    It also could be that the square and triangular variants are made by Chozo subspecies. Perhaps there are subtle cultural differences that we just haven't seen yet. So the older writing are from Chozo that have now passed after time went on, but the triangular are from those who survived and adapted.

      I'd see it more the other way around; the Mawkin are notably very Revanchist and want to go back to the height of the Chozo Empire; maybe they're using an old archaic script because it's what Old Imperial Chozo used.

    • @Neoprototype
      @Neoprototype Рік тому +4

      It doesn't have to be a subspecies, it can just be different use case. For example Egyptian has both hieroglyphs and the Coptic script that was for every day use. A simpler cursive version of hieroglyphs. Latin inscriptions used Majuscules because the angular nature of them made them easier to chisel on to monuments, meanwhile a cursive script also exists, for faster handwriting.

      No, SOME languages are just degenerating into sounding nothing like it's written. Japanese and Spanish aren't.
      Properly preserved and revitalized languages tend to go back to the relatively new wellspring of WRITTEN LANGUAGE for reconfirmation. People learn to speak, learn to read, repeat their INTERNAL MONOLOGUE imagined in writing into pronouncing the syllables in a uniform way. Japanese Hiragana to correct the regional differences in dialect is one of these new pronunciation guides. The new, ratified and stable way to how words are SUPPOSED to be pronounced, that all take from the many older Alphabets meant to match the Proto-indo-european origins of people who ACTUALLY can talk to each other. It's democracy in action and genuine free market of ideas. That's why you CAN easily learn a handful of Katakana, that inform you that the context of pronunciation comes from a different source, of foreign loanwords and a number of oter reasons to use it. INSTEAD of learning, or more likely NOT learning, how your OWN languages loanwords are EVER spoken, because THEN you have to learn them in the thousands WITHOUT a written guide.
      In areas where words are routinely overblown and sensationalized into being unacceptable, uncool, or embarrassing to use, people WON't learn an internal monologue, like children raised by wolves who don't have a proper symbolic language, and they just approximate explaining their ideas by single-syllable words and emojis. IN THESE AREAS literacy rates crash, and nobody knwos or cares if the words they struggle to even REMEMBER the writing of, are anywhere close to reflective of THE LIVING LANGUAGE of the spoken word, and its tribal enclaves of speaking it jsut so slightly differently. Areas like English monolingual world, that finds this convenient for censorious purposes, and will beat you up FOR FREE if you utter "nigeru" in their presence and won't nigerundayo the EFF out of there.

I keep wondering why even bother doing all this work for something players won't even understand? Why should anyone care enough? Who would even try deciphering it for real? Greetings. I have been having a lot of fun using the cipher and have been doing so quite a lot recently and have been trying to decipher what I can of the language I can as I come across it in the game. On the Mawkin mural 5:31, the far-right text transcribes to: "Ura menke uramahar turuki nupha." I am able to translate some of what it says, "We honor our. . . " but I am stumped as to what the words "turuki" and "nupha" mean. I could draw from some of the context depicted on the mural to a few possible meanings. I am leaning toward "turuki" being the word for fallen (meaning that the verb for "to fall" would be turuk) but it's currently just a speculation. Nupha on the other hand, could mean a few different things in reference to the depiction and the mural can't really help me there and I am definitely no expert in languages, let alone ones we've barely scratched the surface of. I was wondering if anyone has been doing the same and has made more progress than I, or has some inferences that they came up with. Would like to bounce ideas and knowledge back and forth.

    • @sboinkthelegday3892
      @sboinkthelegday3892 2 роки тому +2

      I don't think so, that' not very typical to how languges develop. You can do this kind of stuff with driving opposite sides of the road in France or UK, but that's very short-term political enforcment of brand new technology etiquette. Thoha and Mawkin wouldn't be so perfectly separated that they won't adopt a mutual way of spelling, they would just both adopt both ways and have them merge together. EVEN MORE so if they are enemies exchanging demands of each other, although, stranger things ahve happened.
      In US politics, it wouldn't be unheard of it liberals and conservatives all put opposing meme furry suits on each letter of the ENGLISH alphabet, just to make sure NO government can function or read letters frm EITHER SIDE of the aisle, THAT kind of thing COULd happen. It already does, if you count the fact the same exact sentence is taken as sarcasm or hysteria, based on which network airs it as news. Like reading Modest Proposal, and both sides air news of it being a bad or good idea, but delivered straight.
      THEN you can flame up a brother war, not with distance, but EXACTLY because the mooks are close to each other but convinced into thinking they don't benefit from the same privileges, or support all the same hypocricies.

      @aureliodeprimus8018 2 роки тому +8

      @@sboinkthelegday3892 You know, i actually just had a thought that the more scientific inclined Thoha would prefer writing in squares, because they wouldn`t have to worry about the symmetric aspect and could easier take notes while observing their environement/experiments, basically their version of cursive writing.
      Meanwhile the warriors of the Mawkin would prefer the triangles and the symmentric aspect as both a display of grandeur and sophistication and a means of having a clear cut writing, since Chozo can be both read horizontally and vertically, the triangles also indicate how to read, which with the squares is harder to do.

    Funnily enough, this isn't the first Japanese game series to develop a whole new language just for the sake of it. Ar Tonelico hymmnos (and _related_ languages, yes, Hymmnos has _RELATED LANGUAGES_ like a real language) is probably the masterwork of such.

    Weirdly, Chozo is a 'easy' fantasy language because it's just English words and sentences written in cypher and pronounced with a different phonetic. Same as Watcher speak from Drakengard/Nier
    Then you have Tolkien Elfish and Vulcan that are way harder.
