Despite Edgar's scattered instrumental talents and associations it was Dan Hartman who caught my ear. Free Ride, Autumn,Round & Round,Instant Replay and I Can Dream About You..."They Only Come Out At Night" is in my top 25 albums list.Other than the radio smashes the rest of the album is a mix of feels, multi-talents and styles. And it sounds really great!

Everybody that played in The Edgar Winter Group were great musicians. Dan Hartman brought great vocals and some great songs to the band. He later went on to write and produce a lot of Dance music and more Pop oriented music.

Saw EWG on UK television “Old Grey Whistle Test” playing a set that finished with “Frankenstein”. The performance was pure energy, with the whole band seeming to enjoy their first exposure on British TV. Bob Harris, the show’s presenter, who would usually talk after the band finished, was almost speechless, his only comment “amazing”. Praise indeed.

Added detail: Blue Sky records was owned by Steve Paul, one-time owner of the Scene Club in NYC, later manager of Johnny, Edgar, and many other acts. The label issued two great albums by Muddy Waters, one by Howlin' Wolf, two by David Johansen, and a few other nice choices.
    Great video. Thanks!

Ya got it wrong about Edgar a Child Prodigy, his mother was a pianist who taught him how to play the keyboard. His brother Johnny helped him to get a contract with Epic Records in New York. His hit song Keep Playing That Rock and Roll lyrics explains on his album They Only Come Out At Night along with his classic hits Frankenstein and Free Ride. In 1975 they're last album as a group was The Edgar Winter Group with Rick Derringer recorded on Blue sky Records, with slumping sales of that album and Jasmine Night dream's it was then when the band broke up, it was a mutual agreement everyone wanted to pursue other projects, but their last live concert was in San Diego, Ca titled Edgar and Johnny Winter Live in the year of 1976.

White Trash took on the elements of the Gulf Coast roadhouse sound, gritty soul and blues dance music. All the musicians were veterans of the Golden Triangle area, and their music defined the '60's & early '70's in coastal Texas and Louisiana. The "White Trash" studio album, featuring Jerry LaCroix's growling, heavily gospel influenced vocals, was a classic in its genre and an all-time great album. There is a cameo by Johnny in "I've Got News for You", and by Rick Derringer in "Keep Playing that Rock and Roll."

for me a die-hard fan of Edgar Winter group it was not the same after the blue album ( 1975) , it was not the ''group'' anymore , no Derringer, Hartman and Ruff ....it was less rock and the songwriting was so/so at times even the music style was changed at times ....anyway, Derringer was gone to make his solo career....

I saw the edgar winter group in the gym at S.U.N.Y. Delhi , New York before " they only come out at night" appeared. They were a quintet. Dan hartman and ronnie montrose on guitars. Randy hobbs on bass. The power went out at one point. I was standing directly below dan hartman and he said: " we can play acoustically for you. ". As his hand raked across the strings of his white stratocaster.

Edgar is extremely talented in a number of musical styles, but I've always felt that he would spread himself too thin. Had he picked a more specific musical style (Like Johnny did with the blues) instead of dabbling with this and that he would have probably had more success in the long run.
