- A Fresh Start Part 1 No Man's Sky Beginners Guide 2024
This is No Man's Sky in 2024! I am starting a new game and giving tips to beginning players for ways to play No Man's Sky and how to get the most out of your time with it. There are a lot of mechanics in No Man's Sky that are not explained well for anyone jumping in for the first time. Hopefully you find some new things, and some help in this series. So, let's jump in!

THIS! This right here is a 'BEGINNER' guide. I must have tried 4-5 "beginner guides" for 2024 and they were waaaay too advanced. They start off exploring before I even know how to get my ship off the ground. Well done Jason Plays. Well done.
Tbf,the game literally walks you through that
agreed same thing. looked at a bunch of vids and they jump way forward.
Agreed. The "other" beginner guides definitely gloss over so many basic things and explain it like you have some knowledge of the game already
@@ghoulishgam3r508 lol, exactly.. I was waiting like is there going to be something I do not know or what? I just started the game the other btw
Ozzmosis210 - 100% well said. This is great. Brand new player, this was an awesome overview from ground zero.
I've had this game since day 1 and 450 hours on my main save and I never realized the lights on the back of the backpack were life support and hazard protection.
right? me either in 600 hours
Me feeling like an ultra nerd at ~2k hours and my longest playthrough was right at 700 hours. I have no idea what I am doing anymore.
To the new players of NMS, welcome! I hope you have a great time!
To jason, thanks for making this!
Thinking about downloading it for my son but $30 seems steep for an older game...whatcha think?
Bro I got this game on accident and didn't touch it for a year! I played it last week for the first time, now 22 hours later I'm hooked!
I'm playing on psvr2 and it is amazing!
@@AngryDad. it’s totally worth it I’m 30 now been playing it since I was 22 😂
@@djlazzie damn, didn't get it. Maybe next time it's on sale again
No matter how many times you do a fresh start, I always find myself watching the entire series, no matter how long I've been playing. I'm SUPER looking forward to your Light No Fire playthroughs and tutorials.
I did the same when i went back to Starfield . But Burnout ensued on the second run , and so I'm here again.... So much better , as the improvements are easier than before.
Because of Jason, whenever I start a new game. I never touch my starter ship. It's more fun that way.
Just trying to find a freighter
I've tried watching one of NUMEROUS NMS tutorials, where the video creator tries to jam this entire, complex game's tutorial within 10 minutes or less, and it just sounds like one unbroken sentence, as they even cut out the much needed breaks/pauses between words, points, resulting in 10 minutes wasted on listening to someone Eminem-rap it. THANK YOU for your sensible, real-life tutorial, I guess it was a lot to want, and ask, since very few do it right like you. I've played the game, just had started, maybe have a few hours in it, but feel like I need this, especially since I had to take a break from it after not playing very long at all, needing a refresher too. 🍻🍻!!!
This is my first “sci fi” game ever. All of the names/materials/menus can be overwhelming. I appreciate this walk through so much!
Yea the overwhelming is frustrating me atm :P
This 2023 series got me into the game.
And last night, I got my first S-class pirate dreadnaught.
What a journey it's been...
I just start. This game is so good. I regret not playing earlier
This is one of my favorite games but believe me when I say this. It's better you waited even a couple years after launch. The criticism at launch was deserved but as time goes on it only gets better
@@michealhicks8013I'm honestly surprised to see they're still pumping out updates. Although it is weird that they never patched the refiner dupe glitch. Wonder if they left that in as a "feature."
Bro I just got the game due to omega and i was confused what to watch on your playlist for it. You saved me hours by this. Your the best
Just what I wanted right now. Played it when it first came out but put it down for 10 years. Looking for a refresher to ease me back into the game. Subbed.
Great video. Just started playing this game and was very lost with the game mechanics making my progress so slow. You did a great job of explaining the noobish concept and making the game make sense. Thank you
I'm still gonna say it: Don't junk the slime stuff from the damaged containers/machinery. You can refine that over a few steps into nanites, which are always welcome. Rusted Metal just gives you Ferrite Dust, so I get not caring too much about that.
Funny enough, I restarted no man's sky yesterday for the first time since febuary of last year. So this will be a fun ride along!
As a brand-new player considering of buying this as it’s on sale thank you so much for taking the time to do a professional new players guide. I can’t wait to watch this as I really think I want to play this game, but it looks a bit deep, so really looking forward to this series.
I just started. I have about 20 hours in. Just finished the atlas discovery and can't believe how awesome the game is!
Literally hate getting off every night at 3AM
Lol, I'm usually on til two AM. 800 hours in and I still can't put it down.
Oh gosh…thank you so very much !! This is by far the best guide I’ve seen. It is difficult stumbling around trying to figure out this game on your own. Thank goodness I only had an hour in when I saw this - I just started over so I could make sure to scan items to upload, and gather more materials before taking off. :). Thanks again !
~46:00 The reason to put basic carbon into a portable refiner is because it always returns unused fuel as basic carbon, no matter what you used to fuel it. Therefore always use basic carbon as its fuel unless you can guarantee it'll use the entire fuel tank, in which case use whatever you want (it's fractionally more economic to use condensed carbon in such a case, but the difference isn't significant except for v early game or you're otherwise resource-poor)
The 'pick up & put down' buildings are mostly prefixed as 'portable', & they will always be presented in the first tab of your construction screen. Other buildings return materials only & need to be reconstructed; material return is dictated by whether you're in range of your (group's) base computer or not: if 'yes' the return rate is 100% in a Normal difficulty game
You recharge hazard protection faster if underground or in a building as opposed to being in a vehicle
On /any/ planet, all recognised plant life is scannable, including resource plants (the red/yellow/blue flowers) & hazardous plants with 1 (ONE) exception: hazardous cave spores are not scannable. This applies to all animals (except giant worms) & rocks too. There will be ~3 to ~30 scannable plants & rocks per planet; fauna varies from 0 to ~25 depending on the planet's environmental & biome traits
Rarely when you first start you may use all your carbon for mining. Don't worry, melee will give you rescores from a node so if you run out of carbon punch a plant.
Not played for ages, going to need some help, What's This...JASON!!!!!!! Gonna be just like old times. Thank you so much for not forgetting us. Best NMS tutorials ever. Number One. Our hero. 🏆🏆💝
Took like a 3 month break from NMS, making a new save right now. Gonna see how progress compares
So glad you are doing an updated guide especially since you read all the dialogue and show the story missions. I am sure I have forgotten some of it or missed it or maybe skipped through it. So thank you so much.
I completed around 90% of the main story on normal difficulty before changing difficulty settings (infinite fuel, free crafting/building,) just to help me find a good home planet. Although i have regrets for not "getting the full experience" it helped me enjoy the game more post story. For someone who might find the game tedious or just doesn't have a lot of time I would suggest doing this.
or just dupe
Finally a true beginners guide that can teach a slow learner like myself. Soon I will be able to start playing and hopefully enjoying this when I'm not making content.
Have owned NMS for awhile, finally debating on playing it and wanted to check out a guide. 5mins in and how you are explaining things is awesome, had to subscribe and like just from that. I am glad I was able to come across this series to check out and learn some things before I dive into the game, so thank you for that
Dude …. This was super helpful
I’m late to this game and I’m glad I’m here.
I was really lost when I started since there wasn’t much direction. You are gunna be my guide from here on out while playing if I need help lol. This game looks super fun so far and I didn’t scratch it he surface. Can’t wait to see what it holds for me
Wow Jason finally clarity, simplicity and no nonsense tutorial. I’m a new player approximately one week in. THANK YOU!
✋Finish 3 times since launch but I need a refresher since I haven't played in a couple of years. Watched your videos on my last run so I know I'm in the right place for good content.
The team behind this game is truly brilliant, or a few of the guys, or the synergy, because it shows in this game. It is so amazing that this game keeps on growing, expanding, resurrecting over and over again and doing it so well, it's like CHER of the games! I can't believe the new expansion that was just dropped!! Which is what got me to this video and playing the game again - Had to reactivate Xbox Gamepass as I don't own it, and I did it just for this game.
Thank you for actually making a "beginners" guide! I think people forget what it is like to be a true beginner.
Something I learned is that for those green rectangular cargo drops normally holding rusted metal (24:06), after removing the rusted metal or whatever is in there, check it again and a 'X' with a circle should appear labeled 'Search'. They will give you a nice item. Just a hint. 😁
I love the look of this game. It just went on sale, half price on the Playstation Store. So I am definitely buying it today. I'm really excited, I've been wanting to play something like this for a long time. Especially since I never bothered purchasing Starfield for my Series X last year nor do I plan on buying it ever. Because why would I? It is garbage compared to this game and I was greatly disappointed with the things people were showing me. I feel like now is the best time to Jump into No Man's Sky. I only heard of this game late last year lol so I'm very late getting here. I heard it had a bad start many years ago. But I'm so glad they turned it around. Thank you so much Jason for a very good run down of the beginning of the game. I can tell you really love this game, can hear it in your voice when you talk about every little thing. Happy to subscribe your channel and look forward to seeing more of your videos on this very cool game. Take care mate and keep up the great work.
It’s insane you released this yesterday because I JUST started playing yesterday. This is so helpful thank youuuuu
Same lmao
Same lmao
Thank you so much for this!! I haven’t played in a while and missed the launch of the last few updates! So much has changed and it’s nice to have a veteran lead us ‘rusty’ players back into it with the new features in mind ❤
When I initially bought NMS ages ago I subscribed to Jason's channel. Coming back to remember how to play and see if it is more fun with the updates😊
150 hours in and I'm just learning that you can just junk the rusted metal instead of putting it in your inventory to open the damaged container.....I'm blind 😂
A BIG THANK YOU for that video.. It answered so much question I was having with all those "not so intuitive" UI...... A quick note about what you mentioned around 23:45 about the "junk" stuff on the "Damage container" or "damage machinery".. When you come across "Living Slime" (marked as junk).. Well.. keep ALL THAT !!! Once Refined for a 1:1 ratio, you'll get "Runaway Mold"... than, if you refined that again (for a 5:1 ratio)... you'll get something very, very, very handy..... Lovely Nanites.
Thank you mate! I always wanted to try this game, I have it in game pass, but never really got into it, all other sort of tutorials I’ve watched , have always been confusing to me. I just finished starfield , and thought of giving this game another shot, and randomly found this video, and I find it very beginner friendly. Thank you!
Got this game when it came out and put it down…just bought it again and I’m loving it but I’m so lost and easily distracted. Like today I stumbled into a way better ship on a planet on fire and I claimed it by accident and couldn’t find my other ship so I had to learn the hard way how to survive while also repairing the ship to get off the planet XD GREAT SHIP THO! Just one of many times I’ve gone out for buried data to progress the quest and got distracted…
@@LysdexicPadna you didn't lost your first ship, you can summon it! You just added the one you found to your collection 😀 later on, you can take the ones you don't want anymore to the station and salvage it! But keep one you don't care so much for when you travel to new galaxies because it will partly destroy your equipment, so never travel to a new galaxy with your best equipped ship 😀
Just picked NMS up as it's on special and my girlfriend gave me a Steam voucher recently..... so with the new update I'm getting a decent game for $15 I think haha. Never played before so thank you for this series, it's gonna be a real help
Yo Jason man thanks for this vid bro I just got this game yesterday and I managed to get of planet name 2 and discovered a new one but man when I started I was i a icy planet I've seen a couple of these videos so everyone starts in a different planet from the looks of it
Great video ! I was lost when I began playing NMS - until I found your videos. Thank you for your detailed information. I'm learning so much. Looking forward to #2.
So I launched nms for the very 1st time. 30mins in and I’m still floating in the void. Is this normal? Restart doesn’t work.
No, should be two min load screen. Dud you figure it out?
This game is the confirmation that we will never meet aliens. Even with the technology to travel in space, thare are so many planets, that will be pretty impossible to meet someone else... Sad
Thank you very much for this video. This is a true beginners guide, helping me with some of the starting problems i had, like getting a visor. Well done!
Worth a mention that you can set the amount you want to craft on the right side in the refiner. And also the the living slime and mould refine down to nanites if you refine them enough.
I am enjoying the game but so far I like astroneers more. It did help when I turned off vibrate which ruins mining for me.
Jason your my No Man's Sky go to guy. Keep them coming, and thanks.
Just LoL @18.40 "If you scan a hundred of 'em, that's 2,000!"
Math is hard!
J/K! I love this video! Just coming back to NMS, after a few years and this is crazy helpful.
I have never experienced a Major headache playing a game before I tried this game yesterday but unfortunately had to get off and go to bed because of how bad my migraine was
I started a new game yesterday after not playing for awhile, great timing.
Liked/subscribed ten minutes in. Great teaching style and pacing. Hopefully the new 5.0 patch (which led me to seek out a vid like this) does you all sorts of favors. Thank you
I think the goop stuff is somewhat important to just junk as it turns to nanites after a few rounds in the portable refiner. which is somewhat a rare currency for new players.
I just started playing this past weekend. It's fun so far. A little conplex. There are definitely some mechanics that the game does not explain. Having fun, though. I hope this vid clears some things up. I've avoided media for the game up til now, but this popped into my feed, so I'll check it out right now!
Edit: Great 1st day guide. Not as helpful to me, because i did these things already, but im looking forward to the series. THE MELEE JETPACK TRICK IS GAME CHANGER THOUGH! Thanks for that!
Just started playing yesterday already love it
I gave up a while back as it was the glitchiest game ever (PS4).
I might boot it up and see if its any better.
Awesome guide 😃
Just started a new game after one year pause with your video as a parallel stream 👍
i just saw the update, im starting a freesh save again, i'm so hype with all this station upgrades and spaceship OMGGGG
Awesome video. Never played this game. I hear so much praise about this game and how it made a total comback. It was free on PS store one day so just got it at haven't played. I've been playing the outerworlds, so I'm sure this game will be dope.
This is a wonderful game for a married gamer who knows their way around complex resource management, etc, while being able to relax and spend time with my wife while I slowly and steadily enjoy NMS.
this game is nuts now! if it released like this..be the goat..game of years
Been thinking about buying this game... Thanks for this video... deffo buying it now! - Great content!!
I make a new Game too☺ 👍
No Man's sky so good and i have 1100 hours in Game time☺ and now in PSVR2 unbelievably good. I'm curious how many more hours will be added
Day 1 player. Started a new playthrough for the update and my second planet is a paradise planet
In case you find another stranded ship, you will have the possibility to claim it so don't hesitate if it has better stats and more slots. You will not lose your first ship, you can summon it! You just added the one you found to your collection 😀 later on, you can take the ones you don't want anymore to the station and salvage it! But keep one you don't care so much for when you travel to new galaxies because it will partly destroy your equipment, so never travel to a new galaxy with your best equipped ship 😀
@@nathaliecarluccio7559 uh ...not sure why you replied to me, bud.
Thank you so much for these videos! I had no clue what I was doing and was so frustrated with the game but after watching your videos I understand and I'm having so much fun!! Thank you Jason for such a great video!!!!❤
I didn't understand your explanation for why you should use carbon instead of condensed carbon in the portable refiner.
hey brother thanks for sharing this i just bought the game on a regular Xbox s and this is really helpful to learn how to make things and money
Just started playing again, my last save was November 2017😂. Did have to do a 15Gb update
Fast nanites grind, small amounts.
1. Create figurine in ship.
2. Use Store Technology on figurine.
3. Sell it for 16 nanites in Station.
4. Repeat
16 nanites for 10 carbon. Gotta be a bug.
I played this for awhile, and loved but for some reason i stopped. you make me want to play this game.
I stopped to but I just got back in. It's a lot to take in at first and I think I was just overwhelmed but the game actually guides you very well. There's really no true destination yes there are missions but this game is for you to do what YOU want. Hunt for ships, mine different minerals in space make bases and farms it's literally up to you just pay attention to what the game tells you to do
Thanks for this, just bought the game on GOG. So excited to get into it.
I just started playing and I need a video series like this
the long awaited 2024 guide is here after the 4.0 guide.. Lets go.....Love your streams jason
God bless you... not sure I could start a new character without expeditions... lol going through the story was great the first time... but cannot find myself able to do it again a second time and I have 13 characters or saves... but yeah the story was good one time... thank goodness for the Expeditions otherwise I'd not replay this game much...lol
I use to play this game a lot a few years ago, right before companions update and I miss this game, I want to play again so bad, probably will but I still think this game is missing something and that is actual battle. The story is all about the war ending which I liked but I could never get over building up ships, armor and weapons like you can just to have tiny battles here and there.
Comment over, just being bored and I'm curious if people agree?
I remember leaving feedback one time about how they could:
1. Reignite the war, you could pick a side to team up with and depending on which side you help means you have access to upgrades from that group that other groups don't offer. Be a mercenary that doesn't pick a side, does dirty missions that picking sides don't allow where you make way more money, access to all 3 groups upgrades but never the S tier, or something idk.
2. My favorite, create a new enemy (like the replicators in Stargate or the horde in Halo) that comes in numbers certain times of the irl year. We fight them back by collectively killing enough of this enemy before they have to rebuild numbers never knowing when they will attack again. They should be hard and attack bases and ships so that during the time they rebuild their numbers we rebuild our stuff, almost like PvP but the devs/new enemy are the enemy that will wipe you if you aren't playing but not a constant enemy. 2 months later update happens and the enemy is everywhere, 1 month later (depending on how many are destroyed) so it could be less time, update happens, they are gone and we rebuild. This enemy never dies but we could find floating bases in certain system and the more we destroy the less the enemy will be next wave. Enemy bases can spawn in your system and you can have friends help destroy it. You can go solo or take on missions where you team up with one of the factions to help destroy the common enemy, the more you help different factions they help you by working for you.
3. something or anything to use my weapons and ships against.
I love the chill and peacefulness of the game and why I would never want a constant enemy, more time without enemy 70% of the year vs with enemy 30%, but something to use pew pews on and then a reason to keep building and gathering resources would make this game something more special than it is already. I just realized its been 4 years, I thought it was around 2 years I need to play again.
Friendly Heads Up:
Dog fighting doesn't work in star field. Regardless of dodging or not moving at all, you will always take
3-6 hits. No fun in that play style, once you see it for yourself.
i played once for about 2 hours in 2022. I was stuck on a planet with nothing but acid rain all around. I had to keep finding salt. I managed to get off planet, but was instructed to land back on the planet and farm copper with no instructions once I got back on planet on how to find copper or how to mine it. I was not able to take off again and couldn't find any help. I put the controller down and never went back to the game. I might pick it back up for VR after checking this video out.
Jasons tutorial for Light no Fire 🤩 CANT WAIT!!!
Thanks for the help. Because I was lost at the beginning.
I needed this, i just got the game yesterday.
So glad to see a new series for this game!
Thanks to you I know what game I'm going to play after Starfield!
I like the new mode that allows me to have normal mode inventory but survivalmode dmg/environment ratings
i love the melee jetpack ive just learned that at 50 hours in oh my the time it saves me
They keep on saying the game is bugged and can't be reverted back to you're original save,I had no problems completing the exposition on my steam deck and switch without a problem
Thanks i started playing a few weeks ago so some of this was new for me
Wow. I was just thinking about doing this and it made me think of your channel.
I just started playing yesterday and Im sooooo hooked 🤣
I have this on Switch, but think I’m going to get it on Steamdeck as I’d assume it runs better there. And gets updates quicker
Got this Game Yesterday and been inhaling These Videos Not only Here but from Other creators . Very Handy indeed, i'd be running around Like a headless Chicken without some of These Tips and what n what Not to does😂
Just started my first playthru didn't watch the video till I played some so I don't spoiled my self
Thanks... I haven't played this game in alonger amount of time....I forgot...
Honestly... I don't remember it being anything other than... first person. Thanks helpfull!
Note... I bought the game as soon as I could and it was still jankie.... weird... and everything I ever had, all I built is now completely obsolete in most ways. Or I've weird stuff... I don't know what to do with what my freighter as it's completely different inside.
I have though about buy this game so many times... just cant pull the trigger to get it.
My worst spawn was a lvl 3 conflict with aggressive sentinels I had to delete it cause I couldn't leave the planet
My first world was HOT! your vids helped a lot thanks:)
Bro I just subscribed to your channel because I like how you explain things 👍🏾
I never got passed the initial screen flying through space. Any suggestions?
cant wait to tell my kids jason plays discovered the rocky crab on my birthday
I always hear “No Man’s Guy”.
200 per scan. if you scan 100, that adds up, you get 2000. math is mathing so mathily.
