The machine needs more water in it. Less water and detergent equals less clean clothes.

I have to put a bucket of water in my GE GFWR4800F2WW washer in any large load to ensure the clothes become saturated with some water in the basket. Horrible you can't un-eco it.

So little that it has no water sitting in the bottom of the drum during the wash cycle for large loads? I add water until there is about 1 inch of excess water.

dish soap suds even more than regular detergent so you should never use them in washing machines because if you do your machine will become a suds factory as more and more suds come out of the overflow vent or the soap dispenser and it may be impossible to completely remove all suds in the machine because some suds are not hydrophobic and so they won't dissolve in water

Great point, Hays. You are correct you should never use dish washing soap in your GE washer. Thanks for sharing! -SF

GE Appliances Maybe you can help me. I have a front loader GE washing machine. I excessively used regular non automatic detergent powder to wash my bed sheets (just this one time) and it suddenly stopped and leaked. Since then it doesn't want to start. The computer screen works, but the motor won't run. Any help what I should do?

Hi Yasmin - let the suds dissipate (this may take several hours). If your model has a front access door, check the pump filter to make sure it's not clogged. After the suds are gone, see if you can cancel the cycle so that the water will drain out - then set up a new cycle. However if these suggestions don't help, we'd recommend contacting service - here's a link:

      Good luck! -CC

GE Appliances Thank you so much for your prompt and thorough reply. Unfortunately I don't live in the USA so the service link won't do me much help. My model has a dryer and a front access door. I can't be sure where the pump filter is.....I did cancel the cycle but the water is still on the stainless (what do we call it) cylinder/round tray inside. I do set up dlnew cycles but it won't start. Please try your best to help me through pieces of advice. Is it possible that the motor got ruined coz of the suds or what happened? It was functioning perfectly till the day before yesterday.

Who the heck decide washing machines need less water. Give us our old full water machines back we will decide on our own water levels.

      Hi Carol,
Thanks for reaching out. We did want to say that the Department of Energy (DOE) sets standards for washer water usage. Over the years, the amount of allowable water usage has been reduced. With washers using less water and energy, you will no longer see a wash basket full of water. Most washers are now programmed with load sensing to adjust water levels based on the cycle and load size, so the amount of water used will vary.
We don't recommend that you manually add more water to the washer. Some models have a Deep Fill option which adds additional water to the wash load, regardless of whether you used a manual or a load-sensing fill. If you'd like to learn more about average water usage in a washer, you can click here: spklr.io/6051iCW5
      All the best. -MS

I use normal detergent and it is fine with me. As long you don't put too much of it.

Hi Collin - high efficiency detergent is designed to clean well while using less detergent. Just using less of regular detergent may not give you the cleaning results you desire so we recommend the use of high efficiency detergents in our washers. Nowadays there are many different brands of HE detergent so you've got lots of choices! Thanks -CC
