5:07 - Technically, the crimper with the indent on one side is only supposed to be used on bare crimp terminals; because, the indented part of the tool will compromise the insulation on the connector. The part with the half - moons on both sides is to be used on insulated terminals/splices. Otherwise, great instruction which includes all the steps for this repair. Thanks.

Excellent demonstration. I just had Sears service at my home and watch him done exactly the same thing. Fortunately I had a service contract so the repair cost me nothing. Unfortunately I waited 8 days for service and much of the food was lost due to defrosting and spoilage. I wish I had done some research right away and repaired the problem myself. You guys are great I’m wondering if my whirlpool model 1D5HHEXT00 a fridge I bought at ikea is defrost heater or timer .Im getting lots of moisture in fridge and think my fan is frozen ice maker works after I unplug fridge for day then starts again on start up
freezer temps increase to over 50 degrees for about twenty minutes or so causing frozen foods to thaw then refreeze when auto defrost shuts off. would this be a defrost thermostat problem or a temp sensor problem. master control panel has been replaced problem still occurs.
It might, but there could be other issues going on. Are you able to hear the compressor running, are the fans running? Have you looked at the evaporator coils inside the freezer to see if they have a nice even frost pattern on them?
I replaced the evaporator, the start relay and seems is the defrost timer, I looked for this thing nowhere to be found nor a board or the sort my model is whirlpool wrt519szdm02 any advice before I put out on trash day?
I have a KitchenAid ksc24c8eyp02 and the freezer is not freezing. This is a slightly newer model with the control panel on the outside of the freezer door. The freezer is cold like the refrigerator portion but even that is a tad warm (40F instead of 37F). Is the defrost thermostat the only thermostat? I have searched for parts and only find the defrost thermostat WPW10225581. Have replaced the starter relay, the fans are fine, the compressor tests out ok, and the defrost coils are not built up with frost. Getting frustrated...
Does leaving a freezer door open burn this out? It started frosting up after the door was left open overnight slightly it comes on and everything but no cool air to fridge.
Omar Mendez The defrost thermostat is to limit how warm it gets in the freezer while defrosting. I would check the cold control if its stuck it could cause everything to freeze.

I got the same replacement colors but I just did the opposite. Black to pink and red to brown. I tried to connect the same wires that came out of the connector. Did your way work? I still have time to change mine if your way worked.
My Whirpool freezer coils keep frosting over causing the fridge side to warm up. For the last few months we’ve been opening up the back to the coils, taking a hair dryer to thaw out the frost and putting it back together which ends up fixing the issue with the fridge warming up. I have a KitchenAid KSSC48FMS00. The frig part is not cooling, but the freezer works perfectly. What would cause this to happen? I unplugged a few times, also cleaned the condenser coil on top of the frig Grille. Not able to find the issue.
Have you checked the air baffle to make sure that it is opening and closing like it should be? It sounds as if you could be having an air flow problem.
@@appliancepartspros Yes, I opened checked the airbaffle between freezer and frig. It does open. Also I observed, the frig part is slowly cooling when freezer temp is raised. Meaning the more cool the freezer, the warmer the frig. Strange..
liverdelove Some manufacturers supply it and some do not you can always add it. The only really waterproof connectors they use are on the heating element, which is actually on the side or bottom of the evaporator. Any water that will be in the freezer will be coming off the evaporator and going out the drain, the connectors above it are just normal connectors.

My maytag frige model MTB2191ARW the defrost thermostat limit switch was discontinued by the manufacturer. Can I use another defrost thermostat or do they make an aftermarket thermostat?

Yes they have continuity when cold and no continuity when warm. The is usually a L number on the side to indicate when it opens, like L65. It should open right around that temperature.

Great video! How can I tell if the problem is the Thermostat or if its the Heater Element? Mine was frozen over and not defrosting. I took it apart and let it defrost and when I plugged it back in a short time later it started to make a noise as if something was trying to come on and it would stop the noise about 10 seconds later only to do it over and over about every minute or so, it eventually froze over again. That all depends on the ice buildup. It could be a few and upwards to a whole day. Without knowing the model number, the next steps would be to test the defrost heater for proper resistance and the defrost thermostat for continuity.

If you are testing the heater for ohms it should read anywhere from 30 to 40 ohms give or take a little bit. If you don't get that reading then the heater has failed and you would be needing to replace that heater.

So i have an Amana side by side,i had the defrost element replaced and the tech choose a Samsung unit,it doesn't defrost sadly,i reckon the wattage is different, it gets power as it will hiss upon splashing but my old element used to glow red on defrost this doesn't,he reckons it's the thermostat and wants another hours callout! gregsir You can go to our site and enter the appliance model number to view the parts breakdown and see what defrost heater is called for. If the defrost thermostat has failed in a open circuit the heater would not get power, if it failed with the contacts fused together in a closed circuit the heater would be on during the whole defrost cycle. The defrost thermostat is a safety thermostat that turns the heater of and on during the defrost cycle so it does not over heat the freezer and defrost the food.
How do I know this is what I need? My freezer is not freezing. I’ve cleaned the coils and the back. It’s got frost built up against the back on the middle rack. It’s basically just a giant fridge no freezer. Stays cold but not cold enough to freeze. Is this the part that I need??

Is a Thermistor same as that thermostat? does the same work? I believe my fridge does not have that thermostat and uses a king of sensor, I think it is a thermistor but I don't know if is the same thing. Anyone?

I wish my Whirpool came with screws all around. It only has screws on the bottom the rest snap on the side which tend to fall out leaving gaps once you reassemble, poor design.
There are videos on here that show you how to test this part. Hell of a thing to replace a part thinking it was bad. Only to find out your refrigerator still does not work. Why, because you replaced a part that was working. But then if you keep replacing parts sooner or later you might stumble across the bad part.

FYI... There is no polarity on a thermastat, so just hook it up and it should work.

What about shrink wrap on the butt connections to prevent moisture from entering?

How to know the defrost thermostat is not working
On some ref. the defrost thermostat is mounted on the line in of the evaporator and on some on the line out of the evaporator, any difference?
hondagoal Mounting places vary from model to model. Just mount the new one where the old one was mounted and you should be ok.

I'm sorry, the manufacturer doesn't recommend disconnecting the defrost heater, it can cause the unit to not run properly.

If you can please provide your model number of the fridge we can look and see what the proper reading should be for the heater.

What does a bad thermostat do.
I wish my Whirpool came with screws all around. It only has screws on the bottom the rest snap on the side which tend to fall out leaving gaps once you reassemble, poor design.

There are videos on here that show you how to test this part. Hell of a thing to replace a part thinking it was bad. Only to find out your refrigerator still does not work. Why, because you replaced a part that was working. But then if you keep replacing parts sooner or later you might stumble across the bad part.
That's true, William. Some parts can be tested before you go through the trouble of replacing them. Thanks for that tip.
