Thank you so much for this tutorial the appliance shop told me it needed new door gaskets, $250 later the problem still existed. Thanks to Covid-19 we were unable to get a new one so I came to UA-cam found you and did exactly what you showed me with help from my wife and now we’re $1,978.57 richer for having not bought a new one. The drain hole in the upper pan and the trap in the clear tub at the bottom we’re plugged we cleaned both out all the way to the lower pan and added a piece of plastic like you suggested to direct the water into the little catch pan. Once again we send you a heart felt thank you!
I found your video after trying to unclog the hole from the freezer drip pan. Thanks so much for sharing your experience & knowledge!! I feel more confident trying to investigate this a little further with your explanation & tutorial💪🏻🙏🏻👌🏻
Thankyou so much for this I watched your video and that's exactly what problem I'm having with my fridge. Because of everything we buy or need fixed getting so outrageous these past few years I can't afford to call a repairman out or else I'll be living on the streets, the information you shared helped me fix my fridge and save my floor from rotting out. Thankyou Sir for taking the time to share this 🙏🏻✌️
Great video! After chasing my leak for a year and a half, wiping the water build up every couple of days, the card trick was the fix that worked! I used an old hotel key and it was done! It's been a week now, and not one drop of water! Thanks again!

Our fridge is a different model but the same principle applies. On ours it was totally solid and all blocked with an inch of ice, we ended up just emptying the entire fridge, cramming everything into the second fridge for the night, unplugging the fridge for the night, and letting it all thaw. Then on the inside of the fridge by the drainage hole we found it was plugged with gunk and debris. Cleaned everything real nice and should be good now! Thanks for the upload, it helped me know what to look for.
Praise god I have been all over internet looking for this video this is exactly the way my refrigerator is. I will pull it back out and pray I find the problem.
Thank you so much for this video! I just sent you a small donation. I have a Magic Chef brand fridge and this was exactly my problem. I wish I found your video sooner as I've emptied my fridge and tried to fix this a couple of times now over the past 5 months. Your plastic card idea was genius and took me only 5 minutes!
You are Amazing!!! My husband is not handy. I was dreading taking this thing apart looking for a clog. I saw your video and decided to try the easy solution first. Grabbed an old plastic rewards card and voila!!! It worked!!! You, sir, are the bomb!! Thank you.
I've had this same problem for years, and this video is the first explanation I've found anywhere that makes any sense, thank you! I always assumed the water collecting at the bottom was condensation, even though the weatherstripping on the door seemed fine and cleaning it didn't help. It never occurred to me that the moisture was coming from the freezer! I've been using a transfer pump / syringe to collect and remove the water every few weeks (which is a huge improvement over my previous sponge method), which isn't that difficult, but it would be great to solve the problem completely. I look forward to checking for a clogged drain or that same design flaw. I need to wait until my fridge is a bit more empty so I have room to work, but I'm excited to try this soon..
Perfect! Water has a very high surface tension and wants to stay together in droplets. It can be seen by pouring a little water on the driveway from a drinking glass. It heads up with rounded edges. If you pour vinegar or rubbing alcohol (Isopropyl) it quickly spreads out on the surface. Adding the plastic card, gives it a hard edge to drip from. Look under your windows outside on the stoop, and they have a 1/4” cut near the edge. This keeps the water from traveling up toward. This is the drip edge. This is a great video.
Great job...I've found that design flaws are a major cause to various failures on different equipment. It's great to be able to come up with simple and inexpensive fixes.
Thanks for this great step by step video. Found my issue in the upper panel drain as you had described. Very nice to avoid a service call for something like that!
Thank you, thank you 🙏, this is the problem that I am having with my refrigerator, y was thinking was time to buy a new one, but seeing your Vidio I have to call my son to come and fix it.. thank you again, problem solve.
Thank you. When I followed your instructions I found the drip channel clogged with black gunk. I installed a card behind the defrost chute as you showed just in case.
Thank you so much!! My fridge is 20 years old and this is my first leak inside. Just waiting on a defrost cycle to see if it worked! I have no doubts it did! Sincerely appreciate videos like yours!!!

I have been trying to fix this problem for months and it was not until I saw your video that I found the real problem. The outlet at the back of the fridge inside was clogged up. After cleaning the little drain tray and flushing the outlet, it seems to have solved the problem. Thanks for the helpful video.
Great vid! My tray was frozen solid... letting it thaw now and that should do the trick . I must have a version after this one because it has a drip guide built in.
Dude !!! Thank you been having this issue with my fridge for months, gonna take it apart in the next couple of days to check it out. My unit is a Frigidaire but has the same issues. Thanks for the info !!!

Greatl video thank you! It is as if all refrigerators are made to fail like this. If only there was a brand that made refrigerators that don't get these issues.
I have another question, the hole aka drain tube opeing at 1:02, was that covered by the piece you removed. my fridge an Amana 20yrs old has been having defrost issues and I have a similar holw 3/4 of way down back fridge wall. my unit is fridge top freezer bottom. and it isnt covered by anything. I almost recall neverseeing it exposed before during cleaning and think it may have had a plastic cover that fell off or was wiped off during a prev cleaning and that could be causing the ice build up in freezer
If your refrigerator has the freezer on the bottom, the drain hole should be all the way down on the bottom, as well, under the Evaporator Coils. To get to it, you'll need to remove everything from the freezer, including the back plastic wall.
The defrost usually happens every 8-10 hours. The compressor and fans will stop, and you may be able to hear sizzling sounds of water dripping on the hot defrost heater. You can also start the defrost manually on a basic refrigerator like this... ua-cam.com/video/PMzHrsNyeOA/v-deo.html
Thanks...ill try t it. I've been putting paper towels down around the bottom of the crisper so for a couple weeks now to sop up the water. Hope this works!
It's called something like steel wire rope, and it's sold in large reels cut-to-order. It's best to go there and see for yourself how flexible different diameters are before you buy it.
thanks very much for this video. I have the same model and your video helped me disassemble the fridge panel and clean the drainage hose. Do you know if there is a safety switch that triggers a shut-off of the defrost when that hose is clogged?
Glad it helped! Regarding the Safety Switch, there is just one for the defrost heater if it gets too hot... but nothing for the water overflow like in dishwashers.
Clever fix,my freezer drain ices over at the bottom of the interior floor, requires pulling off drain hose from bottom of interior freezer to the drain pan and running a screwdriver up to the interior floor drain pipe to break up the ice clog inside the pipe. Tried putting hot water over drain hole but that does not defrost drain hole pipe
Great great great!! I have the exact same model, you saved me a technician visit :-) clear explanations, great camera work :-) BTW I had a different problem, but good to know about the credit card trick!
Thanks for your video. Could you explain how you removed the panel? I have the same type of panel. I loosened 2 nut screws on each width side of the panel. It doesn’t seem to come loose. What am I missing?
It's been a while, so I don't remember everything. There might be another screw or two. If you don't see anything, there might be a plastic shield covering the screw hole. Peel off that shield with a flathead screwdriver.
Hello, I just have a question, do you know the name of the part that is next to the water deposit (0:57), I mean the foam, I've been looking for it but I don't know how its called
@YourSelf - for the refrigerator (same model I have) can it be forced into Defrost mode? Thanks! All done - just waiting for a defrost cycle or two to see if it's fixed. We took off the large plastic piece from the top of the refrigerator to find the drain tube (coming out of the reservoir) had some crud in it, but it could drain a little. There was no water in the reservoir which surprised me. Also, since it was accessible we slid a used up gift card as YourSelf did and to be sure the water drains where it's supposed to. TBD!
Yes, you can force the timer into the defrost. (I may make a video about it) When you look up, the control panel has what looks like a screw. If you turn it with a screwdriver clockwise until you hear a click and the compressor stops, that's the defrost time.
I used a regular Phillips-head screwdriver, but your screws could be different. If you don't see any crews at all, they might be covered by rubber/plastic plugs which you can pill off.
Sir i checked the clogs in the drain pipe and pour water in it freely drained into the basin but the water remains leaked outside the freezer... Problem even persists
I think I have the exact same refrigerator. If it works fine for years and then starts leaking, it can't be a design flaw, can it? Also do I need to remove the control panel to put a plastic card in?
I think with age, the ceiling becomes saggy for some reason, and the barrier disappears. A plastic card renews this barrier. But it would probably be very difficult to insert the card without removing the control panel.
Hi. I experience another problem. Excuse me my english, i'm dutchspeaking. For some time I noticed that the two big compartments below didn't sit right till it reached the point where the door could not close easily. But it got worse and i noticed that the compartments were sticking out too much. So i took them out and noticed that the walls behind were swollen. Feels like there is water inside the body. Now my fridge closes perfect, but how do I get the built up water out from behinde the wall, si I can put the compartments back in. Thanks for you help.
If it's an accumulation of water inside the wall, I'm not sure it can be removed. But if it's a layer of frost, try defrosting your refrigerator at least for 24 hours with open doors. See if that helps.
If the refrigerator is properly wired, a little water under the fridge should not cause any shortage problems. That being said, water under any electrical appliance could be dangerous, so try to fix it asap.
You can use warm/hot water to melt the ice (unplug your refrigerator first) and make sure all that defrost water drains well through the tube on the back.
Heyo, I’m having a similar issue with my fridge as well. But I’m unable to figure a solution like how you did in the last few minutes of the video. My fridge model is samsung ff c 394l rt39k5458sl real ssl. Would be ever grateful if you share your view. Thank you.

If your refrigerator has the freezer on the bottom, the drain hole should be all the way down on the bottom, as well, under the Evaporator Coils. To get to it, you'll need to remove everything from the freezer, including the back plastic wall.
Thank you for this wonderful clear, concise video. Great help and beautifully done in ALL respects!!!

thanks very much for this video. I have the same model and your video helped me disassemble the fridge panel and clean the drainage hose. Do you know if there is a safety switch that triggers a shut-off of the defrost when that hose is clogged?

Informative thanks ❤

First thing to do is totally defrost fridge. My fridge freezer took overnight. All the drainage gunk came out into the drip tray, and now it is fixed.
Thank you this video was helpful to me!

If there is ponding water under your refrigerator will it cause a shortage to your refrigerator? What say you?
If the refrigerator is properly wired, a little water under the fridge should not cause any shortage problems. That being said, water under any electrical appliance could be dangerous, so try to fix it asap.
thanks

Can i use hot water to help melt away the ice build up
You can use warm/hot water to melt the ice (unplug your refrigerator first) and make sure all that defrost water drains well through the tube on the back.
Very helpful, thanks man
Glad it helped
what is the flexible wire that you are using. thanks.
I got it a loooong time ago from a local hardware store (Home Depot), but I'm not sure what is a proper name for this braided metal cable
