Oliveira's run this entire tournament was amazing to watch. So many absolutely insane games with nail biting finishes.
biting your nails is a bad habit
it can lead to cancer
@@grishy8203 EXACTLY
I thought some one paid couple people off😂
Maru: The ghosts
Byun: the frantic last minute bio splits
Clem: The mines
Olivera: the defence-in-depth-tank positioning
4 different flavors of Terran... all beautiful.
Is it clem or cure about the mines tho?
@@mr.mystery9338 Clem at his best always set up 3 mines sith his bio and advances his bio just behind the front one and uses the other ones as his avenue of retreat. How he doesnt friendly fire his armies to death always astounds me. Clem's tanks tend to bring tears (relatively).
The Oliveira story is like an anime come to life.
Oliveria got through the group stage by 1 map… not game, map… The ultimate underdog story!
Reminded me of soo's run in 2019, iirc he also barely made out of the groups but was quite dominant in the ro12 onwards, beating Zest, Serral, hero and Stats to win Katowice 2019
Game 2 deserves to be turned into an action film.
Only a fool doesn’t fear a Normal Man. Olivera was a lesson in humility to everyone who thought highly of themselves this year. Perhaps it was simply…. His Time.
You know a Terran is feeling supremely confident when sees a mass of banelings rolling at him, and he stands his ground to target them down instead of splitting to minimize the damage.
That's a good point - he did this repeatedly and it worked out just fine. Definitely a confident playing style against the former world champion!
When there's a huge fight and at the end of it the caster yells THE MARINES STAND TALL i get goosebumps
That's when you understand perfectly that there isn't enough banelings. Absolutely no fear
I have a feeling even Oliveira is looking over the replays of this entire tournament over and over again and appreciating his work of what he did. Every day he would be doing this with a great smile on his face.
He played so beautiful and was the most beautiful tactical genius displays from a Terran player I have ever seen throughout a tournament.
That last game though, absolute terran perfection. The tank lines, the marine reinforce non-stop, the splits.
A guy who was ranked 21st in the world, whoes best record and dream was top 8 before, whoes country does not even have SC2 server now, who had no team helping him among the matches, and whoes last tounament was 0-6 such that he even retired the name TIME, has now take down the worlds' all top 4 players and the every 1st ranked player of Z, P, and T in the tournament. Literally no one can doubt the genuine of this champ title.
Hey Winter, I just want to say your casting videos have been absolutely on point this year! You've mentioned that the channel is doing better, or that you're feeling better, or maybe some of both, but it absolutely shows! Your enthusiasm, humor, and edutainment style has made SC2 a joy to watch. Thank you!!!
1:01:45 was definitely amazing. Almost a cinematic advance from Oliveira
this years ESL was insane from start to finish and Oliveira put a golden crown on top of it
God damn... this is exactly how i envisioned terran in my head if i was ever able to play that well. Absolutely beautiful. almost like its exactly how terran is supposed to be played.
Thanks for narrating SC2 games all these years, I love watching your videos and being glued to the screen because of the excitement of the game and the way you describe it
Oliveira was an absolutely madman. Historical by all words
I really liked that Oliviera never back down from a fight. Always pushing and rarely retreating. Well done!
Totally agree, thumb up to that spirit.
Oliveira adopting the George Patton strategy of never paying for the same real estate twice.
01:09:51 Winter sounding downright emotional there
... and the BGM is backing that all up. Good work there Jimmy.
love that your loving casting so much brother bc we'r here for it!
I have a theory that Oliveira (Time) is actually employing techniques from various games here such as Age of Empires and other strategy games. I've used that funneling technique on AofE instead of a wall off and works really well. Especially with the fact that Reynor is under a high amount of stress while under attack.
Its funny how humble Winter is. Yes ur Commentary has improved alot but like ever are u the best SC2 Commentator i will always only watch. Keep it up!
Time actually repairing his air units, absolute madness.
Even if you say smashing the like button isn't as relevant, I will still do my duty
Any pro terran repairing (non BC) air units is pretty rare!
Thanks for the great content. Been my weekly meditation through college and now i graduated. I can support you. Keep up the great work🙏
When you say, "... Against the Former champion", I déjà vu almost instantly at WWF and the early WWE days 20 years ago, excitedly reciting, "Against the Former World Heavyweight Champion... Brrrrrrrrrockkkkkkk Lesssssnaaaaaaaarrrrrrr!
Also I always had an eye on Time after watching that one video of yours where he was going up against Serral and was slugging it out. He had incredible Bane targeting then too.
It's good you enjoy casting SC2 because we enjoy watching the games with you! The commentary makes it much more fun and informative :)
Massive respect to Reynor as well this game. With all the pressure of him being the previous world champion and Olivera being seen as not on the same level at all as Reynor I feel Reynor took the loss very well.
A lot of players could get upset or annoyed going 2-0 up, looking like a blow out just to get ground down in the next 3 games, but Reynor gave him the Well played at the end of the series and it certain was well played. Definitely deserved, big respect to both players
Just looking at these comments. Yeah we all loved the winner's performance. So fun to watch it happen live!
I just cannot get over how skilled these players are. I was so caught up in the series but this one marine split made me notice how much other stuff they're doing so quickly.
Just one example at 1:14:53, Oliveira:
Queues up 2 marines
Retreats some forces
Scrolls his camera to his reinforcements
Sieges his tank
Splits his marines into 3 small groups
Queues up 3 more marines
Selects his army and A-moves
Unsieges the tank
Queues up 1 more marine
in the span of about four seconds. What the fuck. What a series.
Fantastic series, one of the most dramatic I've seen in a long long time. A victory well won Oliveira.
Was literally cheering during video. Oliveiras playing was great to see and love underdog coming through.
the problem with fighting late game zerg with, well, anything really in sc1 was plague: instant-cast ability from the defiler that deals approximately 500 health damage over a massive area (bypasses shields), it couldn't technically kill anything but it took almost any unit and even half the structures in the game down to the point where mutalisk bounces finished them off, defiler abilities were so powerful that they would be borderline game breaking even without their consume ability and since a defiler could just eat two zerglings and cast another plague or dark swarm adding it to a unit comp just straight up hard countered literally any unit in the game as long as you could input 2 commands for each of your opponent's 30 or so depending on their comp (including zerg ones so in theory they hated them too but usually ZvZ was a quick and brutal fight balancing trying to kill them at the 3 minute mark with lings vs having 1 more mutalisk than your opponent when they could first pop).
what you were describing wasn't so much a _good_ composition for terran to use against zerg as it was the _only_ composition terran could even pretend to use against late-game zerg, it was just quite literally the only thing that you could try to do since you can spread tanks out really far and their splash still deals some damage against units inside a dark swarm, next best option for terran lategame against zerg would be to make half your army science vessels and spend the game trying to cast irradiate a couple times a second...and try to keep them alive with 1 hitpoint and no ground army...yeahno.
all that said the game really did mostly come down to who could control things better and who was better at prioritizing where to put their valuable attention, what made defilers and to a lesser degree storm so stupidly overpowered wasn't the outright power of the abilities it was how much attention and how many actions were required to respond to them: that "2 actions vs 30 or so" is not an exaggeration, it's an understatement since it doesn't mention that those 30 commands take place over a large and varried span of time and a situation dependent plan of action vs literally just hitting a key and clicking your mouse. it'd actually be a lot more than ~30 but you don't have good odds of anything hit by plague living to a point where it can start recovering.
Orange cloud
@@chloesmith4065 I did mention dark swarm in there didn't I? or did I get distracted ranting about plague and consume...
...yes I did but only in passing and I definitely did not explain and/or stress how much of an effect it has or how much it limits options, it is just as much of a "change the tide of battle in two clicks, then eat two zerglings and do it again" ability as plague is. it is nearly as powerful, nearly as annoying and intensive to deal with, and unlike plague dark swarm singlehandedly dictates your opponent's entire potential action set and methodology.
I want to say what I think about this match in Spanish: Ha sido una gloriosa batalla. Esto resume lo que es StarCraft II
bro you are crushing the commentary! Every one of these match ups gets my so amped up
"I'm 1/3 terran myself" this has to go into the Winter audio pak
Awesome series 👍! Even though I haven't played SC2 in a few years now (bronze league hero here lol) I still love watching your casts, SC2 is definitely the most enjoyable E-sport to watch imo. Keep up the great work
Those siege lines are stuff nightmares are made out of.
24:26: One game from elimination
Goes on to win the tournament 😭 he was so inspiring this tournament
Usually I think BO5s are too long but these games were all so epic I don't mind.
“A normal man”
Possibly my favorite card
I always laugh and smile when the FUSSSSIOOOON CORE!! song comes on and declaration is made.
I only caught the last 2 games live. But man, some of Raynor's reactions are heart breaking.
I think you are doing yourself a disservice by not adding a reaction to the player's cam in the end of the video. Some of Maru's at the final are classics too
Great cast Winter! Thanks!
Thank you for the cast! I don't know about other people but I enjoy your coverage.
don't even play sc2, but love your content - u give a lot of context, and it feels like I already know the players and meta due to your great commentary, keep it up! cheers from brazil
This was a badass watch!!! Winter's game call from basically 59:00 on was top notch!
Cialdini's principle of commitment - love it! Smash that like button. Awesome cast. Thank you, Winter. I watch them all to the end. You are doing a great job.
You're honestly the best there is. Besides the Arty and Tasty combo of course.
You had me until the final part. Disagree. Wynty Fresh's attitude, knowledge, sarcasm, and comedic value aka Brend lol, make these casts re-watchable many times over.
Unfortunately tastosis at ESL just aren't very good. Can't compare to them feeling comfortable at GSL
My favorite round of the tournament, the cota-finals.
Winter: "does queen taste like chicken?"
UK viewer: "hmmmm... where is the tomb again?"
Those blue flame Hellchads came in clutch. Underestimated & Underrated, much like Oliveira!
Happy you loving this year mate, because we loving watching you!
I've watched Oliveira's games already but have to come back to the best SC2 caster - Blizzard needs to put Winter on the pay roll.
Best commentary in the west, probs the middle section of earth too
Great cast as usual Winter and an excellent choice of series to cast too!
The quality of the games this past few months have just been insane. What an impressive come back!
i freaking luved this tournament it was just simply amazing, sc2 still slaps!!!
"I'm getting better. It's Time to take a Latin nickname!"
MMA fighter fan tribute name, Oliveira, and that fighting spirit came along with it. Cage brutal matches all over. It was just Time now since TIME held him back before. TIME=ping. Ha ha.
Wow, awesome series. Great cast, Winter!
One man beats down all the top dog: HeroMarine, Reynor, HerO, Maru !!! What a TIME to be alive ;))
That was fantastic. Best seris I have seen in ages too
im 39 years old and i loved starcraft broodwars... love your content, dont like you telling me i'm old.... though i'm not young... but nice content sc ftw
Bruh I'm loving Oliveira gameplay! So entertaining. Amazing gameplay! GG
LOVE YOU WINTER. THE ABSOLUTE GOAT OF SC2 CASTING
that black bomber jacket and gold rim glasses clearly gave him the bravado needed to pull a legendary championship run.
Awsome! Olivera! This video:Its about damb "Time"
1:02:10 Libs killing broodlords!!
Honestly winter underestimates lib AA damage. It's not fast, but it's not really slow either. It's slow to *kill* units, and as a result it's poor at dedicated AA since it's expensive and doesn't actually reduce the threat from the enemy (since you're doing steady damage across the board not killing individual units), so as a result libs don't really live long enough for their attack to measure up. But if you have several libs, or just a few with an upgrade advantage; I mean it's 10 damage a shot, very few air units have that much health. Overlords are an exception, really
This series, is more than epic
Winter, I would LOVE to see one broodwar game casted by you. Maybe not as a regular thing but like a one time even that would be awesome-
We all support you, and your work, and we all are impressed by your work and how you manage to work so well despite Jimmys neverending failures.
The issue with the ultra buffs is that they've been buffing ultras in all the ways that ultras didn't NEED any buffs. Sure, they're pretty nice buffs, but if the ultras aren't killing anything, you're still spending too much.
Look, ultralisks require 450 worker-seconds of resources, give or take. An *entire* 60 drone economy takes up to 7 full seconds to fund a single ultralisk. Zerg usually needs to make like 10 ultralisks, so thats 70 FULL SECONDS of economy that basically stops existing, all for a group of units that doesn't kill anything and then dies in a quarter of that time. Ultras are too expensive to do nothing but soak damage, they *need* to acquire their value by killing enemy units, but they just can't atm, because stim marauders exist and ultras stop moving to attack, so the units ultras are supposed to counter just *don't* get countered by it.
That's why ultralisks are such throw units, because if they don't get their value back in damages, that's well over a minute of endgame economic blackout. At the pro level, over a minute of basically doing nothing is an instant loss. Ultralisks thusly are basically an instant loss, unless you're essentially a whole minute ahead of your opponent and have the metaphorical time to spare.
The buffs to speed were nice. The size reduction is *very* nice and what I consider to be the first step in the right direction, as that indirectly buffs the ultras ability to tank autoattack damage. But ultimately, ultralisks still *don't do anything* because their expenses just simply demand too much compared to what they're capable of. Make them able to attack while moving and that would solve this problem without needing to give them a dumb ability like burrow charge. Alternatively drop 50/50 cost off of them if we are *really* committed on ultras not being allowed to kill things.
Burrow charge
Holy shit what a Game, the real underdog story
Something what not everybody does realise (which makes the performance of Oliveira even greater) is that in the turining point of the whole tournament (which in my opinion was game 3 with Raynor, he had to fight with 0-2 on his back on the map, that during this tournament was devastating for terran in PvT, check the stats... amasing how he was able to adapt to Raynor and win against all odds...
Have you seen what happens in those Hatcheries? There is a whole lotta egg lov'in rub'in more so than a genie's lamp, and thats, (egg opens) Kazam!, another brood.
Top demais Winter
Great series!! Love the commentary.
LUV ur commentary!
It is impressive that Raynor managed to get to 2 - 0 against the best player in the world.
God it was so good from start to finish!!
There's a new sheriff in town!
More proof that Terran will always win against Zerg without cheese, glad to see it. Hope more people switch races and leave the bugs in the dirt.
The basket in the endzone baby
every terran been coping on the widowmines vs zerg but TIME showed that siege tanks has always been the king
The most epic come back ever! Crazy!
This whole tournament could be made into a Disney movie.
人皇登基的转折之战. always great commentary from winter.
UN FN REAL. WHAT A SERIES.
game2 on the ramp: Oliveria pressed 2 stim shots instead of 1. the difference between life and death.
18:45 best comment ever
I like how the seasoned players add a "wp" when they lose to the underdog. Maybe it's not that, but to me it shows a little recognition from their side.
Wow what a reverse sweep
1:07:00 peak playing for time casting there :)
Reynor: "rey" being latin for king, and "nor" referencing his Norwegian heritage
Thankssss OLIVEIRA for protect the humans!
oh wait there's the fu- FUUUUSION COOORREEE
Thanks for having a better HUD than ESL.
Reynor's production @49:46 is pretty committed :)
What a series and comments ❤
Winter dude please tell me what music plays when you announce the fusssion coree
Great commentary for the great games
