Whether sensible or not, as a beginner, I decided to go ahead and buy a Squier with a FR as a second guitar. I've seen a couple of your videos and can only thank you for the concise details, which has helped me from the get go to successfully setup the guitar. It really isn't a difficult as I thought thanks to you. This also includes levelling the tremo.
Man... these are the type of comments I appreciate the most! Super happy to hear that you've found these maintenance videos to be helpful, and I appreciate you tuning in!🎸
I'm a beginner, but this seems to make so much more sense than all those other string-change videos out there in which the instructors just quickly loosen all the strings and then cut all the strings down the middle with a wire-cutter. Glad I found you & just subscribed. Thanks so much. 👍

played guitar for 30+ years and had sworn of trems for the last 20. I recently acquired a Jem and thought I'd try to figure it out again. I found this video and just changed strings with minimal fuss! 10/10
Even better than the last tuning vid-prob the best instructional on string changing. My string winds have been tighter and cleaner than ever before and def helped stay in tune longer. Maintenance is crucial!
The best thing I've found to keep the tremolo level if you take all strings off at once is the back plate of the guitar that covers the tension springs🤘
@RobArnoldWorld I'd also say to still wedge a shim in the claw cavity between the trem bar and body and tighten the claw screws ever so slightly to ensure it stays in. Once you get the strings on and tuned up perfectly reverse the screws on the claw just slight enough to have the shim drop out on its own. Then tune one more time and voila❤️🤘👀
Always good to remind ourselves of some fine details for proper care of our weapons! 🤘 Someday I'll get myself a floyd equiped guitar and I know for sure those videos will be useful! Perhaps if they release the RA-600 again, bring 'em back!!! 😅
I just added the RA -600 to my “Iconic” guitar collection by innovative guitarists like yourself who have taken music to another level.. Great Job with your channel keep it up ! P.S. I’m not even a guitar player 😃
Rob, Good info on tuning! Can a slightly diagonal position bar tree affect the intonation? If it does then I know why my intonation is always out of whack.
That's an interesting question that has me thinking...🤔 Assuming you have a locking nut, is it better to intonate before or after you lock the nut? I guess I'd think to intonate after locking the nut, as I believe intonation should be the final step in the setup process. And if that's the case, then nothing past the locked nut would have any effect on your tuning or intonation. So going with that belief, I'd say the string tree, which is past the locked nut, would not have any effect on intonation. But honestly, I'm going to be wrapping my head around this one for awhile!
Hey Rob, thank you for this. I have spent all my guitar life playing fixed bridges. I took the plunge this year with a floating bridge-i followed your video to change my strings - took me a bit longer than you though :) - but she is now perfectly in tune, and it wasn't as tricky as I feared it would be. So thank you tons!! This video has been saved and will stay that way for future use!! 🤘🤘 also, any advice for changing all in one go so that I clean and condition the neck etc maybe a follow-up video.. ?
Hey man! Super glad to hear all of that! I know I have a video or two where I do remove all the strings at once, but I can't remember which off the top of my head. Fortunately though, I just released a new video TODAY, where I do that very thing! Check it out! ua-cam.com/video/7vGhD2yXcNE/v-deo.html

This will require a complete disassembly given the new block and claw. Any suggestions on the procedure for this major surgery Dr. Rob? You are an awesome asset for those of us that live and dream Floyd Rose equipped guitars!
Hey I appreciate that man! I do actually have a couple big block equipped guitars here at the house, but I had them installed at the factory before I actually received the guitars. So I don't have any videos where I speak specifically about assembling for disassembling Floyd bridges. But the closest thing I've got that still might prove useful to you, is one of my Perfect Float videos, where I talk a lot about the trem claw, and the springs, and about how all of that works. Damn Tho Sir Arnold.. to see you with your very own ESP signature model is amazing. You surely came a long way man.. hella awesome! cheers!
Hey cheers brother! Thanks for tuning in! If your fret board is dirty, and you don't mind pulling the strings every time, I say go for it! One other simple tip would be to just give your guitar a proper wipe down after each jam sesh!

Rib, Thank you for this video…Iv’e found it daunting to purchase a guitar with a Floyd mainly because of down tuning. I usually like to down tune to C or B standard. Do you have a video that shows how to adjust the springs on the back for down tuning?
nice vid rob!!! ya know how you said when a string is too sharp to go flat and then come back up? that exactly how i was taught to do it ...from a VHS tape that must have been at least 10 years old before i got it way back in 2003 or so. Thats why they call it tuning UP! I also leave all the string ends on till the very end, seems really inefficient to pick up a clippers 6 times when i can just do it once!!! haha
@@thegavincourtney And that's perfectly fine I believe, as I did notice that this particular bridge did sit pretty high. But the action feels great, so I leave it as is. On some of my guitars, the bridge sits quite a bit lower, and they feel great too. And so I kind of feel like each guitar is unique when it comes to bridge height and action. There really is no set standard!
Thanks dude! I don't know that the 81, or any pickup in particular, helps achieve feedback easier. I suppose the higher the output it is, the easier it is to achieve feedback. But often times that could be unwanted feedback as well. Best way to get more feedback, is to simply crank up your amp! 🤘
Just a side note to everyone that uses an Allen wrench. It's best to use a natural chrome wrench (exactly what Rob is using) vs a black painted Allen wrench. The black wrenches tend to strip after a couple of uses...
Has it ever happened to you from years of string changing that a string possibly slipped out of its saddle while tuning up due to the string block being worn or something?
Sure! Those blocks can crack easily, and anything is possible. But typically, if the string slips out while tuning, it probably just wasn't seated into the saddle properly, or it wasn't tightened down enough.
Perfecto! ☺ I watched it till the end and I dont play at all. I was reading the comments and I noticed a "happy thanksgiving" is that rigth? Im not sure if you celebrate same date we do. Thank you for another great video. Cheers Rob 💖🎸
@@RobArnoldWorld Thanks Rob! Here we celebrate on December 24th ☺. I also wanted to tell you I really aprecciate that you share the video of your basement cause theres not such thing here. We dont have basements in our houses. So besides watching it in movies its really awesome to see it so closely and with you on it! So.. Have a amazing happy thanksgiving!! 💖🎸🦃
does the springs have the same tension or does every spring has his own tension? and whats the difference between the v shape form and the straight form of the springs?
The springs themselves, with no tension load on them, are the same. But in the guitar, I imagine the treble side has slightly less tension on it. I think straight vs. V shape is a preference. I've noticed no real advantages or disadvantages in regards to how they're set up.
Once again many thanks for this video Rob. Do you only use DR HI beam strings or do you use other brands of strings ? I used GSR Boomers on my BC Rich and Ernie ball on my Hondo (Fender) when i was playing. As you know most guitars like to stay with the same brand. The cheaper the strings, the hard it can be to keep your guitar in tune. I bet that when you posted this video. You said to yourself, I wonder if Darren will have something to say and of course I have done hehe. Anyways cheers for this video and take care of yourself and have a nice week. PS will there be another EYL this coming week ? One more thing. Hows the new Merchandise going ?
Haha! I did think of you Darren, and how you subtly scolded me for releasing my last video on Monday instead of Sunday! 🤣 I've been using DR High Beams exclusively since 2017. Jim recommended them to me for our reunion show, and I've ended up loving them! I don't think there will be a new EYL this week, but hopefully sometime soon. Episode 20 needs to be a special one, but have some other ideas in mind that I'd like to knock out first. The new merchandise is moving along slowly but surely! I appreciate you spreading the word! Cheers brother!🤘
@@RobArnoldWorld Sorry for miss reading Rob. I forgot to click on read more. I'm really pleased that the new merchandise is going well for you. And your most welcome. I hope some more people will come and buy. I'll keep an eye on my group on FB and I'll let you know. Yes episode 20 does need to be special. May I ask you a question for this. Here it goes. Do you still buy CDS or do you buy your music on Itunes, Apple music or Spotify ? If you have bought any CDS lately what did you get ?
@@RobArnoldWorld Thank you Rob Not to sure what movies you like. could you also answer that for me please. At the moment in time I'm watching Kill Bill Vol 1
I usually do same as u do. But about a month ago i removed all strings then replaced them. Now the bridge raises up on the back and i cant fix it. Tried everything i can think of.
Ok gonna bother u again. So spoke a little to soon. So i did everything in vid. Thought al was good but didnt have it completely in tune. Cgcfad so when i had it tuned completely the bridge is floating some again not as severe as before. Ive tightened the springs as much as i can and it still not right. Any ideas? I do use heavy gauge strings usually 12 16 20 34 46 60. Should i try smaller gauge? Sorry for questions. In 20 years never had this issue and dont have issue with other 2 guitars. So im kinda lost
@@ekro8540 I would suggest adding another spring to the back! This would allow you to loosen those screws appropriately, because now the heavy lifting will be spread out amongst 4 springs instead of 3. (assuming you had 3 in there). Higher gauge strings like you're using are totally fine, but because they're a thicker gauge, they offer more resistance, and it sounds like your spring configuration can't handle the load. So try 4 springs, straight up and down, spaced evenly apart. (as opposed to the V shape I talk about in the video)
I just try and get them up close to the strings, but in a way where they don't interfere with the strings in any way. And I'll often raise my treble side slightly higher in an effort to help my leads cut through the mix!
What are you doing? Don't cut off the ball end. Put the ball end through the tuner. Then you don't need so many winds at the tuning pegs. Also block the bridge so it doesn't affect the other strings.
@@RobArnoldWorld I kinda thought so cause I'm a gigging guitarist and if I get a guitar with a Floyd Rose that's not an original I always swap it out for an original because none of them hold tuning like the original Floyd Rose. Anyway great video keep it up Rob!
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that, but if you're interested, I have MANY string changing videos where I take off all the strings before re-stringing. I always take them all off when a guitar needs a deep cleaning. But for frequent changes, one string at a time gets you back in tune the fastest.

Awesome Morrigan! I love that!🤘
Our thanksgiving is November 26th🦃
@@RobArnoldWorld Thanks Rob! Here we celebrate on December 24th ☺. I also wanted to tell you I really aprecciate that you share the video of your basement cause theres not such thing here. We dont have basements in our houses. So besides watching it in movies its really awesome to see it so closely and with you on it! So.. Have a amazing happy thanksgiving!! 💖🎸🦃
Thanks
Great job out there
What guitar workstation are you using? would love to have something like this set-up in my studio.
It's called a Tech Box, and you can get one from Ultracase.com. They're pricey, but they rule!
@@RobArnoldWorld Thank you!!
Great job! But how you gonna clean the fretboard?or I missed something?
As I said in the video, I take all the strings off and clean the fret board about once a year or so!
i just snagged this ra 600! Dude its my 2008 mh 1000 (top tier), but to your specs and I fucking love it! And i knew i would
Awesome brother! Welcome to the family!👊😎🎸
does the springs have the same tension or does every spring has his own tension? and whats the difference between the v shape form and the straight form of the springs?
The springs themselves, with no tension load on them, are the same. But in the guitar, I imagine the treble side has slightly less tension on it.
I think straight vs. V shape is a preference. I've noticed no real advantages or disadvantages in regards to how they're set up.
@@RobArnoldWorld Thx man, you´re the best 🤘

I've been using DR High Beams exclusively since 2017.
Uhh.. No I didn't! You must not have read my entire reply!
Got it bro!
@@RobArnoldWorld Thank you Rob
Not to sure what movies you like. could you also answer that for me please. At the moment in time I'm watching Kill Bill Vol 1
Some kinda of nice pron :) Tnx! Все еще ждем в России!
I know you're waiting! Hopefully it will happen one day!🤘🤘
you have a note scribbled for 8-string tuning. have you shared that guitar on youtube yet?
Haha good eye! That was for Mark's 8 string that he used on Jade from our reunion show back in 17'.
OMG. Yesterday I replaced my strings and I hate doing that... if I had seen this video before it must been easier for me with this technic
There's always next time! I recommend you still check out the vid so that you're ready at a moments notice! 🤘
I usually do same as u do. But about a month ago i removed all strings then replaced them. Now the bridge raises up on the back and i cant fix it. Tried everything i can think of.
Oh yeah? I got you.... 👉 ua-cam.com/video/OpW3exj5HFo/v-deo.html
Thanks man. Im gonna go do it now.
It worked. But u right its time consuming. Back and forth.
Can I buy the string set anywhere?
I'd assume! Just google them!
what is your EMG pup height ?
I just try and get them up close to the strings, but in a way where they don't interfere with the strings in any way. And I'll often raise my treble side slightly higher in an effort to help my leads cut through the mix!
What are you doing? Don't cut off the ball end. Put the ball end through the tuner. Then you don't need so many winds at the tuning pegs. Also block the bridge so it doesn't affect the other strings.
To each their own!🎸
Best String gauge for floyd rose.?
I prefer 11-52!
Is that an original Floyd Rose or a 1000 series?
OG!
@@RobArnoldWorld I kinda thought so cause I'm a gigging guitarist and if I get a guitar with a Floyd Rose that's not an original I always swap it out for an original because none of them hold tuning like the original Floyd Rose. Anyway great video keep it up Rob!
Right on bro! Hopefully you can get gigging again soon!🤘
thanks for sharing, you are very careful
Where are your 8 strings songs? I gotta hear them!
No 8 stringers. That was for Mark's 8 string that he used on Jade from our reunion show back in 17'.
@@RobArnoldWorld I think you would be able to write some kick ass riffs with one.
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘👆
HAHA kirk would be proud.lol
I hope so!!🤘

One big flaw with this vid....you didn't shred our ears off mannnn! Lol. You must chug to prove this string change was not fake news bro. 🎸😝🎸😝😝
You obviously didn't watch until the end!😉
@@RobArnoldWorld i see the strum and riffage. Not sure how i missed it first time. I may have hit the skip on my phone lol. Thanks
Haha- I know I didn't "shred your ears off", but there was a little chugging in there! Cheers bro🎸
like everyone else 1 string at a time
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that, but if you're interested, I have MANY string changing videos where I take off all the strings before re-stringing. I always take them all off when a guitar needs a deep cleaning. But for frequent changes, one string at a time gets you back in tune the fastest.
