    Great video and very well presented. However I do think for similar weight and cost you would be better off with a folding bike. I bought a Brompton and it has been a game changer. Mine is an older one so not as light as the sportier models (12.5kgs) but it folds up in seconds and is easy to carry. I just know I'd seriously injure myself on one of those electric options you showed!

    I have a couple esk8s and OneWheels. They are truly for different purposes. Most if not all of the accidents I’ve seen resulted from user error and not understanding how the board works. If you ride it like an esk8, with your weight over the center, you’re asking to fall. I have over 4k miles on 3 onewheels and can push my GT to 24 without it cutting out. Time and experience are great tools.

    • @garrymullins
      @garrymullins 8 місяців тому +1

      Agreed. Also, a massive difference between a stock Pint versus a GT kitted out with aftermarket parts. But it gets expensive fast.
      If price is a concern and you just want something practical, esk8 makes sense. But a Onewheel can provide an amazing experience, for a premium price.

      @@brokentradgedy I also have and love both but this is a stupid comment. Just fanboying and showing your bias here.
      Yes electric longboards are better for pure speed. But in a city they are infinitely less maneuverable and you can't do anything about going up curbs. Takes a somewhat skilled rider to go down them as well and there is a cutoff because of the battery hanging underneath.
      With a OneWheel you have infinite turn radius, can go up curbs and down basically any. Can hit the dirt path or grass. A ton more freedom. You can do tricks and just carve up the street. You can also go anywhere on a Lacroix type board but then the cost argument falls apart and the portability is terrible.
      Basically most people that own both ride OneWheels far more often, myself included. But the highs are higher on an eskate. Carving up a perfectly paved street at like 25+ mph is amazing. But the world isn't built like that. There are cracks in the road you have to prepare for on an eskate that I could just be staring at my phone and ignore on the OneWheel.
      If you want to haul ass in a straight line electric longboards are king. If you want to take the scenic route and enjoy the trip a OneWheel is better. Both equally great tools with different methods of achieving a similar goal.

    Pros and cons, I live in a 36ft bus in the US. The Meepo voyager has served me well. 30mile range means I only charge (on my solar) once a week. I have never run out of charge on a trip with the voyager. The 500wh means I can carry weight (groceries) with no problems. The tynee would make a good spare but not practical.

    i'm a big onewheel advocate & even have their newest one, the GT-S
    i wouldn't call them "safe".
    you're literally on a single wheel and a board. the "marvel" of it technology-wise is the appeal because it's not something that was normally possible. so it comes with risk.
    it is very fun though, and going for a ride without having to use a controller and just jump on and go is something that is just awesome to me.
    it's important to be smart with these things though and understand it is technology. make sure you're aware of how your PSI, weight, outdoor temperature, wind, terrain & other factors affect your ride.
    if you're just looking for something practical, i would get a scooter/moped.

    Just wanted to add, most newer esk8s, not evolve, when your remote disconnects your just gonna lose breaks, so you can roll to a stop or drag your foot, and your much better off it it has issues, in most cases you just lose power. Also with esk8 you can get lighter or heavier ones, the main thing will be battery, the lighter they are less range your gonna get. On a one wheel there is ghosting, cut outs, nose dives, and if your battery it out of balance it will shut off before it would normally, then normal and chuck you. EUCs fall into the same bucket of it cuts out your done. Also vesc onehweels are better but there a lot of work and a lot more expensive.

    I rode One Wheels for years with starting with a Pint and upgrading to the XR. I have over 2,000 miles altogether on One Wheels and have come off the board many times on and off road. I can say that a majority of my falls were my fault, but I have had MANY instances were the board scared the hell out of me. It got to the point to where I was paranoid about hitting pot holes, uneven pavement or anything that would cause the board to become unstable. I was just not enjoying the ride anymore. I've been lucky enough to run out most of the "crashes" but I do not want to end up with a permanent injury. Therefore, I now own an Evolve electric board and won't ever go back. Get all terrain tires with your electric board and its way better than a One Wheel.

    this is crazy. ive been riding my pintx for the last two years, and i nosedived once, and always feared the top speed since then. I've lived with just cruising arounrd 16km/hr, but always had that need for speed. I ordered the tynee stinger almost a month ago (custom) and its getting here in a couple weeks. So this video is great for me to stumble on! QUESTION for you, do you find it easy to learn an esk8 coming from a onewheel, or is it a whole new thing to learn?

    • @slightadrift
      @slightadrift  3 місяці тому

      Yeah man! When I came off my one wheel , I thought I must have been going too fast but it was ecu failure. Those electric unicycles have the same thing and they can go SO MUCH FASTER!
      Eskate:
      Your balance will definitely translate. I’m sure you’ll be fine. I’ve broken a lot of belts so now I always ride with spares and a tool to change.
      The eskate has its own dangers BTW. Fastest I’ve been is 45km/h and I had a belt blow at that speed. I felt it go and was fine but at those speeds it did change the boards ergonomics.
      I think the potential for harm might be greater on the skate because you can go so fast. For this reason I tightened the trucks up a little to be more stable at high speeds, but speed is within your control
      The only thing I think of that could happen (but never has) is when I’m going down a hill, especially a steep one, and using the board to brake i just think, what if the board was to either shut off or break both belts. Then I’d turn into a cruise missile
      It’s unlikely…. But so is ecu failure on a onewheel. Something to keep in the back of your mind.
      Enjoy!

    • @Miguel_Molina
      @Miguel_Molina 3 місяці тому

      @@slightadrift that’s awesome to hear it will translate over! I’m not a speed demon but I know I will try. I’m gonna definitely tighten up those bushings.
      And for the belts, I’m glad I did the custom order! Tynee has now released the helical gear drives which eliminates the belts. So I told them to install them for me! But you can order them from the site and they have an installation video on how to do it if you are interested!

    Hey, really enjoying your vids. I've also got a 37ft electric sailboat and have been using a carver surfskate as my main transport onland, though anything more than a couple of km and uphill just doesn't cut it. So been debating ebike/skat/scooter. Think you may have sold me on the skate. Out of interest what trucks does it have, could it be worth swapping out the front truck for a surfskate truck to make it more carvy?
    Also what boat is that, you seem to have so much room for a 36ft.

    • @slightadrift
      @slightadrift  4 місяці тому +1

      The trucks are double kingpin. I wouldn’t swap the trucks out for something more carvy, I actually tightened mine up. You need a more stable setup if you want to go at higher speeds. There is no way you’re going 40+ km/h on a surf skate. But, depends what you want the board for I guess. Thanks for the comments mate. My boat is a lavranos 36ft 🍻

    For clarity, it’s unclear whether the 4 deaths cited by the CPSC were due to hardware or software malfunctions (or malfunctions of any kind). May have just been users overpowering the board and nose-diving. Unclear, at this point.

    • @slightadrift
      @slightadrift  Рік тому

      You are correct. They may have just not felt the kick back which is probably why the recent update with more alert signals when approaching the limit. Still, I’m 99% certain, two times I’ve come off were from the board malfunctioning. I feel like I got off very lightly in those two circumstances. I can’t be the only one on the planet, there must be others. Even with a set servicing schedule, if they were to introduce one, over the long term you’re rolling the dice IMO

    Your feet are getting tingly because your riding In chucks which have a super thin outsole so you really feel everything. Soke skaters like this but for eskate it has not as many benefits to get massive board feel. I switched to vans because my feet were hurting though.

    if it was your first time in a boat and it started sinking, would you also decide that boats are unsafe? you rely on their buoyancy to float, right, so without the buoyancy (self balancing feature) you're screwed! probably not, right. so i think it's a bit unfair to paint with broad strokes here. there isn't an electronic on the planet that doesn't malfunction. ow's are no exception. it's why you ride with caution and use equipment in anticipation of a malfunction to protect yourself... like having lifejackets on a boat, or seat belts in a car, etc.. im also curious what PSI you're riding. if you aren't in the 10-14 range, I'd recommend giving it a shot.

    • @slightadrift
      @slightadrift  Рік тому

      I think you miss my point but I hear you. I’m not trying to wrap everyone in cotton wool here, but if the electronics fail in a onewheel, you’re coming off. Hopefully you don’t eat it bad. If my boat starts sinking, I have SO many safety measures before I go down. I have a two seperate automatic bilge pumps. I have a bilge pump alarm. I have sea cocks where I can literally shut off all the entry points of water. I have a VHF. The list goes on. My point is redundancy. Not only that, I have regular preventative maintenance schedules for EVERYTHING! Unlike onewheel which has no set servicing timetable. See the difference?
      Im fine with everyone owning a onewheel. I just think it’s level of safety is misrepresented.

    • @boolikethebear
      @boolikethebear Рік тому

      @@slightadrift you can have your ow serviced at any time. just take it to a shop lol. having problems? get it looked at. not having problems, but wanna make sure everything is fine? get it looked at lol. why would you need a timetable for something like that? the rest of your points are fair enough. ow's are definitely dangerous.

    Good review. I was always worried about putting the balance in the hands of electronics. Good you didn't get an evolve, as awesome as it was when it worked.. Wheel size has to be an issue on your new skaty for anything other than pavement and even then, dodgy at speed. As a tool i would have thought the scooters would be the go... But not as fun lol. Bigger wheels and only 2 instead of 4 and the handlebars are convenience in a number of other ways. I know a bike is too big but a scooter is not that much bigger. Water killed most of my electric toys so far, not even salt, it must be worse for you.
