Fun Quaker story: my grandfather's family (Gifford) came over early on in Colonial Massachusetts, and they were Quakers who had left England. At that time, Massachusetts was a strictly Puritan colony. You had to be registered members of the Puritan church to be considered full citizens. So one many times great grandfather of mine got in trouble with the Massachusetts law for "fornication outside of marriage". He had remarried in the colony, as his wife had passed on the voyage over. *But* their marriage in the Society was not recognized by Puritan law. Thus he was fined. The family ended up moving out and being one of the founding families of New Jersey before my branch left for Kentucky post-Revolution and lost the Quaker religion somewhere around then (or before as several of them fought in the Revolution). My great-grandmother moved to the county I grew up in back in Pennsylvania with her kids when her husband died - her family was a founding family there. The story about the family being Quakers originally is hilarious to anyone who know them - my grandfather and his five brothers were known as partiers, drinkers, wild boys. And they all fought in WWII.

Great video! I am determined to finish American Flag Sampler by Kooler Design Studio by the end of June. Loved all the patriotic stitches! Nothing like a big ole flag for some great stitching! I am finding I prefer to stitch on Lugana or linen these days. Happy stitching!❤

Thank you for the tutorial on Quaker samplers. My husband grew up going to Quaker meeting with his family, and I love to stitch Quaker motifs. It's so rewarding to stitch patterns that have such a rich history behind them.
I love all the history behind the reproduction designs and samplers as well! I enjoyed reading more about the Quakers and had not realized they established so many schools across the country. From what I've read it looks like the schools were at least sometimes attended by non-Quakers as well as Quakers, so they must have been very good schools.
Keep those stories coming! Congratulations on your anniversary. My husband and I just celebrated 49! Yikes, how are we this old. Anyway thanks for keeping me company while I stitch. I am using more 28 count linen lately, with older eyes.
Hi Valerie. Happy anniversary to you guys too. I know time goes by so fast. We looked at our wedding pictures and Ike in his blue ruffles shirt and I and my long hair. Oh my we looked so young. Well I guess we were so how did we get to 73 already and both with gray hair. Oh well so many memories. You both take care. ❤😊

Yes, it is pretty, but it will probably take me some time to find a square frame for it. I like to shop thrift stores, so it's hit or miss, and I don't have the talent to cut them to size. Thank you & Roberta for taking the time to do flosstube videos, always enjoy everything you share. ❤

It was so interesting to hear about the Quaker samplers and to see the pictures of the globes. I'm trying to gather most of my patriotic flag stitches together as well. I started Always Remember by Plum Street Samplers last year and picked it up again just before Memorial Day.
Thank you Roberta for sharing about the Quakers, the Quaker style samplers, and pictures from your beautiful books. It was so interesting to hear about. The Study in Blue round box finish is just gorgeous, love seeing that come together. Linnie, your Grand Olde Flags in that cute strawberry basket are so sweet, really nicely done. I just finished stitching a Posy Collection Historic piece called Betsy Ross House. On a trip to Philadelphia for a wedding two years ago, we visited many of the historical sites in the city, and my husband bought it for me in the gift shop and hid it away until Christmas. I didn't get around to it last year, and was determined to have it finished for this summer. The designer is Posy Lough and she takes a lot of American history and uses them in her designs. I plan to stitch Patriotic and some Christmas through the summer months.

Happy Anniversary Linnie! I’m glad Ike is almost done with the doctor. Speaking of early dinners, my daughter and SIL took me out to a winery for dinner for my birthday. She apologized for only being able to get a reservation at 5:30. It was Memorial Day weekend and she lives in a tourist spot because of living close to wine country. I told her I didn’t care. I’m old and early is just fine with me. Lol I loved hearing about the Quaker samplers. Those handmade globes were amazing. So beautiful. I’m stitching Primrose Patriotic Quaker now. The first one I stitched was the Valentine one. I made a mistake somewhere in the middle because when I got to the border on the right I realized I had messed up. So I made up something that worked. The Primrose Quakers look easy but in reality I realized I had to be very careful with the counting. Spring Quaker turned out fine. Lesson learned. I've heard that about the Primrose Quaker pieces. Probably in general those medallion motifs are pretty exacting.
