    4:02 for real. A properly built guitar(like your ESP's) will have a neck that is multi-laminate or at the very least quarter sawn and very well kiln dried. And now they do roasted necks with titanium rods in them, shit is solid.

    I’ve been told I’m a good teacher/explainer. Great Job!!!! I just bought a new Kramer SM-1 Floyd Rose equipped (my first out of 30 years playing) guitar & was like “WTF”? as far as putting my gauge strings on & setting it up 1/2 step down. I’m confident I can do it right & then learn how to setup the intonation if I have the right tools. Keep up the great work/info!!!! 👍🏻

    @22:38 I always install the strings on my floyd guitars backwards with the ball end at the machine heads. I do that to avoid the sharp ends which I always seem to stab something with or catch on something. Not sure if there is a sonic difference, but it works for me.

    • @RobArnoldWorld
      @RobArnoldWorld  5 років тому

      Nothing wrong with that! No sonic difference in my opinion. Although I imagine its sometimes difficult to get the end of a heavy gauge string through the winding hole.🤔

    These videos are really useful. What makes it even more special is that very distinguished guitar players like Rob Arnold increasingly take the time on youtube (and elsewhere) to share their knowledge with the public. This is really awesome (particularly as Chimaira is one of my favorite bands)! I haven't seen all videos yet, but I am curious whether a special episode on this channel can perhaps deal with amp tips for metal. General suggestions on how to dial in particular tones would be most valuable. Of course sound is mostly "in the fingers", but proper amp knowledge is similarly indispensable. Particularly for beginning guitar players (like myself), there are so many variables to take into account to achieve certain sounds. I am very curious whether Rob Arnold is willing to share any personal views on "amp magic" to give beginners a substantial head start with at least one of the variables for a proper sound!

    Very interesting lots of things that I never knew about. With stretching the strings, making sure that the Floyd bridge is level, never to take off all the strings at once, always start from top to the bottom, which I did when I first started to play. I took off all the strings. One thing that I did when I was putting on new strings was to feeding the strings into the peg holes and make sure that the peg holes was facing the neck. Leave the strings about 3 "inches loose and put my finger on the first fret of the guitar and then tighten then up.

    B standard with .52 string on 25.5 scale? How's the intonation?

    • @RobArnoldWorld
      @RobArnoldWorld  4 роки тому

      You know man, I've found that no matter what the tuning, what the gauges, whatever the scale, etc... that intonation is always a problem. Not in a way where you can't get away with it jamming or live, but when recording and it's under a microscope, I still find myself retuning for every chord above the twelfth fret. Maybe it's the floyd?

    • @billk9799
      @billk9799 4 роки тому

      @@RobArnoldWorld I play and service my guitars (varying from 24'' scale up to 25.5'', 6-7 strings, floyds, stop-tails, string through - never had a baritone yet) and experiment with tunings from E standard to drop G for about 25 years and I found that you either need longer scales and/or thicker gauges, to intonate correctly. e.g I have watched a dunlop video where Jim Root said that he used a .56 on 25.5 scale for drop B and Andreas Kisser .56, 25.5 scale for A sharp. Plus you need some tension on the strings or they will be all over the place. That being said, the needs of every guitarist are different and I find myself sacrificing intonation for lighter gauges as years go by. I have put on my SG a 9-42 set and I can go to D standard with many issues (crappy intonation, bad string tension and overall flabby sound/feeling). Definitely not a recording setup!

      I found it better to tune my guitar to Open E and sometimes D. More so when I learned some of the songs from the punk album Rob.

    Rob, why don't you just keep the ball at the end of the string and push the end with no ball through first until the ball stops at the string winder then cut the string off at the right length and put that end into the Floyd so you don't have to do that crazy wrap around and knot tie thing? Makes it so much easier and quicker. I know it's probably preference but it's definitely easier and quicker. Thanks for the info though!!!!

    • @RobArnoldWorld
      @RobArnoldWorld  5 років тому

      One time i tried that method, and had a hard time getting the wound end near the ball through the tuning hole on the 6th string, and even the 5th. Another reason is that I've just been doing it this way for years, and.... Thanks for watching!🤘

    Got a new 7 string. Ibanez. Came in A. Dropped it to G. Got some floppy strings going. It's a fixed bridge. How would I solve this issue?

    • @RobArnoldWorld
      @RobArnoldWorld  4 роки тому +1

      The lower you tune, the more floppy the strings become. The solution is heavier gauge strings. Maybe try like a 70-13 pack or something like that.

    • @Acrimeofpassion
      @Acrimeofpassion 3 роки тому

      Can say when I was playing on baritone scale length ended up preferring .74 gauge for drop g. Feel like anything from .68 up will work fine for stability. But I like to dig in hard and not worry about pitch wobble as much. Basically used a set of 10s for the rest of it. I like a .58 B for context, hope it helps, drop g is very fun.

    That blows my mind that your using a 52 in B standard. I use a 56 for drop c....... My theory was, more metal above the magnet = chunkier sound. Now, it's just a feel thing. Of course, you are using a fender scale guitar. I use short Gibson scale guitars, so I need the fatter strings.

    I know all this shit, just need someone talking, while changing strings, takes forever and have 7 guitars. Had guys in bands, that didn´t know how to tune floyds they never locker it and justed tuned it at the headstock but also didn´t fix the bridge, one string down, five detuned, wow :D

  • @jacksonmarshallkramer5087

    First guy I've seen do it exactly right for a beginner with no Floyd experience. One at a time and tune to pitch. Other show you how to prop the Floyd with a 9 volt battery and clip all of the strings. HUGE MISTAKE.

    One thing I'd like to ask is why are you cutting the balls of the end of the strings ? I never did that myself.

    • @RobArnoldWorld
      @RobArnoldWorld  5 років тому +1

      If you put them on backwards (thru the tuning knob first), then you don't need to cut off the ball. But if you put them on like I demonstrated, then you need to remove the ball so that you can attach the string to the saddle.
