    Jim Carey was really showing off his range here,
    creepy, disturbing, but also incredibly funny,
    not too many actors can play a character like this.

      Yes, thank you! Thank you for recognizing that Jim is talented and versatile… I’m so sick of ignorant people saying BS like “he always plays the same character” or “he always plays Jim Carrey” I’m so sick of hearing that. Jim Carrey is the most versatile and amazingly talented comedian in cinema history. He plays different characters in all of his movies and gives us surprises in all the movies he’s been in, he never gives us the samething twice… unless he’s doing a sequel like that Ace Ventura sequel

      I think that if Steven hadn't said that "You're gonna get some high marks" to Chip, Chip would've more likely just seen Steven as another customer and not as someone who he thought was offering friendship and therefore try to latch himself onto him like he did. In other words, without the "high marks" comment, Chip would've more likely have left Steven alone. But of course, if that had happened, there would be no movie

    • @nsasupporter7557
      @nsasupporter7557 Рік тому +2

      @@alvexok5523 I think there was more to it than that. Chip was already desperate for a friend anyway and the whole encounter with him and giving Steven free cable and then agreeing to hang out with him got Chip thinking they were friends

    • @alvexok5523
      @alvexok5523 Рік тому +2

      @sambraham4677 Jack Black's character was definitely more straight and less funny than many of his future characters were going to be, I guess at this point he hadn't quite found his style yet.
      Owen's character was really unlikable here, the way he talked to that waiter. If he'd done that in the movie "Waiting", they would've done some nasty things to his food.

    • @alvexok5523
      @alvexok5523 Рік тому +3

      Ben Stiller didn't have any speaking parts here, but was still scary looking in what he was shown as. Stiller actually had some nasty characters in his earlier movies, in his pre-Meet the Parents days. His role as nursing home staff in Happy Gilmore, he was a straight-up jerkass.

    I can just close my eyes and imagine "Adult" Simba & Horton the Elephant in place of those two characters.
    (since Broderick & Carrey voiced those two characters)
    Same thing with Alex, Po, & Lightning McQueen in Stiller's, Black's, & Wilson's place.

    You really do need to be a certain type to enjoy this movie. Basically an IQ higher than room temp and an appreciation of *ALL THINGS EDGELORD.* The film is almost like one pessimistic glass half full journey into madness
    I rememebr everyone i knew hating it except my one bud. To this day the smartest, darkest and most biting comedy I have ever seen

    0:24 Maybe it's just me but I could tell that Ben Stiller wanted to play the Cable Guy role but since he's not very well known, he gave the part to Jim Carrey. We have seen Ben play over-the-top characters and he could have pulled off the Cable Guy role.

    Cable Guy was such a brilliant hilarious movie. But American critics didn't get it and thought it was too dark, which was the exact point. It was a comedy version of that obsessive stalker genre.
