- This 1993 interview with trumpet legend Al Hirt was right after he had come back from a severe health scare that forced him to take a long break from performing. His heath issues continued for the the next 6 years before died in 1999 of liver failure. He was in great spirits in this interview, clearly excited about being back. This show was lost and had not been seen until now since 1994.

I TRULY Enjoyed this Interview..Al was so comfortable and ready to answer all the question thrown at him.....I loved the part when he spoke about his dads influence in ensuring he practiced when he was younger discipline is key when learning an instrument. to me Al Hirt will always be the Greatest Trumpeter that ever Lived!
Thanks for this. I’ve been an Al Hirt fan since Java came out in ‘64. “The greatest horn in the world.” Master technician and soulful.
Al Hirt was the greatest trumpet player of them all

Al was a true treasure !
God bless !
Al Hirt was one of the greatest trumpet players ever and a nice man.
Thank you for finding and posting this great interview with Al. Loved the rare performance clips of him in his prime too. That man could play anything just like he said. Not bragging, like he said...just a fact. I never got to see him live but he lives on in his great recordings and in the clips that have found their way to youtube!
Just found out that im related to this legend, rest good Al.
