    Another tip that helps:
    Before you go to any destination with low sec in between, always take a fast or cloaky ship (pref cloaky) and go to the low sec system and make 500km bookmarks directly above (or below) the gates. That way when you take the ship you want, you can avoid all smart bombs. I have bookmarks like that in that exact system.

    95% of smart bombers are in battleships. The classic smart bombers are usually Praxis and Machariels at least that I see frequently so your suspicions were right here. Nice thought process and awareness sir!

    If I encounter a choke point like the one described, I'll dock up in the high sec system just prior to the choke point. If I'm in a transport, I'll often carry a shuttle. If not, I'll buy one. They're cheap, and they align in less than two seconds.
    I'll scout the gates in the choke point looking for gate camps. If either gate is camped, I'll dock up on the other side of the choke point, log out, and check again later. Even in a place as frequently camped as Ahbazon, I usually find my way through before too long. If you are like most players, you have an alt on your account. Log into an alt and do something productive, like mining, or do whatever it is you do to be productive that doesn't involve getting ganked.
    There is no need to rush trying to run a camped gate. Discretion, as they say, is the better part of valor, and this technique will work in Null Sec as well, since shuttles are immune to warp bubbles. If I am traversing risky territory, I also try to be in a clean clone.

    This is hardcore mode a faster version is.
    1. Check dotlan maps for kills and jumps in the system.
    2. Check zkillboard for the system.
    3. Any kills done that day check the killmail for the killers.
    4. Check the losses of the killer and see what he uses smartbomb or weapons.
    5. Make decision if to go around or through and live with your choice.
    But I like the vid good for nullsec aswell maybe do part 2 avoid highsec ganks.

      6 Avoid shield buffer modules as you get locked quicker
      7 Have a prop mod fitted for a chance of burning back to gate if you jump into something hopeless.

    When on grid, you can just "look at" the gate or anyone to see how they're placed around the gate and determine an angle of approach to dodge the smartbomb area if there's any.
    With multiples small ship and shuttle wreck on grid + several BS it's most likelly that they are SB. You can even check the turret hardpoint if you look at the ships hull.
    You can use a random/alpha alt that stay in the system for the unique purpose of scouting., dotlan/Zkb or in game stats on the map can be usefull too.
    If you plan use the system regularly, take the time to make proper ping around the gate, at least 1 out of grid (~18K km+) and several around the gates.
    Btw, that don't immunize you of being unable to cloak on your inbound gate due to wreck/drone/corpse (biomass)/else around the gate.

    The angle of attack for smart bombers are quite narrow since they need to be 10km off the gate to activate them. As long as you are off by an angle of 20 degrees of the gate to gate angle I consider it safe. I use the same rule to get around drag/stop bubbles in null sec with success as well (not on gate bubbles ofc).

    Very useful, nice tips, especially regarding the idea of approaching a gate from behind. I wander all the time through low sec in a 1.79 sec Sunesis and never got caught, not by bombs, not by ultralockers, not in Abhazon. I died 2 times being locked at NPC stations and panicking. But not at the gates, even warping straight to them or from them.

      @reddog418 2 роки тому

      No, this is bullshit. You cannot lock anyone landing on a gate. The session change is immediate. The only time you might get screwed is for traffic control, in which case the gate will not accept your session change and you die.

    • @EVEILOnline
      @EVEILOnline 2 роки тому

      @@reddog418 I didn't say landing on a gate, I said jumping in. And even if you did warp to gate at 0, there is a (small) chance you land outside of jump range allowing people to lock you once you start to approach gate

    This just happened to me. When I warped away from the entrance gate I figured I was OK. Coming up on the exit gate I rolled up into a smart bomb and was killed. I never thought about coming up to the exit gate from a different angle, or the other side. I think I will cloak up and try dropping some markers next time I am in there. Thanks for the tip!!

    I went Covert Ops (Cloaking) a long, long time ago. Especially a Viator is great for moving stuff around. And while cargo space is limited, when you have a bunch of alts that can also fly it, you can run them all at the same time (instead of one large cargo hauler).
    I recently lost a Occator (a half billion fit) at a low-sec gate camp, purely due to not knowing the current functions and abilities of warp scramblers and anti-warp modules (have been running cloaky ships for years). And went right back to my Viator fleet. As I run a couple of different fits, which all have different warp speeds, they really need to guess when my cloaky ship arrives at gate to bomb me. To date no one had tried to do that (as far as I have noticed).

    • @szpoti
      @szpoti 3 роки тому

      Nothing beats the Viator. It's practically uncatchable, even in bubbles, unless you jump into a camp that has been there for hours with cans and drones lying all around. But then, it's your own fault for not having checked dotlan and Eve Gatecamp Checker, or using a dummy scout (requires another Omega account, though).

    Interesting idea but I personally would just auto pilot the 45 jumps and stick on Netflix for half an hour 'job done'

    • @TheodoreIchabod
      @TheodoreIchabod 2 роки тому +2

      If you are gonna autopilot, as there are often suicide ganks in the last system or two on that route I would personally manually pilot to a station en route, bookmark it, and do the same on the way back. Then you can manually jump a few systems then stick on autopilot to the station near your destination, then when you get back (or hear Aura tell you 'Waypoint Reached' then you can undock and fly the last few jumps manually. Way safer.

    I don't do trade but if i wanted to do that trip id setup a safe spot behind the gate on both sides so you sort of have your own personal celestial to bounce off
    You could even setup points directly infront of the entry point of each gate for instant warp off spots sort of like old jita instant undock safe spots

    So... Pod warps in and doesn't get blatted.. you've jumped in, with out scout and you're worrying about not warping to gate? Also, you've come off the high sec gate alignment, which the smart bombers would be aligned.
    There's no drag bubbles. it's low sec...
    Just get it done
    wow
    pro-tip... use a cloaked ship, warp to a planet out of alignment with the gate and go.. sorted

    THIS IS A LOWSEC GATE. There is no server tick on landing on a gate. You just take the gate when you land. The warp end to session change is instant. The only time you need to avoid a gate camp (in lowsec) is from gate cloak, e.g. you load and suddenly you're surrounded (and even then, if you can perform an action in under 1 second, like warping or cloaking, you are invincible). This is a dumb video and everything you did here was completely unnecessary and it's shocking how little people understand the underlying networking behind this game.

    • @strange_Net
      @strange_Net  2 роки тому

      Im confused as to what it is you are saying here?

    • @reddog418
      @reddog418 2 роки тому

      @@strange_Net I'm saying you didn't need to approach the camped gate in any special way. Once you land on the gate from warp, you instantly session change. You are invulnerable. No one can lock you. Scenario: You are 1000km from the gate being camped by 100 people. You use the "jump" button. Your warp drive spins up. You warp. You land on the gate. You exit warp. Your character automatically activates the gate and begins the session change. There is no vulnerability. You cannot be targeted. This is unlike "docking" to a station where you may land outside of the docking ring and your ship has to fly a little (which is why people make instadock bookmarks). Stargates do not have this problem (small note: freighters have a VERY small chance of doing this, but it's rare and inconsequential because there's no way they can lock and kill you in that tiny window). You additionally don't have to worry about smart bombs because they cannot be activated in the proximity of a stargate.
