  • In this podcast episode, Kiyomi interviews an ROCD Course Community graduate and AIR member. The interviewee talks about her surprising journey with people pleasing in Relationship OCD. We learn about how anxiety and ROCD has helped her, what it's taught her, how to know if you have a coping mechanism of people pleasing, ways it shows up in ROCD and your relationship, how it begins, how society encourages people pleasing and how you can use people pleasing as a path to awaken in your relationship with yourself and your partner.

This is insane... I went through the same thing of "are we just friends?" After getting a tarot card reading from my grandma saying my partner and I would end up as such. Tarot and psychic readings would be a great topic to talk about for people with ROCD that've gone through the same situation.

I get that same exact thought! My boyfriend and I were really close friends before becoming a couple. Sometimes I’ll be like “what if we’re just friends?” “What if I think of him as just a friend?” “What if I really don’t love him?” And it’s so terrible, because I know I think so much more of him, and I love him in a way I’ve never loved anyone else before. I’m happy people actually have this issue as well, because I know I’m not alone :)

Lovely podcast! Kiyomi, I haven't done the course but your videos alone has helped me IMMENSELY and changed my life. I suffered from ROCD for two full years in my 6 year relationship and had no clue what I was going through, it was torture. I discovered your videos about 5 months ago and my life has been better than ever. I'm at peace. Content. I see things differently now. Most definitely awakened. Thank you so much.

This was so important! Thank you Ezster for sharing your progess with us, this was so reassuring to me because I see a lot of parallels to my own obsessive thoughts. Seeing you grow this much at 19, I feel more hopeful for myself since I'm just 20 as well. I'm really touched by how affectionate and supportive your boyfriend has been with all of this. That is something really beautiful. Very happy for you and congrats on awakening!

Am I the only one but when I am starting to feel the love and compassion again my mind doesn’t want it and I get thrown back into being depressed?

You may have to look into your past traumas. We may have many contributing factors to out negative feelings and intrusive thoughts. If you have a certain attachment style or have been in abusive situations in the past (with parents or partners or friends) you may be subconsciously seeking sadness and instability because it is what you are used to. As a person suffering from many childhood traumas sometimes i catch myself trying to replicate the toxicity i have faced prior because its familiar and feeling healthy and happy is foreign and scary to me

Can I have a podcast? 🥺. I volunteer to do it. I am 18 years old and it hit me at late 16 during my relationship with my narcissistic ex. It traumatized me, and it got worse throughout that relationship. Afterwards, my breakup with him was hard and hit really hard, but after I found myself and I was over him, I actually started to look for another relationship and was open to a new relationship. I found my new boyfriend who is literally perfect, and we’ve been together for a little over 4 months. ROCD has been affecting me hard a little after a month and even during the very beginning, but I knew it was ROCD by then and I fought it. My boyfriend actually helped me through my journey, and I literally never appreciated someone for entering my life so much before. He’s in the army so I had to take the training wheels off and cope with it by myself without him when he left for boot camp. He’s gonna be back soon, but it’s been hard to deal with it by myself, but I’m actually doing so much better thanks to this course and self-therapy. I’d love to talk about my journey if you guys wouldn’t mind doing a podcast of me.

Hi Eszter! I'm also from Hungary:D but I just can't keep getting off the thought that even with ROCD people can get themselves in bad relationships, or not good enaugh relationships. For example I know that I never dated a guy who was my "type" that may be because my type is perfect with rocd, but even other people told me they weren't attractive, and I know I liked them because they had a "care giver" side, or at least it seemed like they had. I can't really let myself to actually choose, I just like to be chosen and I feel deeply ashamed for it.
