minutes on it. Also felt too much commentary.

You figured out why your door failed...
My mikeawvae was closed because I pushed the button to low but I had to push it hard
I just punched the door and it opened
Wow 😂😂😂
Thanks!
blushpink 44 thanks for watching!
Yes there is a Krgetler- here on UA-cam that fixed his leaver with a lego and some epoxy💯🙌🏼🙌🏼 handyman engineering 😆❣️❣️ great video check him out
Whose looking to see if it works 😝
Fahim Ahmad True, depends if you want a microwave coming through your window at 1 a.m.
