So I watched this video, Then I went back to the guitar and learned my arpeggios, triads and associated scales.... Major, minor, seventh’s etc. I watched this video again, and was amazed at how much more I got out of it. Now I’m doing it a third time. I can’t wait to see my progress. Thanks to Brett and Guthrie!
Awesome! Way to go. Thanks for watching!
I’m new to arpeggios where is a printable version of what they are using? I’m trying to catch up with y’all.
@@emart74008 I actually made my own study sheet. I googled the arpeggios for Major, minor, Dominant 7th and did the same for the scales. I cut the scale pattern out, and glued it next to the appropriate arpeggio pattern. That way I can play the arp up, and the scale down or vice versa. They are pretty beat up but I can send you pictures of what I’m using.
@@benjaminforster4500 that would be great, I’ll compare it to what I’ve started and send you a copy
no way to post pdf here it seems
That lightbulb moment you talk about in your CAGED course. I just had it. You and Guthrie are awesome teachers together.
Awesome! Way to go! I love hearing that! Keep it up!
Yeah ,you guys make a great teaching partnership
They are for sure. Best combination ever.
Keep having Guthrie back! You two work well together!
Yea, not to say they aren't great teachers separately (I always watch GT's videos especially, and Brett is a wealth of knowledge too), but I think the two of them together make an even more incredible teacher. Great dynamic they create as a team, and easily one of the best instructional teams I've ever seen.
Will do! Glad to hear you like the duo haha!
These two are to guitar education as Screech Powers and Zack Morris are to 80's shirts. FREAKING AMAZING.
Haha. Awesome! Glad ya think so!
Dude that intro was unbelievable keep it up
Will do!
Yea, I was inspired to learn that one. Talk about smooth melodic playing, wow yes and more wow.
Ditto. That intro and outro solo were so tasty!!!
@@paulnamestka4587 It would taste like strings and finger filth I would think
the trick for me when i was young, was learning licks i liked the sound of in the scales i was learning, then implementing them in little jams and what not. the more you do it, the more you get a sense of how the scales work, sound and feel under your fingers. then you can start to visualise the fretboard based on that. this is really great stuff, best tutorials out there
You are so right about that light bulb moment. I have been playing for 35 years and have known how to play with out really knowing how to play. When you learn what you already have learned it's like wow the entire world of guitar opens up and says"come in and relax and have a great time".
Absolutely brilliant. Guthrie is not only a really nice guy and a great guitarist, but he can also explain what he is doing in a really clear, understandable way. Bret, many thanks for bringing us these lessons with Guthrie and Corey.
You bet! Thanks for checking it out!
@@BrettPapa Thank you, Brett.
Guthrie...you DO have something to gain by showing how to play. And I believe your giving spirit is driving your success. Many thanks, dude.
I echo that 100%.

Sorry, fellas. You've all fallen short. I actually echo what he said by 500% and, according to the latest in scientific research, that is the absolute maximum that a thing can be echoed.....
I just got schooled. Not only is his playing technically amazing, but he plays with so much soul and life.
For sure!
Brett! I really think this may have been one of the best videos you and Guthrie have put together that explains the relationship between the chord, the scale, and the arpeggio. I feel I'm almost at the light-bulb moment. Going to watch it again here shortly. Huge thanks to you and Guthrie for putting this material together! You guys ROCK!!
The teamwork with them is so natural and unassuming, but right on track and to the point. Not to mention entertaining as hell, I had a great time watching this one especially.
Awesome man! Glad you think so. It’s always a great hang with Mr. Trapp. One of my favorite peeps and players for sure!
24:25 opens the door to the universe! For the first time I feel like I can get from here to there. Thank you both!!
You are welcome!
Guthrie's the best!! Thanks so much for bringing him on again!
Sure thing!
This video made my day, probably my week. The lesson was great but even greater still is the character each of you display. You both seem like very cool people. We need more of that.
Thanks! Glad you think so! It’s always a blast to hang with Guthrie!
Guthrie Trapp is a gdamn genius on that Gibson. Brett is a real ambassador of knowledge and he makes this spinning rock a little better everyday.
Bless them both and bless you too(b). ^-^
Haha! Thanks!
Thanks!
Philosophy from the home of electric guitar....................generous, friendly and just solid.......just get it together and compose the anthem. Thanks a million.
You are welcome!
"The reason it sounds like we're playing over the chord changes is because we ARE."
Lol!
I never comment on these videos, but I wanted to thank you for this one!
This video is the best I have EVER watched and exactly what I have been looking for. A+++
Currently, I just suck of melodic leads. I vaguely know these principals but hearing Guthrie explain it and see him apply it is like finding that missing needed piece. Been playing guitar for many many years. I have above average cord knowledge, but the ideas of playing around cords eluded me. Most talk about the pentatonic. I can play the pentatonic major and minor but could never make it sound musically natural the way I like. I am so excited to start this new path.
That is awesome! Glad you liked it! Thanks for checking it out!
Really enjoy learning from the two of us, your videos have been really helping me move along as a player, thank you! Both of you do a great job explaining the theory behind what's going without being dull.
Sure thing! Glad you like them!
The A-Bm-D-A progression is used throughout the song "What's up" by 4 non blondes. It is a great progression to work on "playing the changes" . Good choice guys. Great lesson! Thanks!
I've been on this outlining chords and pentatonic practice for quite a bit now.. Breaking away from the normal play a scale thing .. wow can I just say it is sinking in and also is helping me pick out parts of songs identification of chord tones ... Thank you for putting this out and opening up a new Avenue to for those not familiar...
Awesome! Thanks so much for tuning in!
Thank you and congratulations to both of you for giving us such a great video! The way you both took the time to explain this concept so slowly and carefully was perfect. I really think you guys nailed the explanation of playing over the changes in a way that most videos miss. I'm a big fan of both of your videos/teaching styles and think you are changing the game here on youtube for guitar playing education. A big bonus is that you both seem like great people and seem to have a good time recording these lessons. I have purchased video lessons from both of you guys and can say that I have learned a ton and am a better player for it. Thanks again and keep up the great work!
Man that’s awesome! Great to hear! Glad the videos are making a difference!
This is the most concise and comprehensive video lesson on scales, triads, chord inversions, diatonic harmonies, arpeggios and intervals. Covers pretty much everything on improvising, very impressive. Thanks a ton for you both for putting this out. One of the most valuable lessons I've ever seen in here. A true masterclass.
Awesome! Thanks for checking it out!
Man, I could listen to you guys play together all day! This was absolutely beautiful and so many wonderful little mini lessons throughout. Whenever I watch videos with Guthrie, it takes me several days to get through all the little bits that he covers in the course of like 30-40 minutes. Thanks so much for posting such wonderful content!
You are welcome!
Another brilliant lesson, Guthrie; thanks so much. It really clarified a couple things I've been working towards, you've opened another door for me. Thanks, too, Brett for all you do. I love it that you guys have so much fun. Keep up the great work. Wonderful attitude, too, not keeping anything back. 👍
Mr Stache, I very much appreciate your interviewing style. You are appreciated because you ask all the questions that any curious guitarist should! U make everything crystal clear.
Thanks man! Glad you think so! It's a fun gig to have!
Amazing lesson.
Thanks!
Just outstanding as always, guys. Brett, thanks for bringing Guthrie to us, what a talent, and you are great at pulling the gems from him (and trying to keep him focussed!)
As an instructor myself, I know it's hard to reign ourselves in sometimes. As players we're using to thinking of these things in micro seconds, but that's counter to being able to teach someone who doesn't have the same things down already. Guthrie just has so much more to teach about every little nuance, he is like a prize race horse at the gate, and beyond merely focused, lols.
Sure thing!
WOW!! I wish I had seen this 20 years ago! Magnificent lesson!
Thanks guys! You guys are amazing! Much appreciated!
Thanks!
Brett, thanks for keeping these videos long. I'm getting so much out of you and Guthrie working together. Please keep doing these! An idea for the next video - give him chords outside of the key so we can see how he phrases melodies that are a little more outside the box. Thanks again! I have both yours and Guthrie's courses and love them.
You are welcome! Thanks for the support!
It's great to see Guthrie Trapp & Papa Stache giving lessons together again! Incredibly valuable and informative!
Thanks for checking us out!
Thanks BP and GT! You guys are great
Thanks! Thanks for tuning in!
papa n guthrie together brings bunch of information wid simple ideas n full of melody n ecouragement. Alwaz admire both of u guys for providing such grt lessons for free. 😊
You are welcome!
I keep coming back to this - it's simple, but it's profound!! Thank you, AGAIN, Brett, for these fantastic videos!! 🙏
You are welcome!
Brett, once again, thanks for doing this! You are such an awesome player, don't shortchange yourself!
Guthrie, what you just showed us was brilliant: "My Girl" is an excellent example to illustrate what you're talking about! I know so many guys get lost trying to understand how to play lead, and they don't understand when you say, "Play over the chords or chord changes." But when you showed an arpeggio, then played that "My Girl" riff and showed the chords under it, that was great.
Thanks Jeff! Compared to Guthrie we all could use a little work lol! He is a fantastic teacher!
This is absolutely golden information for any aspiring player. Learn the chords, learn the fretboard and it doesn’t feel like the hard yards learning theory. Also, been chasing “sounds” for a while, new pedals etc. Clean guitar sounds, cleaner technique. Both great players, thanks for this.
Glad you liked it! Thanks for checking it out!
That was great Brett. Really enjoy listening to both of you play. Wow, lots to work on. Thanks.
You are welcome! Thanks for tuning in!

You are welcome! Thanks for checking us out!
This has to be one of the best series. Guthrie is an amazing player and teacher too. Thanks papastache 🙏🙏🙏👌👌
Sure thing! More coming soon!
Guthrie, you are a saint for finishing your sentences and thoughts here! The man you're playing with already understands all you are sharing, but your target audience does not. - This is a common problem when two skilled players are together on a video, and one is sharing info for a lesser skilled audience. The other guy responds as though he's talking to him, when in reality he's spelling-it-out for that other audience.
You guys are GREAT!!
Thanks! Glad ya think so!
Guthrie is the guitar teacher I was id had all that time ago. You can tell he really cares about people learning he's a true gentlemen of the instrument and an top player modest as they come.
Yep he does. Great teacher great dude!
