      I disagree. Sure, dumber people tend to think about things less and rely more on their gut but thinking in and of itself does not make you smart, plus unchecked rumination can lead to mental illness. Being busy doesn't necessarily mean you're accomplishing anything, that's sort of like putting ten marbles in a cup and thinking as long as you keep shaking the cup to keep the marbles in motion you somehow have more than 10 marbles. You can increase your knowledge base, mindfulness, and reasoning skills (and functionally that would make you smarter) but that's just refining what you already have, you're still working with a finate amount of processing power. Some people are just "magically smart," born with a mind that has a higher processing capacity to reason and process the world. I, for example, am unfortunate enough to have an IQ that qualifies me as "intellectually gifted" and I did nothing to earn it. Yes I do probably think about things more than most but when I think I understand things deeper; I breezed through school with zero effort and just to entertain myself I sometimes tried to make assignments harder such as writing essays to fit the tune and structure of tv theme songs like the Brady Bunch. I used to drive teachers nuts because they'd give us an assignment and I'd raise my hand and tell them I couldn't do it. They'd ask why and I'd tell them the assignment was built on a faulty premise, then explain that in order to do the assignment as directed we had to assume certain things were true and those things had to also be built on things that were true, but if any of those things weren't true then the entire assignment was at best impossible and at worst an exercise in madness. Frankly I wish I was neurotypical because that's what the world is set up for, it honestly sucks, but 2.5% of the world is intellectually gifted, which doesn't mean they do anything with it or are benefited all that much by it, but it does make someone magically smart.

    • @matthewschafer6359
      @matthewschafer6359 Місяць тому +2

      @Keith-e5f That's a very good point. A lot of people can't shut their brain off and end up missing out on a lot of sleep and so they're constantly tired, irritable, and suffering brain fog. Also, studies have found that rates of mental illness are a lot higher in women than in men. The leading theory as to why (as least the last time I looked into it) is that many women think about things so much, play them over and over in their minds stressing themselves out, that they literally think themselves unwell. This theory was arrived at, I believe, by surveying women being treated for mental illness and looking for common denominators. While thinking is certainly necessary, I find it interesting that people who think too much become unwell while people who intentionally think very little (those with dedicated meditation practices) are rated the people who are the happiest, most content, and have the greatest sense of peace. The mind is a great servant but a horrible master.

  • @BradWilliamson
    @BradWilliamson Місяць тому +34

    OR maybe they overthink because THEY CARE SO MUCH, because THEIR VALUES ARE SO STRONG, thereby making them HIGHLY EMOTIONAL, STRONGLY DRIVEN, unwilling to make a mistake as a result of a poorly made decision. Hence the overthinking, because they are so determined to overcome how strongly they feel about something.
    Emotion is energy in motion. Like a hurricane. Hence the spiraling.
    I believe you're right: it IS difficult living life as an overthinker. But for many of us it's not because we are emotionless; it's because emotion-full. In other words: We care. A LOT.

    Wait.. this doesn't make sense. Men are are known for being logical, while women are known for being emotional. Yet, women are much more indecisive than men.

    • @jeremiekonegni4957
      @jeremiekonegni4957 Місяць тому

      Women were allowed to be indecisive. In ancient times an indecisive man still needs to protect the tribe. Men had no choice and resorted to improvisation if a decision could not be made. I'm sure a social filter came through for those that could formulate a plan and implement it, ie; fence around village, over those that would argue over wicker, logs or stone, but regardless, them men had to act regardless of the decision. Women can't make a decision because they are stuck in the emotional side of things and can't get to a logical solution. My penis carries a lot of emotion and I would absolutely build a fence, a moat, and a village and collect food if it gets to have fun. We might not consider it an emotion, but I'm almost positive a man wanting to get some is how we went from the stone age to the moon. Lol😂

    • @babybirdhome
      @babybirdhome Місяць тому

      As a man, it’s not that women are more emotional, because in my experience, it’s the opposite. Men are incredibly emotional, they just don’t display emotions openly because of social rules. Women, on the other hand, are expected to display emotions openly, and as such, they’re better equipped to be aware of them and to be able to keep them in check. You’ve confused social rules about display of emotions for having the experience of emotions.
      Men are the most emotional by far. That’s why you don’t see women out there getting into fights, killing each other, road raging, and all the other things that men are known for doing - all of those things are highly emotional behaviors and a result of failure of self-control and self-regulation of emotions. Those are things that women, as a population, are experts at and men are basically socially required to be emotional idiots.

    That's interesting! I read in the book "The Power of the subconscious mind" that only positive emotions drive a man to success.
    At times our ration logical brain couldn't process the Universe' s way of getting things done. That's the reason why an uneducated guy with faith in God prospers because he leaves the decision making on the higher intelligence of the universe and he just takes action towards his goal and let's God do the rest. A logical person wants everything to be planned according to his rational thinking process. But, his rational thinking maybe flawed because his experiences depends on his surroundings and his past experiences

    All the smart people I ever knew, knew exactly how to make decisions and what decisions to make. It's because of this sort of "impaired" emotion that allows them to think abit more logically. If you run solely on emotions then you tend to make the worst decisions. Think someone killing or hurting someone else out of anger or jealousy. Or think of someone acting out in fear. I don't know that smart people overthink, I think it's the not so smart more emotional people that overthink. I'm not close to smart, and I overthink a lot.

    In my experience, decision making based on emotions has nearly always led to disaster. And from what I witness in others the same is true. We just had an election to determine who our leader would be and that decision making process was rife with emotions. Nearly half the country decided the leader should hold office based upon gender and ethnicity, not proven qualifications. Another example that I find very curious is despite the advances and availability of contraception, abortion is a hotbed of emotion. Logic would dictate that society should expand, that every person has the opportunity to contribute, yet interrupting that is preferential.
    So I disagree- emotions hinder rather than promote.

The issues that drive motivation often stem from the ability to pecieve cause and effect chains. I often explain this by pointing out that there are more than just teo quantum states in Schrodinger's cat, but more often people simply default to the "two most likely". From my perspective the ferret rescued the cat from a hidden trap door the moment it was placed inside.

    Well I am smart and I get spooky dreams so much real that when I wake I'm like this terrible thing happened but actually it was just a dream and everybody's fine, I'm afraid that I hear voices sometimes which are very bleek so they don't hinder with thought process. More terrible thing is that my mother history had two brillant people with schizophrenia. I'm somewhat depressed about that too

    If you examine the clearly most intelligent people on the planet right now, youll note that they are also emotional people. Those who overthink are actually dysfunctional and axious - and not just intelligent.

      Sorry, but the psychologist at the VA started purposely canceling appointments and so did their contractors that didn’t show up and got paid anyway so you’re really not worth talking to anymore. The mental health system is a huge part of the problem in this country.. You don’t get any business unless you convince everyone that they’re sick.. I sat there for years with valid complaints against people and instead of them being held accountable I’m being held accountable for how I react naturally. We have felons running this country and I ran against them in 2020 and watch both political parties cheat. I’m retired military and I warned the world about COVID-19 five weeks before it hit the United States and they deleted 10,000 tweets and then physically attacked me over and over again. Have fun because it’s only gonna get worse.

      I called 988 to have them immediately hang up on me without answering the phone and now they just dumped the call because they can’t answer a single question about why narcissist criminals are running this nation and everyone is willing to lie. It’s all of you.

    • @XAirForcedotcom
      @XAirForcedotcom Місяць тому

      I deconstructed all of your bullshit. I saw mental health counseling for years just to be lied to and have them modify my medical records and when I caught them, they stopped answering anything, even though I’m the federal government.. all enemies for an in domestic and both political parties have been reported to the United Nations as criminal terrorist organizations because that’s exactly how they operate or you wouldn’t have a felon about to take office who has not been held accountable for his crimes to include manslaughter of 600,000 Americans that I absolutely know was done on purpose because I’m the one that warned everybody. There’s paperwork into three letter agencies all the way up to the United Nations, and no one‘s answering a single question when I am a trained disaster response, professional from the government.. ha ha have fun because they already stole everything that I had when I reported them for crime to include my house

      I’ve got all the paperwork sitting right here and complaints into the department of homeland security that I sit there and send them emails every day. John Fetterman wouldn’t answer a single question but instead sent me an LGBTQ letter saying that they’re working on humanitarian issues when I was reporting manslaughter and election interference and have the paperwork that they could easily go in and look at.. there is no excuse

    i think action happens after what i think of as intention formation.
    something like how capital formation facilitates the start of a new business.
    you need time to think about an idea, which starts a new neural circuit.
    intention formation of one idea strengthens neural circuitry of that idea
    along with natural dopaminergic pathways
    making it more likely to eventually occur.

    Smart is to take every thought captive as I think scripture discussed and not letting them take your peace. This is a spiritual decline in regard to overthinking which will tend to even more spiritual problems. Another example would be anxiety, ego or pride as some. Even potential offensive thoughts leading to spiritual attacks, chastisement or the pain that can be a part of healing and restoration.

    The thing you taught me is, we have to respect our individual personal agency as well as other's personal agency. We can grow and learn in a positive direction or in a negative direction. But, at the end of the day, everyone has to take ownership of their own personal agency and not to develop codependency and unhealthy patterns. It is a challenge, but not an obstacle.

    Well that accidental discovery is inconclusive. If that happens with people without access to their right side of their brain, what happens to people who don't have access to the left side of their brain? Would they live life as irrational animals, only going by their pure impulsive desires?
