I’m a young guy myself (25), and I was lucky enough to work with my Uncle on his farm from ages 12 to 15 who played nothing but the Classic Rock Station in the work truck. I also had a neighbor who grew up in 60’s and 70’s and introduced me to Pink Floyd. Changed my life in the best way possible. I’m not sure I would have made it this far without the music I’ve found along the way, but I’m still here, and I’ll keep listening.
Wait till you get to Pink Floyd - The Wall album. The life story of fictional character Mr Pink Floyd from fatherless childhood, frightened school boy, young Rock Star, broken marriage, drugs, mental decline, a dabbling with Fascism, and eventual mental breakdown into madness! Pink builds his mental Wall to block out feelings and pain only to find it becomes a prison. Definitely have the lyrics to hand if possible for this one, it will literally blow your mind!
The Pink Floyd rabbit hole runs deep my Friend, Don't Stop, it's a journey of a lifetime that you will be most grateful for taking, looking forward to following you down the rabbit hole my Friend, God Bless.
Can people please stop saying the album, or even the title track, was written about Syd Barrett? Here are the quotes from Floyd to indicate this: Waters, who wrote the lyrics, has said: “There’s one song that’s about Syd (“Shine on You Crazy Diamond”), but the rest of it isn’t. It’s a much more universal expression of my feelings about absence. Because I felt that we weren’t really there. We were very absent." Gilmour also added: “Although “Shine on You Crazy Diamond” is the one that is specifically about Syd, and “Wish You Were Here” has a wider remit, I can’t sing it without thinking about Syd.” These quotes appear at 14:08 and 53:17 on the DVD “The Story of Wish You Were Here”.
You have started a journey that has no end!! This music will be in your soul forever. Pink Floyd is the only band I know of that the whole is 1000 times the sum of the parts. You should check out the song echoes. It was the last song on their album Meddle, that was their album before Dark side of the moon. It’s more than 20 minutes long. Roger Waters ( their original bass player ) credits the song as the band finding their sound.
The whole album is a tribute to Sid Barrett - the original lead singer of Pink Floyd who had severe mental health difficulties and had to leave the band. That is why it is called Wish you were here.
Shine on you crazy diamond is about Syd. Welcome to the machine and have a cigar is about the music industry. WYWH is about just missing people in a way.
Notice that Pink Floyd loved to begin and end their albums with symmetry. Dark Side of the Moon opens and ends with a heartbeat fading up in the opening and then fading out as the album ends. Wish You Were Here opens and ends with essentially two different versions of the same song, the first part opens the album and is called Shine On You Crazy Diamond (parts 1-5). Then the album closes with the second part called Shine On You Crazy Diamond (parts 6-9). Then Animals begins and ends with yet another song divided into two parts, opening with Pigs On the Wing (part 1) and then ending with Pigs On the Wing (part 2).
Great reaction! The Wall is also amazing but do not Skip Animals which is the album between WYWH and The Wall. There are also some amazing albums before The Dark Side of the Moon worth checking: Meddle, Obscured by Clouds, Atom Heart Mother. Take that plunge into the rabbit hole 🙂
Have A Cigar is about the record business and all the BS the band encountered, told from the point of a record executive. " The band is just fantastic that is really what I think, oh by the way which ones Pink? " was a line showing how ignorant they are. The end , when the sound gets real small, is showing what happened to their music after they let producers "finish" the master recording.
The real reason SOYCD "bookends" the album parts I-5 & 6-9 is that it was just a bit too long to fit on one side of a vinyl record! So you either cut your work of art down to make it fit.... Or you use it to open and close the entire album. 😉

Please react to Pink Floyd's Echoes in Pompeii, the live version, I think it was 1975, the bass line is pretty much the same as in the first song on this part 2. See them when they were young, some pretty good drumming from much under rated Nick Mason. I think you'll love it!!
This album was written in response to the band’s treatment from their record label. The album Dark Side of the Moon was an enormous success and made the record company millions while the band made peanuts in comparison. The song Have a Cigar is a parody of the recording industry executives meeting the band. Hence the executive asking. “ Oh by the way, which ones Pink?”

"Have a Cigar" is the third track on Pink Floyd's 1975 album Wish You Were Here follows "Welcome to the Machine" and on the original LP opened side two. In some markets, the song was issued as a single. English folk-rock singer Roy Harper provided lead vocals on the song.

I enjoyed your reaction to Dark Side of the Moon, and I was hoping that you would do this album. I got heavily into Pink Floyd in my late teens (I'm 50 now), and listening to them completely changed the way I thought about and listened to music. In the best possible way. All these years later, I still listen to them quite often. Especially this album. It's really cool to see a young person on the Pink Floyd journey. I look forward to watching you react to Animals. Completely different vibe, but it's another masterpiece.
You need to be stoned to REALLY love it! They weren't ahead of their time. We have let all of the GOOD music drift away! It will all be LOST if you young people don't look BACK! Even the Beatles had some of this kind of sound late in their career. Psychedelics were everywhere, magic mushrooms, lots of pot. You have to investigate the sixties and seventies. This was his favorite group. My son died at 33 in 2007. Wish you were here is my song for him. The lyrics in this music have to be understood like poetry. THink! It's work honey. I am a 75 year old grandmother. I still am the same as I was back then.
That was awesome bro😂 Pink Floyd are masters of sound , I was in stitches when you thought your head phones packed up. I've listened to Floyd all my life I was born on lsd in 1978 and the day I was born and got home I was played on a cushion with speakers each side playing Pink Floyd. Love my mum and dad ❤ my dad passed away 20 years ago and I had wish you where here played at his cremation
Absolutely loving this guy..appreciating good shit when he hears it.. It's also hilarious coz I know these albums inside out so I know when the good bits are coming and I'm excited for him...His reactions, facial expressions abd dance moves are fantastic 😁😁❤❤😍😍
He was listening to the radio. Then he picked up his acoustic guitar and started playing along. Pink Floyd was very deep in their song structure as you know.
Ha, ha, I love it! I love it when you say "This could be one of my favorite songs." You're in the samr boat as the rest of us now. It's like they're all our favorite songs. Keep going brother.
If you're wondering about the two guys shaking hands on the album cover, the left one represents the record company and the right one, who is on fire, is the musician getting burned. This was before photoshopping, so they actually set a stunt man on fire! For the album "The Wall," they made a movie that tells the story along with the music. I suggest watching it after listening to the album. I've never seen a reaction video to the movie.

All these years later, I still listen to them quite often. Especially this album. It's really cool to see a young person on the Pink Floyd journey. I look forward to watching you react to Animals. Completely different vibe, but it's another masterpiece.
Totally loving your reaction. You've made this so much fun. Thank you dude.
"How is he doing that!?" well you see, he's a guitar god.
Okay, NOW this is Wish you were here... thank you! (this is, in fact, probably my favorite by PF.. also about Syd)
Absolutely loving this guy..appreciating good shit when he hears it.. It's also hilarious coz I know these albums inside out so I know when the good bits are coming and I'm excited for him...His reactions, facial expressions abd dance moves are fantastic 😁😁❤❤😍😍
Concept album. That's what this is. Just a few of what they made.
Love your Pink Floyd reactions little brother! Keep Rockin it!
I hope this moves Everyone! Love this!
Also..the way he shouts coz he had the headphones in is hilarious and so cute😂😂😂

I love how much you love these last 2 Albums!
If you're liking this, i think you would really enjoy a band called Yes. Amazing bass. Start with Roundabout.
finally, sb doin pt2,
it's usually overlooked.
Roy Harper on vocals for Have a Cigar.
Yep, honey,it wasn’t a toothpick in our hands lol❤😂😂😂
Checking his new headphones for defect was hysterical!
I really thought they were broken😂😂
He was listening to the radio. Then he picked up his acoustic guitar and started playing along.
Pink Floyd was very deep in their song structure as you know.
Continue the Pink Floyd roll!
I know you are on your pink floyd trip at the moment - you should give Genesis (Foxtrot) a listen.
just wait till he reacts to the Animals album
Ha, ha, I love it! I love it when you say "This could be one of my favorite songs." You're in the samr boat as the rest of us now. It's like they're all our favorite songs. Keep going brother.
This dude is nuts ... I like it 😄
If you're wondering about the two guys shaking hands on the album cover, the left one represents the record company and the right one, who is on fire, is the musician getting burned. This was before photoshopping, so they actually set a stunt man on fire!
For the album "The Wall," they made a movie that tells the story along with the music. I suggest watching it after listening to the album. I've never seen a reaction video to the movie.
🤔 I saw the film first when I was a teen and I’m not sure I would’ve understood the album without first seeing the movie (at that age).
@@MizzBirdieBee I didn't understand the film until I watched it sober and with someone who explained it, which wasn't until my 3rd or 4th viewing!
