Jared, believe me, this is the kind of video from which we learn faster because you illustrate with a backing track coupled with different approaches. So fantastic.
This is pure gold. Best instructions I ever found on how to improvise. Connecting the theory with practical steps on how to exercise and how to get there. I've been noodling around with pentatonics for too long. This is exactly what I'm going to start doing, from today! New subscriber here. Thanks so much for your content!
SUPER useful lesson taught perfectly! So fun to work in this way while still learning a ton about whatever position/progressions you are taking a look at. Just a great way to organize productive practice. Thanks so much Jared and belated congrats on 200!!
I Think step 5 is the crucial step between noodling and making music. But maybe I never actually fully realized that…thanks for the 200 valuable insights. Take care Jared.
These videos are my favorite, theyre awesome. One of my absolute favorite songs to practicing soling over because it has endless potential is, It Never Entered My Mind. That song hits different, especially Miles version.
So useful - great thoughts that a lot of teachers skip in favor of a lick or a riff. This is how to improve and organize your mind to improve your playing. Could be a light bulb if you're stuck.
CONGRATULATIONS JARED ON YOUR 200th VIDEO ! ! ! THANKS FOR A VERY REFRESHING VIDEO WITH LOTS OF SCOPE AND EASY FLOWING MUSICAL IDEAS. BEST REGARDS - EDDIE ( UK FOLLOWER ).
Congratulations on your 200th and on being such a great instructor. I have learned a great deal from you in the last couple of weeks. I stumbled onto your channel via Rob MacKillop. Thank you so much.
Jared you're a great teacher. I'm a older newbie to guitar. I'm just starting to get my Minor and Major scales down. I will be starting Cords and Intervals next. I'm finding it difficult to get my scales to sound like music. Do you have a lesson for that? Thanks.
What I would like to see is how to solo over non-repetitive chord patterns Ike your showing here An example would be like Willie Nelson’s “Blue Eyes Cryin in the Rain” where the changes aren’t typically predictable like a 1-4-5 or whatever.
Also, maybe consider playing over unusual chord structures …something like G-Bm-Am- C-G where more creativity is required. Throw in some Maj7’s and some diminished chords too.
Bicentennial Greetings and Congratulations, Jared. Fifty more before 2026 and you will beat the United States of America to the semiquincentennial celebration! And by the way, this was a great lesson on the value of mapping out the chord tones and being able to incorporate them in your playing by: 1) Simply knowing where one is in the chord progession ( / melody); and 2) Using the chord tones in the solo, as needed, to help the audience know where you are in the chord progression (/ melody). I'm going to study my chord tones and get them under my fingers. Thanks!
WOW 200 congrats. this is important for me to do ... daily for a while .. Practice makes ... (nope) not perfect but better. 🙂 learning to walk before running ..
Perhaps you're overcomplicating things. Simply, to play solo over chord changes, know the chord shapes and try to hit the chord tones at appropriate times, using major scale (also chromatic, or certain modes if sounding right) notes as passing notes. Me, I just try to hit either tonic or third, and limit 5th, using the rhythm to guide spacing.

You are over the top in your care and teaching! I am curious what Model of telecaster you are using in this video with the Rosewood? neck? Thank you!
Thanks for the kind words! My tele is a standard American tele made is 2011. Same pickups it came with and everything. nice and simple. I love it.

@@davidpatrick1813 Cheers, and thanks for the congrats and for following along!! It means a lot.
Is there a backing track available for download for this video?
Unfortunately not :/ ... but that's great question! I'll consider including backing track resources in the future. Thanks for asking!
How do you solo over changes that go by fast? Thanks!
happy 200th!
Thanks so much! 🙏
Please how do I identify the numerical cords of guitar 🎸
what I feel is that we can really play any from the key we are in, say here E major, always
Any notes? Yes I agree! :)
10.05 hahh i was thinking doo wap
