My first exposure to Johnny Winter was around 1967 (edit: 1969) in south Florida at the Seminole Indian Music Festival. It was a 3 day event with The Youngblood’s, NRBQ, Quicksilver... this particular night the announcer said “. We’ve got a guy here who is not scheduled to play tonight but he wants to play and get his name spread around so we’re gonna let him play for a while....here is is Johnny Winter”. Yes, we stood there in awe and history was made

@@knuckle47 yes they were. I was 16 back then, junior in high school. Dad was yard super for Frecon concrete co. Came back to Hialeah and graduated HHS in ‘69. What a great time those days were!!
It's so nice reading the reviews and comments from the other Golden Triangle folks who, like me, grew up there in the 60's and 70's. We were so blessed. Many of us got to enjoy these guys, and Janis, and Gatemouth, and George Jones. I went from there to Austin after Lamar and just kind of took it for granted that this was how you lived your life, surrounded by great music. What a blessing UA-cam is so others can get a taste of what we had.
Thank you, Mr. Nobody Special. Yes, counting your blessings and really, in your heart and mind in your own way in your own time, appreciating how lucky you are, what you have lived, experienced and done for others, is very truly personal and special. You have lived well. That's pretty darn special!
If you haven't already found out, the Winters Brothers are Albino, thats why they are so white. I've been fortunate too have heard them preform back in the day, believe it or not they where both quite shy. Thanks for keeping Our Music 🎶 alive.
Nothing like kicking back, closing your eyes and inhaling the Winters sound. Then you open your eyes. The visuals just make it that much better. The radio late at night, and the wild live concert in broad daylight. These kids don't have any idea of what they missed.
Beaumont, Texas legends. Greatly underrated multi-instrumentalists. Noth Johnny and Edgar could play anything. Straight up bad asses. No one like those two, in all the world. We Texans love our Winters.👍☀️👍
Growing up listening to Johnny and Edgar, they are like dear old friends. I loved listening to their albums and seeing them live, on multiple occasions, with my high school buddy who recently passed. May he and Johnny rest in peace with our Lord. The unbelievable talent of the Winter brothers is on full display in this video, virtuoso, soulful, bluesy, awesome! Try finding music on this level today, you won't!
Es muy buena interpretación de estos dos grandes brothers están para mi a pesar de su desaparición entre comillas muy vigentes tengo 68 años soy Colombiano y los escucho aún seguido son magníficos, buen recuerdo.🎉
I Have Never Had The Extreme Pleasure Of Seeing Or Hearing Them Play Together. Wow! Im Blown Away! What An ExTremene Amount Of Talent Between The Two Of Them!
Ridiculously good. Edgar flying on the tenor sax and soul on the Hammond. Johnny will never be replaced. No one has that Texas blues style like he had. Way ahead of his time. They were just so good together!!
Dig the way he plays some of the same licks on sax that were featured in his earlier organ solo. Gifted cats. Maybe because of camera or mic placement, Johnny's guitar dominates the mix. But that's a good reason to appreciate his complimentary rhythm guitar chops and smoking solo. Johnny plays cool lines in context with the chord structure and weaves them seamlessly. His solos never get repetitive. Listen to 30 seconds of any SRV solo and you've heard every lick he knew.
Like a high pitched growl nobldy else had. Anyone that was invited to Woodstock was NOT UNDERRATED man lets lose that stupid overstated echo comment and say sumpth original?
Yummmm. Miss Edgar n Johnny born in 1961 my brother introduced me to both. Rest in peace David Cocciardi. Keep playing that jazz roll Edgar! Love your dedication album.
I seen Edgar winter in the winter of 72 - 73 and his on core was Tobacco Road. What a treat it was and then humble pie took the stage. It was a night I will always remember.
Some of the very BEST musicians to ever play....the music and showmanship speaks for itself Edgar's voice, keyboard playing and sax work is astonishing.Johnny is probably one of the most under rated guitar players of all time. The speed and accuracy and phrasing of his licks blow me away.
I started saxophone as a kid and have been playing professionally all my life, when I first saw Edgar play sax when I was 14 yrs old I was totally blown away by his saxophone playing (not to mention every other instrument). Even if saxophone was his only instrument, he was still one of the best players in this style EVER in the history of the horn in my opinion. But listening to this recording which I'd never heard before, I'm STILL totally blown away with his amazing ability on the horn!! Pure soul and amazing technique all over the instrument!! Best R&R alto player ever. True genius! Show less REPLY
I had the most beautiful pure white albino cat. He had one green, and one blue eye, so Thank God he could hear me. I named him after Edgar Winter. One if the best living buds I've ever had!
Ree, that's funny, I had a cat just like yours with long white fur and mismatched eyes, and yes we named him Edgar! I miss that cat, he had no fear; he used to curl up with our Saint Bernard and German Shepherd on their dog beds. He was a real good mouse killer too. Unfortunately he disappeared one day; we suspect the coyotes got him.
folks i think this is testament to the importance of getting out and playing with other musicians... the Winter brothers were both out in their local Texas/Louisiana music scene at young ages soaking it in, developing their ears and honing their craft

No hip hop racist i hate white people but i have no real talent autotune here folks. It is the real deal and i was there. I saw it with my own eyes. No one today can even play a musical instrument! Why do you fools keep listening to this schitt today?
I remember seeing Johnny and Edgar Winter, along with Eric Clapton and B.B.King And Muddy Waters!! Ted Nugent was in Chicago doing his own tour and showed up and was invited to jam as well! About half way thru the jam, Stevie Ray Von came on stage and blew us all away! I am so fortunate to have gotten the chance to hear all the great Blues men play!! Thank's guys for gettin me thru!!
Thank you UA-cam & whoever loaded this amazing live recording!! We'll have it for History & All Time. It's just Magical to see them do this together, I could listen on a loop of this all day long!!
Tell me what they COULDNT do!? Sax piano guitar drums musical geniuses. Edgar said about their upbringing that he and Johnny were “inseparable and they learned to play together” he said they could play “telepathically” Sad Johnny died so soon. These two were musical geniuses for sure. Imagine growing up in Texas as 2 albino brothers? No one had seen anything like them. Now they’re reunited and playing endless blues even in heaven.
The Winter brothers are the most gifted musicians I’ve ever heard ... I do remember when young my school principal great Ruy introduced me to Johnny Winter it blow my mind , Ruy said I’ve heard you love the blues , man you’ve got hear this long hair albino guy with this rattlesnake cowboy hat he’s the best ever .... they are playing with future Double Trouble SRV’s Band .... man this is the best music I’ve ever heard .... thank you so much for posting . steve valinote the best stories always happen after the lights dimmed
Yes, we stood there in awe and history was made
I was there too!!!
Might have been early 1969…. Is NRBQ still playing so. Florida?
@@knuckle47 I’m sure they are still around. In 1967, When I was going to school in Freeport, Grand Bahama Island, they played at a place called the Joker’s Wild. I saw them again in Hollywood, Fla. in 1974, had some new members.
Hey Frank. That sounds too cool…Bahamas! I was at Miami Palmetto Senior HS. Fun days for sure
And NOBODY , ( no wizard that is , or ever was , can take that away from us .......!
Intensely unhinged musical greatness
Edgar Winters Roadwork album is still one of the best live records ever.
+ursarex Dude, I agree! Check out Kansas 2 for the Show, double live album, right up there.
Indeed.....no fix in the mix, no overdubs, not to mention Jerry Lacroix singing HIS ass off....BEST EVER
is that a boot?
absolutely correct!!!
Yes
Beaumont, Texas legends. Greatly underrated multi-instrumentalists. Noth Johnny and Edgar could play anything. Straight up bad asses. No one like those two, in all the world. We Texans love our Winters.👍☀️👍
So many astonishing blues musicians have come from Texas.
RESPECT!!!
Thats Not right. I always love Johnnys playing.
The Winter Brothers. The Vaughan Brothers. Music runs strong in Texas families. 🎶🎵🎶🎸🎶🎶
Unbelievable to see both at once. A rare treat, as both are fantastic musicians and blues vocalists.
I Have Never Had The Extreme Pleasure Of Seeing Or Hearing Them Play Together. Wow!
Im Blown Away! What An ExTremene Amount Of Talent Between The Two Of Them!
True musicians playing many instruments These dudes can rock
This is the first time I've ever given a thumbs up only 30 seconds into a video...
The winter brothers will always be part of musical history!❤
This is what I listened to in the late 60's as a junior high kid. I didn't know it was the blues, I just thought it was cool music.
Ridiculously good. Edgar flying on the tenor sax and soul on the Hammond. Johnny will never be replaced. No one has that Texas blues style like he had. Way ahead of his time. They were just so good together!!
alto sax
Amen Mike
Dig the way he plays some of the same licks on sax that were featured in his earlier organ solo. Gifted cats. Maybe because of camera or mic placement, Johnny's guitar dominates the mix. But that's a good reason to appreciate his complimentary rhythm guitar chops and smoking solo. Johnny plays cool lines in context with the chord structure and weaves them seamlessly. His solos never get repetitive. Listen to 30 seconds of any SRV solo and you've heard every lick he knew.
These guys are Targaryens. They don't sing, they are fire dragons. Damn, this is pure fire.
Doesn't seem real, does it? Like musical science fiction.
Like a high pitched growl nobldy else had. Anyone that was invited to Woodstock was NOT UNDERRATED man lets lose that stupid overstated echo comment and say sumpth original?
That was a PURE blend of all the Great Ones. Listen closer, and you can hear Muddy, Little Richard....you know.
Yummmm. Miss Edgar n Johnny born in 1961 my brother introduced me to both. Rest in peace David Cocciardi. Keep playing that jazz roll Edgar! Love your dedication album.
WoW! The Winter Brothers. Playing the Blues like the good lord intended.
meeting Johnny was the only time I ever felt star struck in my life.
and that was 40+ yrs ago.
Johnny and Edgar Winter have the most beautiful eyes. Those are two boys with soul.
Thank god i grew up in the 60;s and 70' we had the best soundtrack WOW thanks for this video so awesome Just turned 68
Yes we did! Most of the shit today is garbage!
RIP Johnny Winter, performed right up until he died.
I seen Edgar winter in the winter of 72 - 73 and his on core was Tobacco Road. What a treat it was and then humble pie took the stage. It was a night I will always remember.
These guys are amazing. Real guitar player, not a meaningless shredder. Every note counts.
Some of the very BEST musicians to ever play....the music and showmanship speaks for itself Edgar's voice, keyboard playing and sax work is astonishing.Johnny is probably one of the most under rated guitar players of all time. The speed and accuracy and phrasing of his licks blow me away.
>Johnny is probably one of the most under rated guitar players of all time
Where, on Mars?!
The Winters Brothers are very special to me, and very important to the blues. True players.
The best vocals of Tobacco Road ever!
This maybe be the standard for The Winters Brothers.
Thank you for this magnificent session.
Big fan
My fondest memory was seeing them together in a Beaumont roadhouse.

Give Ed the kudos he deserves, Please!! Two of the best musicians that ever walked!! Yay, John & Edgar!!
And his bro not to bad on the guitar....!!!
Brothers! Growing up together in the same household. Fabulous!
Wow
OMG. This is when music was REAL. Every band member played their own instrument of their liking. Of course they rocked out.
I had the most beautiful pure white albino cat. He had one green, and one blue eye, so Thank God he could hear me. I named him after Edgar Winter. One if the best living buds I've ever had!
GREAT NAME !!!! Very lucky indeed that he could hear. Catals are where its at!
I thought you were going to say your cat plays piano. Made me realize I've seen way too many cat vids. :)
so what
Long live Johnny Winter and may he continue to play blues in heaven
Caught them apart and together very fortunate lad I was .The best blues from two talented brothers killer back up players ❤
folks i think this is testament to the importance of getting out and playing with other musicians... the Winter brothers were both out in their local Texas/Louisiana music scene at young ages soaking it in, developing their ears and honing their craft
A lot of Malaysians must be thankful to Blues Gang for introducing us to the Blues. My friends and me surely are.
the winter brothers, still giving me goose bumps after all these years brilliant...
these are real people who understand LIFE they can compare with black bluesmusicians their feelings are so deep as their music you can hear and see beyond this world
Wow! No words adequate to describe this performance!!
So refreshing to see monster musicians just let loose. No auto tune or studio tricks here!
So TRUE, and so much more and all the guitar work in this song, by todays standards it's really beyond belief.
No hip hop racist i hate white people but i have no real talent autotune here folks. It is the real deal and i was there. I saw it with my own eyes. No one today can even play a musical instrument! Why do you fools keep listening to this schitt today?
When you put your soul into it and not get paid much under rated guitarist also Johnny
think harder Perfect. Nailed it. Well done!
Auto-tune is in Edgar’s head; he knows where each note is and how to pull it from his head to his throat.
ANYTIME THE TWO WINTER BROTHERS GO TOGETHER ON STAGE WAS SPECIAL! THIS TIME WAS ESPECIALLY SO!!!!
I hate the cold but these guys make me look forward to WINTER! What a great legacy these brothers have left.
Edgar is the man of 1000 talents.
Edgar too!!! Oh yes!! I always thought these two were beautiful to look at also .
I saw this very band for the first time at the Fillmore East I think I was 15 years old never could get enough of Johnny and Edgar after that
I remember seeing Johnny and Edgar Winter, along with Eric Clapton and B.B.King And Muddy Waters!!
When? Where in Chicago? Awesome!
Did you every hit B.L.U.E.S. on Halstead?
Holy shit dude...!!!
Wow! Can't even imagine all those people on the same stage! How freakin cool! What a treasured memory to have.
wow
Thank you UA-cam & whoever loaded this amazing live recording!! We'll have it for History & All Time. It's just Magical to see them do this together, I could listen on a loop of this all day long!!
Tell me what they COULDNT do!? Sax piano guitar drums musical geniuses. Edgar said about their upbringing that he and Johnny were “inseparable and they learned to play together” he said they could play “telepathically”
Sad Johnny died so soon. These two were musical geniuses for sure. Imagine growing up in Texas as 2 albino brothers? No one had seen anything like them. Now they’re reunited and playing endless blues even in heaven.
Music you feel in your soul, not just your ears.
Wtf, Edgar blows of the roof 🤩😱💪🏼
The Winter brothers are the most gifted musicians I’ve ever heard ... I do remember when young my school principal great Ruy introduced me to Johnny Winter it blow my mind , Ruy said I’ve heard you love the blues , man you’ve got hear this long hair albino guy with this rattlesnake cowboy hat he’s the best ever .... they are playing with future Double Trouble SRV’s Band .... man this is the best music I’ve ever heard .... thank you so much for posting .
Australia 🇦🇺
Really miss Johnny. What a great blues man, and a really funny guy.
Two brothers that parralled each other both really loving the blue's but having mainstream Hits and becoming better known for it, but this is what they both really love and loved most of all and it shows. R.I.P. Johnny.
this is hands down the best version of tobacco road!
So call the musicians cannot even compare to what these guys could do their vocal range their way they can play their instruments to wrote their own music they didn't have a bunch of producers synthesizing their music they were truly musicians they are the last of the greats we will never see Talent like this ever again
Saw Johnny and Edgar Winter together in the mid-70s in Michigan Grand Rapids Water phenomenal show one of the best performances ever will never forget it
I was at that same show. IT WAS KILLER
Saw Johnny Winter open for Heart in 1978, in Charleston, SC. I love Heart but Johnny absolutely blew them off stage!
Maaan was uncle John a killer drummer or what? He never hit a wrong lick nor hit one where it didn't belong, never too few, never too many, just perfection.
Q. How can one be almost out of breath just my listening? A. Hearing this intense version performed by such talented musicians.
Gotta love Edgar's vocals! It's so good that this early gig was professionally recorded.
I appreciate what an extraordinary talent Johnny Winter was
😂❤🎉 I was fortunate to see them at winterland in the 70s what a great Act
Some performances are just Epic, this is one of them.
Two legends that have left their mark on the music industry.
