I doubt it, there's a number of things about Kraid that break if you go there with items you're not supposed to have. I was pretty sure when I started exploring this that power bombs wouldn't actually work in his belly, and was actually really surprised the morph ball launcher even worked. Other things I've noticed are that the little round projectiles that bounce around (they look like pretzel chunks to me for some reason -- Metroid Bread???) are one of the few things in the game that just ignore screw attack damage altogether. In phase 2 he has two behavior modes I call "bottom" and "top" for whether he does the belly stuff or the cycle with his arms and claws. The trigger for switching the AI script between the two is touching the blue magnet to activate top mode, and touching the floor to activate bottom mode. Using space jump to stay in the air you can get up or down without touching the triggers and he'll be in the wrong mode and not using his attacks. That's not even counting using the backdoor with gravity suit and just hanging out in the lava. 😎

There are illustrations that You can unlock during the game that show the backstory of Metroid Dread. In one of them, We see Raven Beak's Mawkin warriors swarming over a defeated Kraid. Presumably this scene took place on Zebes shortly before it self destructed.
Usually, waiting for a simple answer to a simple question that lies at the end of a long video, makes my blood boil. But this on the contrary was really fun and humorous. Nice : )
To be honest I was kind of glad they patched out invulnerability, because it felt a little TOO good, almost like cheating. The new tech is powerful, but has some limitations you have to work around, and takes a bit of practice to master the skill so it feels lot less cheap to me, but YMMV.
Great video, production value made me think I stumbled on a well established channel for a second. Keep it up! Sucks that Kraid wasn't even coded to deal with Power bombs, but given that they gave him unique stuff for Bomb and Flash Shift already, I'm fine with it. I guess it's possible to skip almost any ability other than Morph Ball and Speed Booster in this game with skew. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Oh, thanks, that means a lot! Just started out and had posted a few random videos, but decided to try making something with some more meat to it. Haven't really published anything for public viewing before so I wasn't sure how it would turn out. As for what you can skip, it kind of depends what you're trying to do. The game does have fairly robust out-of-bounds detection that will just kill you if you're too far outside where you're supposed to be, so no falling through the walls like in SR. It's broken but not completely. Some places you can just barely get through, but in a lot of them grapple beam is the key because for whatever reason they coded it to disable the OOB killer while grapple beam is out; so it buys you a little time for stuff like sinks and door clips. It also doesn't check during room transitions even though you can move during them, which helps you get past stuff like door covers. In general late game items are easier to skip than early ones, just because you have a lot more options. I don't think there's any known route that lets you skip spider magnet, because of a certain spot in Cataris that's a hard requirement. Some things don't have a way around even with clips -- you need wave beam if you want to fight Raven Beak because there's only a narrow path to the elevator and no viable clips with the tech we have to get past the door cover. But you CAN complete the game without it because it's possible to sink through the floor after power bombs and get down to RBX, triggering the escape (you absolutely need power bombs in the escape if you skip RB, since you don't have hyper beam or the metroid suit).
That said, my two favorite skips are QR skip and plasma skip. Even though the game doesn't recognize it and the ending cutscene still plays out like normal, it's very satisfying for narrative reasons to finish the game without: (SPOILER ALERT!!!) 1. Quiet Robe getting shot 2. The X being released from Elun 3. Ice or Wave EMMIs being reactivated Aside from the accomplishment of not falling into Raven Beak's traps, it makes the planet blowing up for no apparent reason super funny.
Oh, absolutely. That's why I mentioned it even with the tongue in cheek comment. I kind of doubt I would have even bought Dread when it came out if not for AM2R. After that I played Zero & Fusion, then gave Super another shot and completed it.
It's gotten really crazy in the last 3-4 months or so. as someone whose done min items dread mode, seeing you get grapple beam to avoid bomb skip and using a shinespark to avoid a very obnoxious wall clip before the shinespark tutorial room hurts my soul… i had no idea that was even possible
Out of all of this, I like how there's just an X parasite Chozo Warrior right in the power bomb room when no X are supposed to be free, otherwise they'd overrun the planet.
Escue is there in Ferenia also, Core-X and all when you kill it. Same with Z-57 if you freeze ZDR without releasing the X. And of course the Raven Beak X cutscene plays out as normal even if you skip plasma beam. I'm a little sad that quiet robe still gets X-ified even if you never talk to him. I think only reason Golzuna can't be fought is its unique spawning method where a seemingly normal enemy's X reforms into it, but when you kill that enemy without the X being released it just dies instead.
Havent watched, but looking at comments has me say this. No, Kraid is not programmed to take damage from PBs. Even Cross Bombs dont work in its stomach; only normal bombs. The cannon, however, is a cutscene trigger during phase 2. So a very bad idea to use it if you dont have bombs.

This game came out not too long ago. I know there’s all kinds of stuff that can be done that just haven’t been discovered. Great video! You are not really softlocked if you loose skew after picking up screw attack. You can charge speedboost in the top left of the room and do the bomuhey setup with a shine sink like you would do in the plasma skip route during frozen artaria and then reload from checkpoint. But who would do a complicated backup like this anyway? :) I also got scared at 12:07 when I saw the bottom drone spawn in, must have been a tense moment.
Oh right, that's a good idea. I even knew you could charge one up there because I experimented a while back with doing an ADC to get down to to the bottom exit to see how it compared to the WBJ for speed. I tend to forget you can get bomuhey while clipping because the timing is so tight so I rarely even try. Supposedly if you hold free aim while grappling it extends the time window but I haven't managed to pull that off. The bottom drone didn't really worry me, I've done that clip enough times to know it would be fine -- it's when the middle one starts to spawn in that I cringe. 😉 Tense is fighting Red Chozo warrior while trying not to lose skew just in case I screw up and die (did actually manage to keep it the whole fight while recording). It's possible to set it up again in the drone room, have done it before, but it's kind of a pain because of the long platform. That and I need to learn the spark strat to shorten phase 1.
Sometimes it's the journey that's the important part, just to prove we can. But don't worry, it is actually possible to complete the game from this point! I've successfully beaten Raven Beak and escaped without ever collecting morph ball bombs.
If I had known about that sequence break in dread I might not have burned out on my dread run at the final boss. Edit: I'm talking about the normal instakill on kraid's second stage
I found this out while doing a rando run. I haven't tried... But I wonder if you can charge a power bomb prior to the morphball launcher, and if that would work. I doubt it, though. I'm certain that due to how far in the game you get power bombs, they never expected people to break the game in these unintended ways to sequence break. Some sequence breaks are obviously planned for as surprises, like early bombs and early supers. I don't think they planned for camera shenanigans and clipping through floors.
"If you've played Dread, and if you haven't, go play it because there's BIG spoilers ahead!" You forgot to add something. "Go play it, because there's BIG spoilers ahead and it's an excellent game."
It's "Brinstar Depths", the song played in Kraid's Lair in both the original NES game and the Zero Mission remake. The one I used is the Zero Mission version.
I know some people are like “how disappointing that power bombs don’t work on Kraid” meanwhile I’m over here like, “The developers thought to make sure no X-infected enemies appear until you release the X?!? Even in rooms that surely they thought were impossible to get into?!?”
This. In vanilla, you can't get cross bombs until after the X is released because Golzuna won't spawn otherwise. But releasing the X despawns Kraid. Might be possible to try with mods like randomizer, but I don't think the R button functions at all in there.
Hm, can you fight the final boss without releasing the X then? Seems like you could. Would the X randomly appear in the escape sequence then? Or maybe the game would just crash?
Yes and sort of. If you don't release them, there are no X in the escape sequence - except for Raven Beak X of course, but that's a hardcoded cutscene. The various creatures still appear in the escape, but they're the non-X versions and just disintegrate when you touch them. The current any% route doesn't fight the end boss at all but skips down to RBX and escapes without the metroid suit, by clipping through the hyper door. Before RB skip was found, it went through the normal endgame. Both routes skip plasma & Elun entirely, so they never get released. Quiet Robe is still infected as well, whether or not you released the X. There IS a meme subcategory called "Pacifist Escape" where you try to make it through the escape sequence without killing anything. That category is actually strongly affected by whether or not you release the X, to the point where it may not be possible to complete if you didn't. The reason is that some of the enemies in the escape take a few seconds to spawn in when they're doing the special "X flying in and taking shape" animation, but if there's no X, they're just immediately there when you come into the room and you can't bypass them by being fast enough.
i wonder how the other worlds look when frozen?? im sure the devs only programed the one area to freeze over. as i was super curious how the lava rooms look after the world freezes over. im sure the results are boring tho..
I've tried to fight galzuna before releasing the X and hes just a small crab bitch that after being killed, just gives u standard health or missiles and soft locks u into the room.
I'm pretty sure that the special sequence for being inside Kraid just ignores all inputs other than the Y button. So if you had regular bombs and tried to use R+Y for power bombs or cross bombs, I think it would just ignore the other buttons and release a normal bomb. That might make it look like it worked when it really didn't. I also find it interesting that while that bit is seemingly hardcoded, it does check if you HAVE normal bombs. Which is kind of weird since you're stuck if you don't but I thought it was worth showing.
@@KesslerCascade I'd say it's less hardcoded to check if you have bombs, and more that all these scenes are interactive scenes which you are expected to interact (and can't interact if you don't have the requisite item, naturally)

Have you tried using Cross Bombs?
not possible, but would be same story
This. In vanilla, you can't get cross bombs until after the X is released because Golzuna won't spawn otherwise. But releasing the X despawns Kraid.
Might be possible to try with mods like randomizer, but I don't think the R button functions at all in there.
Can confirm - this comes up in the randomizer, and he is not vulnerable to cross bombs.
In the original Metroid, the easiest way to beat him is to use 32 bombs.

Happy New Year! xD
Hm, can you fight the final boss without releasing the X then? Seems like you could. Would the X randomly appear in the escape sequence then? Or maybe the game would just crash?
Seems like the answer is "yes" and they actually do this in the current Any% route
Vcr ff! That's cool
i wonder how the other worlds look when frozen?? im sure the devs only programed the one area to freeze over. as i was super curious how the lava rooms look after the world freezes over. im sure the results are boring tho..
Keep an eye on my channel then (big hint about the video I'm currently working on 😉)
What controller do you use ?
I use the 8bitdo Bluetooth Ultimate controller.

Its possible beat metroid dread in reverse boss order?
You can get bombs early I just killed it with a regular bomb
I've tried to fight galzuna before releasing the X and hes just a small crab bitch that after being killed, just gives u standard health or missiles and soft locks u into the room.
all of that just to fail
минутку а как ты крутишься и бегаешь на месте ? какие конбинации ?
Why did you skip regular bombs? Couldn’t you just dude power bombs on Kraid either way?
Yes
Ugh what a let down
なるほど。継続ダメージで チャージが出来ないから、使えないのか!
Kraid in Dread is clone
Of all things, why clone Kraid lol
@@xxProjectJxx because Raven Beak does know how to clone things
Big and ugly? He just has big bones and a big personality
Short answer No.
❤️❤️
I rather kill that boss without blowing my brain in the process thanks
I'm disappointed. I want my money back.
Leave Craig alone 😦
