I've listened to Pink Floyd for 50 years. Drunk, stone and sober, they take you places. It's great when you're in a bad mood aka angry, you can't be angry listening to hearing Floyd.
The reason the track WYWH starts in mono, is it represents the artist hearing their old hit on an AM Radio, and basking in yesterday's triumph, he picks up a guitar and jams along before we are transported into the song looking back and wishing someone lost was still here.
What Pink Floyd understood more than any other band in history is the value of silence in a composition. They really came to a point where they only put their very best take in their tunes and made them as pure and "aerial" as possible. Shine On is a great example of this.
Welcome my son, Welcome to the Machine. Where have you been? Its alright we know where you been. 48 yrs of listening to this. Still top of the line stuff.
the "what is that?, crazy, cool, almost unidentifiable, " stuff is rick on key boards he contributed in a HUGE way to the sound of the floyd, often under appreciated/ under rated musicians ever
Everything you heard here is produced by guitars (David Gilmour), bass (Roger Waters), keyboards - piano, organ, synth (Richard Wright), and drums (Nick Mason)- all layered to absolute perfection. The Saxophone solos are courtesy of the inimitable Dick Parry.
Your joy is my joy. I remember the first time I heard Floyd as a teenager. I’m 61 now and it still sounds as fresh and groundbreaking as it did back then.
your right music is timeless and universal. I listen to all genres and languages, but there is no one close to Floyd. How do you class them? they are universal and timeless.
Music is … A higher revelation than all Wisdom & Philosophy. Floyd is a magical sound experience that can transport u out of this world. Its a true out of body experience. My first concert to see Floyd was in 1977 Riverfront Coliseum, Cincinnati. I was 13/14 yrs old a smitten by their sound. They ended up having sound problems, (what they call pink noise) but even with a hiccup it was truly amazing. 1988 in Columbus, Ohio, 1994/95 in Cleveland, Ohio The Division Bell Tour/PULSE. Thanx so much, Peace
Tag, hehehe, well us women should be able to be straightforward on what we like and dont. To many r afraid or embarrassed. I see it as, be up front with everything. Cant expect people to read our minds or layback and be unhappy because of the thought that woman shouldnt talk about such things or afraid of repercussions. Life is to short. U'll never be judged or found inappropriate just for having a bit of innocent fun. At least by me and K. I think thats why K and I get along so well. I’m telling you after Sgt. Pepper? Music was blown wide open the sky’s the limit you can do ANYTHING with sound. Music without lyrics is abstract, it’s “just” sound. There are artist who work only with sound, and singers who never use words 😊 I love weird, industrial, nutty, sinister, but also BEAUTY, SOUL and JOY. Fuse two genres and I’m there,🎉
I'm back from TDSOTM video you did, I've seen the Floyd 22 times in my lifetime so far. Best was Merriweather Post Pavillion in Maryland in 1974 for this album. They also played most of Dark side and a few from their upcoming album "Animals"! This song is about Syd Barrett, the Floyd's founding member "who reached for the secret too soon"(drove crazy by too much LSD).
That sound is modular analogue. These guys had analogue modular synths back in the 1970s, that have only recently come back in fashion in the past 10 years.
No trumpet. Just synthesizer. Shine on you crazy diamond 1-5, welcome to the machine, have a cigar, wish you ere here, shine on you crazy diamond 6-9. It’s a tribute to their founder Syd Barret who they lost to mental health.
My only Pink Floyd concert as in 1994 in Toronto ON Canada. The show was pushed back because of an annual show called "Rings of fire". This was an event over several nights featuring classical music accompanied by fireworks. So we dropped some LSD, watched the fireworks and went into the stadium. I was 30, I'd never seen so many senior citizens smoking pot in my life. This was the first tour after Roger Waters Left the band. Then I got to see Roger Waters across the road in 1994, same thing. Mind U Rogers show was like 3 + hrs long with no breaks. Each show was amazing.
The machine is the music industry. Have a cigar is the big wigs trying to suck The group into contracts for record albums. Wish you were here is continuing its lament for Syd.
Clicked Soon as I saw this! S hine on Y ou crazy D iamond along with the rest of the album dedicated to Syd Barrett who had been dropped from the band suffering severe mental health issues and the effects of drug abuse a few years earlier. Syd was loved and dearly missed by his friends. During recording, an overweight bald man with shaved off eyebrows wandered into the studio. It took several minutes before they realised this was their old dear friend Syd! Roger cried when he saw what the bright attractive man he once knew had become.
reacting to classic Floyd is just great and fine , and i and many others will never get enough of this but dude , wanna take a leap of faith..........? yeah, ya do .... go listen to Syd barretts two solo albums , the madcap laughs and the other self titled Barrett .. you won't regret it.
You asked how did they think of it when you are hearing certain instruments? Barry Gibb the singer-songwriter from the Bee Gees said that music would just come to him like out of the sky. There's been other singers that have said the same thing. It's like God helps them.🎉❤🎉❤
My fav Floyd LP , my fav track of Floyd is Echoes 23 mins long on the album Meddle , if you do that song do the LP version , this is a tribute to the founder of Pink Floyd Syd Barrett (Shine on Crazy Diamond) . Syd only made the first album oan 1 track on the second LP due to a LSD overload
October 31st 1970 university of Toledo. There album meddle came out the day before. They played echoes totally blew me away. You should check it out. Tickets were $2.50 Peace ✌️
@JusticeServ I went to a Pink Floyd concert that was in 2016-sh, Just Roger Waters and he played "The Wall" from the 70's. Granted the rest of the band wasn't there, but their was a full on plane crash, a Wall being built between the audience and the band as the show went on and by the time the end of the concert, the Wall was 70 feet tall and 150 feet wide. It was separating the audience and the band. 240 4k projectors that made it seems like it was raining blood, a 25 foot by 25 foot flying PIG with red laser eyes flying above the crowd. It was 250 for the ticket, but was a priceless experience. Best bang for the buck I have ever spent!!!!
I've been watching through all of your Pink Floyd reactions and loving them! I'm 28 and have been a huge fan since I was a little kid, and it's great to see other young folks getting into them. Just keep listening through all of their albums - even off camera if you want - they're all such a unique experience. From here I would recommend reacting to: The Wall (Comfortably Numb album), Animals (more long form PF greats), and the song Echoes (or all of Meddle if you want, but Echoes is truly what shines from the album). I'm a big fan of the post-Roger Waters era so from there I'd say to listen to A Momentary Lapse of Reason and The Division Bell. But... if you really like The Wall, definitely go for The Final Cut first. A lot of the songs from that album are basically outtakes from The Wall. Listen to the rest of the albums in Any Order You Like ;)
I saw Pink Floyd at the old stadium for the New England Patriots in 1994 and Roger Waters perform "The Wall" in Boston, I think in 2010. I haven't actually seen many concerts.
thanks, Justice .. this is actually "Shine on...(really this album.. and also "Dark Side" were largely dedicated to Syd Barrett) but when you find "Wish you were Here".. that is probably my favorite... appreciate your reactions; it takes a lot of patience to "get" PF... ! (p.s. most of the "instruments" that sound like trumpet, etc.. are the genius Richard Wright on keys... except for David Gilmour on guitar.. and saxophone.. which is REAL).. Look forward to more from you...
There is only one way to listen to this whole album. Turn off the lights and fire up a big fatty and enjoy the experience. remember one thing listening to Pink Floyd they will get yo there when it's time. never in a hurry. 1976 I bought a high dollar quad receiver and this album. At the end of this song the front channels went off . I'm Pissed off. Then it goes straight into the next song with only the back channels and they gradually bring the fronts back in. Amazing
Shine On U Crazy Diamond was a totally different song. But both songs were about the loss of founding member Syd Barret who dealt with mental issues and drug abuse and spent most on his life in mental Asylums. Tho he made cameo's on albums even tho he left the band after the first album "Pipers At The Gates Of Dawn".
I've seen them in Bordeaux, for the '94 Division Bell Tour... Best concert ever. (Although I'm a "nazi-purist" of Pink Floyd up until The Wall, don't really enjoying their productions post-Waters the same way).

You are correct! The instruments are part of the band! We appreciated instruments and the great talents that played rhem so well!
