I was thinking the same exact thing. About 8 years ago when I first got into this movie, I used to feel sorry for Steven but now it’s like the more I watch it, the more my 25 year old self sees Steven for the self absorbed asshole he really is. Yes, Chip’s methods were undoubtedly extreme but he ultimately never meant to harm anyone. Yeah, I know it’s just a movie, but I still feel super bad for Chip

That's what I think so too. Chip had a valid point. Steven only called him when his cable went out. Steven seemed selfish and like a user. 😐

It's almost as if Chip was an employee with guidelines and ethics regarding customers. But yet Steven is the bad one

@@backfru well to be honest, chip in the beginning was pitching to him to hang out with him so he could show him the satellite and steven accepted it half-heartedly. He was throwing the pitch for friendship in the beginning. I know a car mechanic and id hang out with him anytime. The only problem is, the mechanic himself does not wanna hang out with me. The irony right? lol

It’s scary to think they were being recorded the entire time so Chip could hear exactly when he was going to call him (and also use anything he could as blackmail in the case that things go south) so he could bang on the door to make his entrance
Underrated movie.
And one of Jim Carrey's best!
My God Broderick's character was such a whipped little wimp in this movie...
And it worked perfectly for the movie.

Jims acting with his facial expressions are ridiculously good and funny i always compare his face acting skills to bryan cranston both of them can pull faces that literally say entire emotions without saying a word just look at how many expressions he goes through when he says tadah compared to when he was pissed with him its gold

This movie apart from being hilarious to me growing up..really was unique in representing the male bonding dynamic, ego, attachment, homoerotic friendship, and mental health in general. Ben Stiller deserved more recognition for these insights in his early career.
His movies are really dark I'm not sure why for a bright funny dude it's like he goes into wormhole when directing envy with jack black was also dark humour
@@davemustaki134 I don’t remember Envy too well but I think Walter Mitty was lovely, very..insightful and whimsical if you haven’t seen it. Prob his best work
@@Aimlessartist I didn't mind Walter Mitty it did jump the shark here and there I prefer his comedy but I did kinda enjoy Greenberg he goes through a nervous breakdown and is recovering in the movie envy was mid 2000's I think I know I watched around 06 maybe 05? Nice chatting anyway you don't get too much of that on here nowadays

I can understand Cable Guy’s need for friends and family. He just didn’t make the right approaches.
Jim Carrey is the only actor who can be funny and scary at the same time. And the lisp is genius.

I always felt like Matthew Broderick's character was so unlikable compared to Jim's.

Chip wasn't your normal cable guy, because a normal cable guy you can report any off the wall behavior to his manager. But Chip worked for himself, so he thought he could make all his own rules. He would never get away with doing what he did if working for a legitimate cable company. I wonder what his other customers thought of his ways, it seemed like it didn't bother them, when seeing them at the karoaki party.

Nah, you’re wrong! He’s a psychotic sociopath who demands that any “friendship” that he’s involved with is carried out on his terms! His irrational obsessive behavior would result in a violent confrontation within a week or two!
Yeah, it was an overreaction from Chip, sometimes you are busy and don't have time to call someone back right away, and Chip was calling Steven obsessively again and again, almost to the point of harassment.

He was just trying to impress Robin when saying he was his friend. It shows how Steven had low self esteem, he felt the need to insult his boss's hair just to impress her, someone confident doesn't feel the need to do that to impress a woman
