  • A very emotional Joey Votto apologizes to Canadian baseball fans on Blue Jays Central, says his comments came from place of jealousy and pettiness, and couldn’t be further from how he actually feels about Toronto and his country.

    Joey had a beef with Baseball Canada and *NOT* with baseball in Canada.

    Imagine being in Vottos shoes being asked about everything to with canada, toronto and the blue jays for his entire career, being the face of canada baseball but at the same time being over looked by canada baseball for years... i can imagine it being frusteraring, votto lives In TO in the off season and does tonnes of charity work... hes gonna go down as the best ball player in the countries history

      He's intelligent in a stupid ass world. It's a bit of a curse. I have no problem with his opinion, only amazement that adults feign outrage by his views. But we live in the era of fake outrage.

    Not sure how I feel about this. I wasn't offended, but it was disappointing hearing his comments, he really had nothing to gain by saying what he did. At the same time, he didn't have to do this interview and apologize either unless he really wanted to. Was a fan, not sure after yesterday but at least this is something.

    Nothing to apologize for. I'm glad he actually speaks his mind, not just another generic athlete. But I am not the most patriotic guy, so what do I know?

    He's apologizing for nothing. So stupid. I'm sick of all the 'apologizing' people are doing simply because they offend people. He didn't do anything wrong nor does he have anything to feel embarrassed about.

  • @gotacallfromvishal
    @gotacallfromvishal 5 років тому +9

    lmao only in canada would speaking your mind like this be a crime against humanity
    all he said was:
    1) he doesn't care about the cdn baseball scene
    2) he was raised on us baseball
    3) he's proud of paxton as a pitcher first and not where he was born
    and in canadian style he has to go around now sucking up to everyone

    The fact that he said these things while on a podcast is exactly why I think, deep down, he meant what he said. He said he was feeling relaxed and casual so he was being his true self. In my opinion, it's no different than having a few drinks and telling people what you "really think". He had time to say whatever he wanted....but he spoke his true feelings. It's almost as if he thought because it was a podcast...he was speaking "off the record". Not forgiven.

    • @mclovin9578
      @mclovin9578 6 років тому +1

      I think he's genuinely upset and possibly even sorry. But he's acted like this many times in the past...this just happened to be about Canada so more people picked up on it. But I don't disagree.
      And L-Rod...do you mean the same way I'll lose sleep over your comment? I love how people turn on each other in the comment section. As if I need to be told he won't lose any sleep without my forgiveness. Why even make that comment? Unless you really think I thought Joey Votto was going to read my comment and actually lose sleep over it? You can't just politely disagree the way The Showing did? Sorry you felt the need to "burn me", L-Rod. But thank you...I'm a better person thanks to your keen insight. *eye roll*

      Not forgiven? You realize he's a baseball player, has his own opinions in life and owes you NOTHING.

    • @mclovin9578
      @mclovin9578 6 років тому

      D Payne...Let's see. Do I realize he's a baseball player? I trust that's rhetorical but on the off chance it isn't...yes, yes I do realize he's a baseball player. But here's one for you. Because I'm not a baseball player I'm NOT entitled to my own opinions in life and somehow owe YOU something?
      Seriously? That's the best argument you can make? Why not just offer an original opinion on it's own merits instead of trying to make someone else feel stupid for their own opinion? You should try that next time because you suck at the latter.

    This is such BS,his first statement came from the heart - HIS opinion - thats all - the apology sounded like it came straight from a PR person or lawyer,fake and manufactured.
    Have we really reached the point where speaking our true feelings has become socially unacceptable?

    So many sports ppl use Toronto / Canada as just a stepping stone. Sad since the fans here are the most loyal across so leagues. Its a major market and they just want our money before they move to the states. Never any loyalty here.

    I am from the same area as where Joey grew up and I have always had a great deal of respect for him as a Canadian and a complete package type of baseball player with immense talent who plays the game the way it's supposed to be played. But, I have listened to his disgusting comments about 5 times and I have watched this "apology" 5 times and I do not accept his apology. This is damage control as far as I am concerned. He experienced JEALOUSY??? really??? He has been awarded the Lou Marsh award 2 times!!! That's a Canadian award with a lot of prestige!! That award means a hell of a lot and I think he's a disgrace to have said these horrible comments that he did. He seems more sincere in his Pod cast then he does with this interview. It is clear to me that the interviewer was providing the easy way out for Joey by veering away from the issue that's at hand. What's clear to me and many, many others is that Joey really should have kept his mouth shut and opinions to himself during his Pod Cast. Instead of trying to show off he should have just kept his yap shut. I feel bad for all those Canadian kids who look up to and admire him as a great CANADIAN baseball player.

    of course he's apologizing.. he recieved SO much backlash on his remarks that may tarnish his name in canada, now hes here saying sorry to try and repair the damage he's done to himself..
    he would not have said the things he did in the first place if he didn't truly mean it.. this apology is insincere in my opinion.
