- Did you know this church policy indirectly keeps children safe? We didn’t until we talked with Jennifer Roach!
What other policies or practices can you think of with unintended positive effects?
This is hardly effecetive bc abusers get pardoned when they confess to their bishop. They rarely get reported to the police bc of priest penitent privelege. They get callings after confessing or if a new bishop is called he may not know the abusers history. Many churches do background checks for callings. This church does not.
You have no data to back that up. You just have isolated incidents you heard in the news and you think that's the way it is everywhere.
@@halodisciple8459There is no data available. What’s obvious is that there are more hush cases than cases of church clergy reporting abusers. Floodlit has done thorough research on this and I recommend checking them out. Btw I dont look at the news I look at source material like court records and police reports. You’ll be suprised at what you uncover
My father was a Bishop here in Florida, and I can assure you, he never swept anything under the rug. He is a mandatory reporter.
@@TroySchoonoverI would hope all bishops ignore priest penitent privilege and the church’s hotline like your father does
@@halodisciple8459The problem is that it happens in the first place. Other church’s don’t have the issues I stated bc they do background checks and mandated reported. This isn’t hard. Check out floodlit’s database.
In theory. But when the members of that ward protect the abuser because they are in a position of authority, this point is lost. It has happened many, many times when the bishop sweeps it under the rug and allows it to continue.
Yeah ok
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiifht.
I honestly do not think it happens many many times . Yes it can happen anywhere but honestly the LDS church is very safe . And measures have been placed to make it e en safer
I never thought of award boundaries like that. When you think about it it is a good protection . Thanks for pointing that out .
@lindamartinez7006 it happens a lot but the church uses it's resources to silence victims in court, bishops don't report abuse, etc. It is seldom actually dealt with and instead shushed. There are resources out there that have numerous accounts available to learn about and how the church failed to protect victims.
Neighborhood Watch used to be a good thing.
Except things still happen and they just cover it up
LDS church has highest abuse rates of any church
My church does background checks. You can't work with kids without it. We also require reporting of abuse. I'm a recent case in Bisbee, AZ, a LDS lawyer argued that not only did the bishop have the right to not report an abuser but so did the ward clerk. That allowed the abuser to continue abusing all of his children for years. How does that protect children?
The church I go to does background checks as well, especially if your in the children's program. The minister, the custodian etc., And if you want to join it takes time, interviews and communication with your previous church, and voted in or denied by the members, it usually takes several months. And they check the police predator website as well. Women andd Children's safety is priority .
And if your a new candidate for membership and want to be baptized you have to take Bible studies with a church member or the minister for 12 lessons. Not LDS, but other churches are careful too.
Then the Arizona legislature needs to update the law. Clergy-penitent privilege is a very old legal concept with different application across jurisdictions. Take it up with the State government if you disagree. The Church doesn't create law.
Background checks are a false sense of security. They don’t do what you think they do.
@@katewhitehouse4836but most it all but most churches preachers are the abusers .
The problem with that is the kids aren't protected within their ward boundaries. Abusers don't just live outside the boundaries of your ward.
This is amazing, and I love it!
Yeah but if someone in the ward is doing something in the ward you won't be told because that's gossip. You can tell the bishop but if it's a guy 50/50 he keeps it in the boys club because he doesn't want the problem, doesn't want to have a problem ward, doesn't want people to know his 'discernment' didn't catch it, extra. If you tell headquarters they will just get you with their lawyers who gaslight you or pay you off if they're forced to. There are class action suits about church abuse! 🤮
you have forgotten- That people get them checked to someone getting a call is announced her in sacrament
Ummm, ive never seen them be checked...
hat kind if church has "ward boundaries?"
- serious question. curious. I grew up United methodist
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Members don't shop around for the congregation of their choice, you attend the congregation assigned to your area. Basically always the congregation closest to your house.
@@kylebecker9673 Thanks for answering my question.

It's amazing how the Lord has setup his church!
I don't necessarily agree with this. After all how many times on the news have neighbors said they "never would have guess" this/that person was XYZ.
Nobody will tell me where I go to worship...Thank goodness I live in an area where I have a choice
Stay there.
Good for you
Wow
Someone tell the anti Mormons
The "anti-mormons" are actively learning about the wrongs in the church and fighting to change them so the organization has a better environment. Active members see a short on UA-cam and say to themselves all is well in Zion and do nothing.
@@nello1591exactly. The church now does mandated background checks on callings in the UK bc people over there protested for it. The church can change for the better if the members actually have a desire to see it be better
This lady is sketchy - creepy. The HOA of church. No thank you
😂
Why are you a creep or something? Why else would you be afraid of this lady?
Did you watch the whole interview?
Beautifully explains why privacy is over rated and the government should also know everything about each of us and follow us wherever we live, work, etc.
