@@fixitwithzimHey there. Your video is terrific. Thank you for sharing it with the world. However, with my particular latch problem, the only part that broke was the plastic piece that has a hole in it to keep the upper hook-type-part in place. The one that houses the hole for the spring is in great shape and the one below that for the lower hook-type-part is in great shape. It’s just that the top area doesn’t stay put since that plastic securing piece broke off. So, the door will not close. I just tried all sorts of things to try to keep it in place / offer resistance when closing the door. No luck. Since this microwave is discontinued, are we just totally out of luck? Please let me know what you think. THANK YOU!

  • @terjeVDL

    Fantastic!!!
We heard a moderately loud bang in the kitchen and didn't figure out for a few minutes that the light in the microwave was on. Turns out the latches on the door moved up and down freely. My wife searched for the model number of our 12 year old Sharp 1200 W unit. Found them from numerous big-box stores. In the middle of the microwave suppliers, she noticed a few fix-it posts. She read one to me and indicated that I should try it. The written description was a bit confusing - so I asked if there were any images. She found your site and I immediately understood what and how to do it!. Taking the picture frame off the door was easy - found the broken post from the door - the spring was hiding on the bottom ledge, not easily visible because it was against the front cover under one of the metal blades. Once I retrieved it with tweezers, I followed the instructions on your video and in less than 5 minutes, saved $200 and a trip to purchase a new microwave. I'll keep your channel in mind for future fix it needs.
    Nicely done!

SO glad I found this - called an appliance company today and was told microwaves are basically disposable today, and the $250 call fee would be more than it's worth to fix it. Then I found this, came home, and fixed it in five minutes. Much appreciated!

this is the most clear instruction on how to fix that broken spring holder, didn't know how to attach that spring back but when you mention not to glue it back and just attach the spring onto one of the grove then that was my que to start doing it, took me 5 minutes to get it fixed, thank you very much for this video , i appreciate it...

Thank you doesn't seem like enough. I am a stay at home mom who is waiting for a dishwasher and dryer delivery this week. I found out this am that my husband's brakes need to be looked at. When my microwave door broke today, I cried. Now I am walking around with all the confidence after fixing it. I may not disclose to my husband how easy it actually was, thanks to you.

This video is so helpful and saves my GE microwave every 4 years. As a frequent user every day of my microwave, the plastic bottom edges of the latch hooks will wear down from friction causing the internal switches not to be pressed down far enough. The result is the internal light and blower stay on. Originally I had GE tech support come out, along with a $200 service charge all they did was recommend replacing the entire microwave! So, many thanks to you guys for creating this video!

Thank you!!! I could not believe how simple it was to fix our sharp unit. It’s virtually identical with exception that the spring is much much smaller. I used a paper clip so I can keep the tension the same when attaching to the metal part. It’s working perfectly now! Thanks so much!

Excellent video. At first, I thought that the latch piece that hold the spring was broken, but when I removed the trim piece two pieces of broken plastic hit the floor. I looked at the latch and saw that it was intact. So my problem became making a repair to the plastic (glued in!) insert that hold the other end of the spring. I knew there was no way I could repair it that would have a lasting effect, even with Gorilla Glue. I would still have glue it into the body of the door, and my gut feeling was that would be just as ineffective. I find that searching for repairs and repair ideas are plentiful on UA-cam, so I entered my problem. Voila! Up comes your video. Solved my problem in a matter of minutes. Microwave is now operating as normal. Thanks, Zim . . . you helped me save a bit of money.

Thank you so much! I am so glad that you made this video. Our microwave door hasn't been working for almost a month now, I found other videos that suggested that I buy a replacement latch system (which didn't work) and others that suggested I buy an entire door assembly (that costs 180 dollars!). I've been wracking my brain trying to decide if I wanted a repair person to come out to do this repair or just get a new microwave and this morning I figured "I'll look it up one more time" and found your video. Perfect timing bc now my husband and I can enjoy our Chinese leftovers the way that God intended :D lol. Thank you!!
