    Couple of points:
I think the iceborne omnicell's focus is on staying full health. At full health, get more ice lance damage, that's the goal. If you get hit, don't worry, you gain lifesteal and damage reduction. Iceborne doesn't have any draw backs either, unlike discipline. From what I know all good players have the damage > survivability mindset and based on the poll, it seems like a lot of players like the ability to take a hit or five.
Discipline has more damage increases, but you lose health and takes 100% damage when disciplined, which raises the skill floor and skill ceiling. You're just focusing on the skill ceiling because you've got the skill to focus on the ceiling. Newer players are focused on the skill floor.
I don't know much about bastion, seems cool.
Quality video, I like this kind of thought provoking decisions.

most people are pretty unaware of how the game works though. Bastion is more dmg and more survivability than iceborn simply because of how poorly ib synergy is and how poorly coded it is.
example: IB 1100hp gets hit with an attack doing 700dmg, dmg reduced by 5% is 665 leaving you with 435hp and 25% dmg reduction, get hit by the same attack for 700 dmg, reduced to 524, and dead.
Bastion 1000hp 500shields. hit for 700 take 700 down to 800, take hit for 700 take 700 down to 100, and live.
Even if in the first scenario with IB you life steal 100hp before getting hit again you would still go down because you lose 5% dmg reduction and still end up taking enough dmg to go down. 435hp up to 535, 20% dmg reduction hit for 700 reduced to 560 still dead.
But on top of that, as you life steal back up to full hp you start losing life steal and dmg reduction...why? so dumb and gives weapons with fast low dmg attacks a disadvantage in the situation since instead of doing a huge attack that benefits from the stacks of life steal you do small attacks that lose the stacks of lifesteal as you gain life lol.
Iceborn only starts seeing value when you are getting hit with low dmg attacks but bastion excels in that area too since any attack that doesn't do more than your current amount of shields can then just be "healed" by generating more shields. You would think iceborn would benefit from tenacious especially with the extra 100hp but bastion still benefits more being able to actually protect the core hp instead of having to heal up missing hp with ib to get more value from tenacious. Just an all around bad omnicell but people think its good because they can get tossed around (or not tossed around with ib activation) by an embermane and win because of low dmg taken and life steal. As soon as the content starts becoming more difficult iceborn is kind of bad and the activation is incredibly bad because as dough stated being unstaggerable can be incredibly dangerous. Dont get me wrong bastion has its downfalls and ib can technically be better survivability in very specific cases like literally not knowing how to dodge/not understanding the behemoth fight lol which makes sense why more people picked ib cuz the majority of the playerbase is actually really bad at the game.
TLDR Iceborn is garboooge, poorly designed, coded horribly, and still is less survivability than bastion.

I see people watch these videos and then jump on discipline then wipe constantly.... but then I also see noobs running icebourne throwing lance to initiate like morons instead of using it when they actually need a heal or an interrupt, and then wiping constantly.
Then there's me rocking skarns lantern and bastion carrying a bunch of nabs who think just because somebody on youtube told them it's "mathematically better" they need to rock it instead of playing something they're actually going to enjoy.

    Here's my take -
I have been playing dauntless for 2 years now, and I'd like to think I am fairly good at the game. I have enough skill to get top 100 on solo trials, so I am fully capable of handling the gameplay mechanics and dodging. For a player such as myself, it's quite obvious that discipline is the only *sensible* option in terms of raw DPS, but I can absolutely see when iceborne is viable. Bastion still needs tweaking and I don't really know if it'll be worth using for the time being because its use of the shields is pretty flawed as mentioned in the video, and even though I have never used icebone since the Omnicells dropped I can see how it helps newer players. When I was still learning dodge timings, the original iceborne cell allowed me to make mistakes and survive EVEN if I got hit. I feel like the whole "unstaggerable" thing is kind of sloppy, but it at least doesn't punish you for trying to learn how to dodge. You still have to dodge because you don't have damage reduction at full health to survive an attack, but it definitely gives you a chance to learn with training wheels. Iceborne is bad for players that are good, and great for people still learning the game. BUT if you have a gold crown and use iceborne... bro just use parasitic lol

The reasons why I think iceborne is lack luster doesn't stem entirely from damage. It's active doesn't work well with the entirety of the kit and the way you increase damage goes against what omnicell is for. Iceborne is to take damage so why would there be an expectation to be full health to use the lance especially when the way you reduce the CD is by taking more damage. It would make more sense if the playstyle was: use lance to be unstaggerable take damage and reduce CD, cast it so you get extra lifesteal, rinse repeat.

As it turns out iceborne is more usefull/fun than I thought. I still think the active should be changed by either making it so the more damage you take the more damage the lance deals or giving it 2 casts. This is based off of the CD reduction not working though so who knows. maybe once it's fixed it'll be a really short CD with the right tank build.

    • @KevinShmelvin
      @KevinShmelvin 3 роки тому

I still think iceborn needs more upfront damage reduction like 20% -30% and the special used to be invincibility and i understand why they changed it but they should at least give a huge damage reduction bonus after you use tap. like 50% at max health. your tap should be the im going in raw moment for 8 sec.
Bastion like you said is counteractive with it use with galvanized. First it needs a buff to shield generation and a max shield capacity. using tap should give you a bonus to make up for the loss in galvanized crit. you are sacrificing both the crit chance and the survivability for a big number damage.
As for discipline i think 100% is bit to big a penalty. i usually get hit by the dumbest things and die and also lose the buff. maybe a 25% extra damage like the amps is ok. Not 100%. the nerf to regeneration is heavy enough.

    • @craigfunk3453

I do believe every omnicell still needs some fine tuning to really get the kinks out.
Iceborne unstaggerable state is used against you by higher behemoths because you no longer have I-frames after getting hit in a multi-hit setting. Either return it to full invincibility or massively buff defense while unstaggerable. Not to mention the issue of the long CD and not having it shortened when hit. 2 cast stacks per CD does seem like a good idea
Bastion could probably have a couple changes (I get annoyed when my leaps randomly decide they didn't hit a behemoth despite a direct hit) maybe add to it that hitting with the active gives back like half of the consumed shields as a separate buff with no duration? Make it rewarding to generate such massive shields and maintain them. But also a 'miss' could not consume the shields and refund at least half the CD?
Discipline could likely cut back on the 'double damage taken while Disciplined' since sometimes you get a successful parry and still get hit and/or not get the stack you should've gotten

The biggest reason I can see for people loving Iceborn right now is you can very easily build to be nearly unkillable with very little effort. I've been running it on an thrax axe build with skarn lantern for shields, tenacious, parasite, rage, sturdy, and the cronovore legs with the matching cell. I can happily trade damage with behemoths in escalation and I'll quickly heal all of that damage right back while getting a nice damage buff on top of it. It lets me bully behemoths like thrax while some of my teammates are getting thrown around like Ragdolls if they make a mistake. It's some of the most fun I've had in a while since my favorite way to play is to be overly aggressive to the point of trading damage and just have fun. Discipline requires so much more out of the player to be useful and has a nasty downside if you happen to make a mistake.

It seems to me that all the Omnicells's passives dont really synergize with their active.
Iceborne: tiny max hp and the lower you get the tankier you become + life steal, but your active forces you to be at max hp in order to benefit.
Bastion: get shields faster than before and get skarn's old UE, but your active it throwing it all out for some damage
Discipline: increase crit chance and dmg by 10% and reduce your healing by 50, but you have to use your active to get the rest of your passive effect to activate which requires you to boop a behemoth perfectly 4 times and once you do that, for 40 seconds you do get increase crit chance, but you also take 100% more damage, meaning you get hit even once and there go all your stacks cause you're eating dirt.
Omnicells have good potential, but they need some fundamental changes to their design. Remember: We lost our tap abilities on our lanterns for these three, and who knows when the next one will show.

    • @TheRandomASDF

Iceborn: Not really for dmg, its for safe booping.
Bastion: Use it right before skarn lantern and you have your shield up within seconds.
Discipline: You can parry any attack, not only the ones you can boop. And you can chose to stay at 3 stacks and use the last one only when the behemoth enrages, aethercharges. Gives you a lot of time to do dmg.

I don't feel like there is anything wrong with Iceborn's own synergy.
When taking damage active's CD gets reduced so you can do some damage, attack without getting stagered, regenerating more health..
When not taking hit and so at full health (because the passive allows it) you still gain some benefit : double damage on active.

Bastion is only bad IF you use the Slam... Don't. Or just use Skarn lantern and use the hold right after the tap (that way, instant shield refill).
Discipline is good and if you combine that Cunnig and with Galvanized (you do need some Skarn itenm to give you shields do) THAT is pretty cool.

Bastion... BASTION IS NOW WHAT WARPIKES USED TO BE!!!! "Hey, I have now charged all of this meter that gives me benefits aaaaaand... *poof* it is now gone..."
I like the idea of it but it is just.... eh, feels just bad to nuke your own buffs for a short time benefit.
And even so, there are way to few things that synergize with it... there is only one SPECIFIC weapon, and one specific lantern that works with it, and it is all from the same Behemoth...
And the one cell that it synergizes with is... ofcourse Galvanize and that is an anti-synergy in and of itself...
    RIVETING!
I mean, this is why Half-life builds were so freaking popular.
It was really one of the few builds that had a streak of synergies. Sure, it wasn't a dynamic synergy, it was a simple of "these benefits are all triggered by the same thing". sort of deal-
A cell to keep you at half health
A cell to help keep you alive at low health
A cell to give you damage at low health
A cell to give you attack speed at low health.
That's why I personaly liked it, because there was synergy.
Now, not saying I don't like Omni-cells, I do think they are... okay. I mean, not really changing a lot other than changing how Iceborne and Discipline works, and make them mutually exclusive.
Yes, that is an over-simplification with all the other stuff that happened. But It mostly boils down to having removed the one build that worked well in almost all instances, that was ridicuously well synergized.
And PHXL saying that this would make builds more diverse...
    HAH!!!
    FUCKING BULLSHIT!!!
Now we have 3 builds with only slight alterations.
    * Iceborne with Tenacity and Tough.
    * Bastion with Skarn's lantern and weapon.
    * And Discipline with all the crit-cells out the yazoo.
    That
    is
    IT!
We can only have as many builds really as the omni-cells provide. That is how the meta would work with making the one-all-be-all cell that Omni-cells are.
A thing that will determine what your build does.
Now, I do not want to give PHX to much shit for the Omin-cells.
Just saying, do anyone feel that if they really wanted to push out the Omni-cells, the should have launched with way more of them. Minimum 5.
They should be less... I mean... eh
Iceborne is so meh... Poor damage, and it's survivability is actually worse than it was before.
Already started of mentioning Bastion, which I do like, but could be better.
And Discipline which... well, discipline is actually a pretty sweet owni-cell only held back by the skill needed to use it and maintain health despite its drawback.

@@andyboston3646 planning means that may or may not be implemented. As of right now, I believe that the amount of builds being cut, do not justify the new features implemented in this update. I hope that you're right but they have to introduce a lot more than just 3 new omnicells.
Edit: Also I didn't mention it on the previous comment but lanterns freakin suck now. The only half decent one is Skarn because you couldn't recast until gone, back in the day. Before you could basically have as many lantern uses as you want if you landed a lot of hits, but making them cooldown based is too much of an overall nerf to every other build, that doesn't have skarn lantern.

    • @Vodhr
      @Vodhr 3 роки тому +1

@@maverickandmerciless9437 Yea, you may not have noticed since it was not in the patch notes, but Shriek lantern was nerfed to 10 seconds from 15 seconds duration.
Yea, I also hate the lantern change.
True, they deal an impressive amount of damage now. But they are "uninteractive".
I personaly like how you lanterns were "advantage" pushers. The more offensive you are, the more offensive power you have.
Now we have the timer (I hate long cooldown abilites in almost every game - personal prefference.)
Only exception is multiplayer games where high impact abilities need to be baited out before you go all out. etc. etc. PvP mentality.
Different playstyle than a strict PvE game.
Now you have to use either Aetheric Evasion or Aetheric Atunment to have them feel like a satisfying recharge rate.
      Purely enjoyable.
I would rather the lanterns hit for less and can be fired more - like it was.

Man, I really want bastion to be better with galvanize-builds :( I currently have one repeater build with it, but I think I'll just go back to discipline because it actually gives me an active that doesn't sabotage my build (and, you know, a truckload of crit damage and chance instead of 500 shield which equates to a whopping 10% crit chance. discipline gives 8% out the gate damnit). I'll just swap off shields as the main focus back onto crit, and use the skarn lantern to utilize galvanize and give myself insurance against getting clapped while disciplined. Sadge though, really hoped I could at least somewhat revive that stoneheart prism build with 5000 shield and 100% crit :'<
One thing I don't like about discipline though is the way it feels like a enforced predator. Predator says "don't take damage for 15 seconds to gain bonus damage", discipline says "here's bonus damage, don't get hit or you're dead"
